Least said soonest mended
It was the start of a lovely summers day ,the heat of the smiling sun was beginning to absorb the morning dew. The Red Admirals were fluttering and the bumbles bees humming away were just starting their 10 hour shift on the crimson flowers of Taffys runner beans.
Taffy with his dibber in his hand was gently prising out his prize iceberg lettuce to have with his radish,tomatoes and new potatoes for his and Gladys salad lunch. Taffy was an accomplished gardener and soon was in a world of his own with only Ron the resident Robin for company. Suddenly Taffy heard a bloodcurdling scream that shattered his idilyc daydreaming. Taffy sprinted ( actually shuffled) over to where the noise emitted from.
It was his wife Gladys by the washing line on further inspection Taffy realised her bloomers had fallen to her feet. ( The ones that needed drying not the ones she was wearing ,I hasten to add) "Whatever can be the matter Gladys? " enquired Taffy. "Its the washing line Taffy ,I have come to the conclusion it has shrunk" "No ,no Gladys thats impossible it was 10ft long when I put it up and its 10ft now" "You can say what you like Taffy but I have conclusive proof it has definitely shrunk " Taffy look bewildered but let Gladys carry on.
Gladys with a triumphant look said "50yrs ago when we got married I could put 5 of my bloomers on the line now I can only fit 3 on ," Taffy looked at Gladys who he loved with all his heart ,both now in their eighties and gently replied " of course Gladys silly me I will extend it by 5 foot." Gladys happily went to prepare the salad and Taffy went back to his vegetable patch.Ronnie the Robin had his breakfast the sun was now beating down.
Taffy with a wry smile and a gentle chuckle shook his head as he could also cast his mind back to his wedding day of 50 years ago He remembered well asking his mum for advice as his parents were blessed with a happy marriage.
Her wisdom which has kept Taffy and Gladys in good stead through good and not so good times also came in useful today , It was simply "Least said ,soonest mended"
