Besides being gay, you must be two of the following: attractive, ethnic, flamboyant, funny, well-educated, and/or a victim of prejudice. The trick is to break stereotypes while simultaneously adhering to the minimum threshold of diversity so that CBS doesn't lose viewers in the Bible belt of the USA. More feminine gays are favored because they help perpetuate the stereotype of gay men as weak to help validate the sexuality of homophobes that may watch the show.

Tip #1: Be white. Defer from mentioning any trace of your ethnic roots or utilizing any urban lexicon. If confronted, simply assure the casting producer that years of self hatred have absolved any personal connections with your heritage and therefore, you are basically a born again white.
