uther making merlin arthur's servant as a reward for his heroism implies that whoever was arthur's servant prior was just like randomly fired so merlin could take his job and i wish we explored that as a fandom. who was he? does he still work in the castle as a regular servant now? does merlin know who he is? do they like each other? does he hate merlin for taking his job? or did he hate being arthur's manservant and he's actually relieved to just be working in the castle now?

kinda obsessed w the idea that he becomes friends with merlin and merlin doesn't know he used to be arthur's manservant until arthur finds out they're friends and tells him, and then he talks to him about it and he's like yeah idk i didn't want to get involved in whatever you guys have going on. and merlin's like wdym. and he's like well you know you don't exactly have a normal dynamic right like when i was his servant it was super different. and merlin's like oh. and then he talks to arthur and they make out about it

There's a fic where the previous servant is so grateful that he actually hates Arthur (it's pretty funny) and actually helps Merlin whenever he can because he knows how awful Arthur is a master (and doesn't believe Merlin when he starts to get defensive about him).
