Blog 15. Snow riding and how to handle it.
Britain is getting ready for the snow to hit, but if you commute or ride daily this can be a big issue. So here is how you should handle the weather...
You should pack a bag with things that could b come of use, I always have my bag with me even going to shops etc...
You should carry a puncture repair kit or spare tube, nobody wants to walk distance in cold weather and definitely not snow. And if you do get a flat your going to want to keep your hands arm during the repair. Zippo hand armrest do an amazing job, a full tank of gas can last 48 hours, that's a long time, the heat given off them is amazing and I would definitely recommend just having one for general use.
A lighter is always a good thing to carry, I have a zippo that I treasure, wind proof and the wick stays dry if it rains, waterproof matches are handy or even a clipper lighter.
Lights, always have spare lights if you ride in the night or early mornings without lights can cause a big risk, I have a back light and a hi-vis bag, front lights are recommended.
Spare socks are a must for work and wrap them in a plastic bag to keep them dry.
The best tip for snow riding is to stay out of tracks, make fresh ones, by using tracks that are already made you put your self in danger of falling off, your tyre will just slide in the middle and keep you in them, make your own and this will help to stop you also.
Try not to ride to close to cars in front, if they brake suddenly you will struggle to stop.
Also give pedestrians plenty of room, it's slippery for them too and if they fall you will both get hurt.
