For the Fanfic ask game, #3, #5 and #9 please for A Troubling Case because I have new chapter to read and I'm looking forward to it!
Frieeeeeeeend, youâre too kiiiiiiind. 𼚠Thanks so much for the asks, and for your excitement!
From the Fanfic Asks Game:
3. What was the inspiration behind this fic?
So this was actually inspired by @carvalh09s, who DMed me and we started talking about what this pairing might look like in a more modern context. I couldnât get the idea out of my head once they brought it up. They were kind enough to give me their permission to move ahead with my version of what that might look like, and here we are!
5. Share a snippet of your favorite dialogue.
From the earlier chapters, this is one of my favorites:
âSo you can pick locks,â [Neve] observed under her breath into her comm as she watched [Rook] impatiently. âGood to know. Considering.â
âHey,â came his lightly crackling, whispered, response. âI respect the tenantsâ privacy. Besides, I donât need to break into your apartment.â
Neve cocked an eyebrow at that, even though he couldnât see her. âYouâre not counting on me letting you in.â
His warm, quiet laughter, fed directly into her ear, made her skin tingle pleasantly. âIâm the maintenance guy, remember? Who do you think has the emergency keys?â
âNot worrying at all.â
âStop, before Iâm forced to kill both of you,â Tarquinâs voice complained, and Neve felt her face flush. It was fortunate no one could see her.
And from the latest chapter:
Rana was looking between Rook and Neve with obvious confusion.
âWhat favor?â She asked.
âOh, I got into a fight with a raccoon the other day â long story â while I was working in Dock Town,â Rook said easily. His eyes glinted with humor and his smile held a hint of mischief. âNeve was nice enough to let me clean up before I took the streetcar home. And she gave me a cup of coffee too! Which is why I bought some for her today.â
He shook his head sadly. âNo one should boil coffee unless theyâre desperate.â
Even Rana couldnât quite maintain her usual seriousness at that, and she snorted while Neve narrowed her eyes on him.
âI donât remember you complaining at the time,â she pointed out.
âOf course not. I was raised with manners.â Rook winked and Neve rolled her eyes.
9. Was any particular scene extra fun to write?
This fic is one where I enjoy writing nearly all of it (editing it, howeverâŚ). I did have an unfair amount of fun writing the gala scene in Chapter One, though. Rook is such an unrepentant smartass there, and it creates such an interesting first impression for Neve, that I was bouncing around a little as I drafted it. That said, I have others coming in future chapters that bring me just as much glee, so this answer is subject to change.
Thanks so much for the asks! I had so much fun with them!!
