Replaying deltarune to get a good save file for chapter 5 and every time I play this game I remember that 90% of things considered canon about spamton arent even canon. For all we know he was born looking like that
I donĀ“t know if more people think this but I donĀ“t think tenna was going to sell toriel to the knight.
I think this cos as reveal on the sword route the deal he made was with kris and the knight or just kris (depending on how you interpret it).
And I really really doubt that kris would be ok with sacrificing their mother as part of their plan with the person on the phone, plus all the preparation they did so undyne would come to the house, to me it seem like undyne was always the objective and the reason toriel was lock up was so she wasnĀ“t taken instead.
Also, if IĀ“m not wrong he nevers says he was goint to give her away, just keeping her locked up.
Also also, if the reason he did all that is to go back to how things were before, aka the familly being back together, why would he willingly sacrifice toriel? that kinda defeats the plan.
I think the plan was to keep the fun gang entretain and toriel lock up in a safe area while the knight came and kidnaped undyne without anyone noticing and them finish the adventure.

He's not the best person, but he's definitely not truly evil because he's suffered so much, and it's understandable that he wanted to commit homicide due to so much abandonment and loneliness.

Where I live what spamton did in snowgrave is called "coperaciĆ³n necesaria" (necessary cooperation) and is when someone contributes something to a crime fully knowing what they are doing and without that, the crime couldn't have taken place.
In court he would have recieve the same penalty as the player, cos legally he would be consider a perpretator of the crime.
(He also kinda acts as an "Inductor" aka the one that gives the idea, also legally consider with the same responasability as the perpetrator.)
I seen some people claiming that spamton is often depicted as an abuser to tenna in fanworks and other people claim the opposite, that tenna is often depicted as an abuser to spamton in fanworks.
So to saciate my curiosity, me and a friend decided to do 3 little experiments on ao3 to see with one of those claims was true.
also, we discover that this fandom has a problem with tagging fics correctly, which is bad, pls even if you are not interest in the post remember to tag fic correctly.
also, also, this is just an experiment to see fandom trends, we arenĀ“t trying to say that one of them was canonically an abuser, this is just see the tendency on fanon works. from which a majority are just fluff or are sex (aka none of them depict them as abusive)
the experiments are down bellow (tw for mentions of rape)
All the experiment consist on searching on the ao3 spamtenna tag with different tags and filters and based on the fics tags, description, and a quick check of the fic in case of doubt, we determined if one of the characters was being abusive towards the other while the other was innocent, if both were abusive or they abused a third character the fic woulnĀ“t be count.
the first test was just looking at the spamtenna tag without any other tag and since there are more than 3000 works we decided to do from jun to april or the first 16 pages on ao3.
The results from this were 5 works of tenna abusing spamton and 1 work of spamton abusing tenna.
The second text was adding the "abuse" tag with filter it to 88 works of those 15 was tenna abusing spamton and 8 was spamton abusing tenna.
The last one was the most extreme and we put the rape/noncon tag with a total of 64 works of which 29 was tenna abusing spamton and 11 was spamton abusing tenna.
Things we noticed:
There is a tagging problem, like, a big one, were fics that should be tagged as rape are not and have descriptions were it makes you belive the content inside is consented, 2 of the 5 fics on the first experiment of tenna abusing spamton, contained noncon, and both the description and tags tried to hide it or make it seem as if it was consensual, experiment aside, this is wrong, for the love of god tag things correctly.
Fics of spamton abusing tenna have the biggest density closer to ch3 release and around octuber of 2025 the tendency changes and the mayority goes to tenna abusing spamton.
Tenna being the abuser in fics tend to be more violent that spamtonĀ“s ones, both outside the noncon category (with tags like fatal vore and mind break) and in the noncon category (with tags like dismemberment and starvation) of all the works of spamton being abusive only one was this level of violent while it seem to be a constant in tennaĀ“s ones.
This are our findings from this little experiment, please if you want to add something feel free to do so, also have in consideration that this is just ao3 so it may not reflect all fandom, if you take anything from this post is to please tag things correctly and donĀ“t try to decive people
Something that surprised me about this experiment is that the change of spamton being seen as the abuser of the relationship to tenna being seen as the abuser happen before the winter newsletter (it happen around october).
kinda weird cos it was when the newsletter came that I saw the biggest change on how people talked about them, but to be honest most people said the "I always new that spamton was innocent and tenna had to be the perpetrator" which is kinda indicative that they thought that pre-newsletter, they just didnĀ“t have "evidence" (in "" cos there is not evidence of tenna being abusive in the newsletter)

I think people would be happier if they thought of tenna as a cartoon character instead of some kind of evil big dom daddy who's emotionally abusive and has around zero positive traits. tenna will do a little dance while he walks and whistle his theme song. he will smell a pie being baked nearby and float towards it with a big smile. he will jump and clap his toes when he's happy and say wahoo. he loves his family and his game boards not harming people
