Yeah so I'm done with the first draft of chapter 2, sitting at a wordcount of 40K words. I didn't write the ending yet though, since I just lose all my ability to think when I spend too much time writing a chapter. So it may go up a 5-10K words or more in the second draft.

I will take certain liberties to somewhat overhaul Westeros compared to its original counterpart. Martin is a great writer and a good worldbuilder, don't get me wrong. But while he's good with it, he kinda sucks when it comes to the nitty-gritty of worldbuilding. I will be addressing to certain changes at the moment with a reblog. I can't for the love of god figure out the proper formatting on a post.

Aerys is not outright sadistic and is actually quite nice to his wife. In this version, he's just extremely paranoid, making catastrophic mistakes along the way. This change is mainly because of that certain someone.
The Rebellion will still happen, and Rhea (f!Robert) will take quite a part in it, especially on the field (as opposed to some of the other f!Robert fanfics) and she will be quite fond of sex, drinking and fighting and war (at least in the beginning). She's also bisexual
There will be a lot more cities, as most of the towns will be cities here, as well as having a few new ones. Like, you're telling me that insanely rich and populous regions like the Reach and the Westerlands, as well as a potential trading zone like Riverlands (the only way to go between Westerlands, the North and the Vale) only get one to zero cities while KL has 500.000 people that it cannot even sustain for decades?
King's Landing also won't have 500.000 people, especially because of the change above. I'm thinking of a much more reasonable number, somewhere between 40.000 to 50.000 people.
Armies in Westeros will also be slightly more different than their canon part. As much as I love Meribald's broken men speech, I never got my mind around the fact that Westerosi lords are quite willing to send their soldiers with literal bullshit and have them die pointlessly. As opposed to being sent with sharpened hoes and kitchen knives, the mandatory equipment for a Westerosi soldier is a combination of a spear and a round shield as well as an iron helm and gambeson, cheap equipment that still can make quite the difference.
Firearms. Now, this is the most radical change, and I'm not fully certain about this, but I have a reason for their existence. Originating from Dorne or Essos for worldbuilding reasons, the first usage of gunpowder was designed against the dragons of House Targaryen, first used during Aegon's Invasion to fell Meraxes down, though destroying the first cannon along the way. The existence of gunpowder, cannons and hand cannons had their affect on architecture, as walls were redesigned to be resistant against cannons.
House Targaryen won't be able to control the entirety of the Seven Kingdoms. Especially since the Dance and the dragons gone extinct, the further regions (the North, Dorne and the Iron Islands) have grown more and more disobedient, and it has been a lot harder to monitor and control them, as opposed to other regions that Targaryens can easily access to. During the story, all of these three regions are extremely unruly and even outright defiant.
During the Dance (if I implement firearms) cannons are directly used to counter the Targaryen dragons, as it doesn't make sense in the actual Dance that all these armies walk around while there are literal nukes that nobody can counter. With the existence of cannons, other factions also had a power in the Dance.

All You need to pirate a book are internet access and a phone. Yes, there are people for whom this is easy, while accessing a library isn't. Stop bringing up Libby and Hoopla, those are not global services. Not every library will order your silly print-on-demand hobby project either.
To the Americans in the audience. Importing foreign-language books can be prohibitively expensive. Games on Steam have regional pricing, eBooks usually don't. Millions of people outside the USA will just pirate because the market refuses to serve them.
Stop recommending AO3 for stories, it makes you look stupid. When people pirate, they pirate specific books.
I want small authors to stop pretending that their books don't sell because of mean pirates. You are producing in an oversaturated industry that is not favorable to you. Publisher conglomerates and big retailers like Amazon hold the power and shape the playing field. I know it is easier to yell about pirates. You guys should be begging for piracy. If tomorrow all pirated instances of your work disappeared from online, you will not make any more money. I promise you this.
A pirate and a person who will purchase your book are not different people, I'm sorry to say. There is no neat separation between pirate and consumer.
The reality is that most people who pirate do also buy books and go to the library. They download books from Project Gutenberg. These are not mutually exclusive activities.
People also pirate for a 'free sample.' Time and money are limited, and people want to know what they are buying. You can blame this on how oversaturated the market is. If I spent 15 euros on slop I would be mad.
You honestly love to see it when people tremble in terror and stare at you with their eyes wide open when you mention piracy, like you are speaking the horrifying language of the Devil. Just such a funny thing to witness.
Like, not only piracy doesn't really harm you (like really, because people that pirate often don't have the means/desire to pay for your game so it comes to the point of fighting the air. I know, what a shocker) but it also does more good than simply not allowing it, as word of mouth is just as impactful as actual marketing, if not even more.
Then there's some people that are like "Piracy is copyright infringement! Piracy is stealing! Piracy is your work getting used to feed AI!" and like, what?
Piracy is not copyright infringement or stealing, because it is not stealing. Your work isn't stolen when someone pirates it, they simply get a new copy of it. You won't lose your right to own your work if people pirate it.
And it's especially not about feeding it to the AI, because A) that's not even the purpose of piracy in the first place, and 2) you can already do that with something you paid to own a copy of it????? Paying for it doesn't magically protect your work from getting fed to the AI. Nor any court will be like "They fed their AI using your game, but you're fine with piracy so they're not guilty" lmfao (And come the fuck on, can you even win a lawsuit against an AI corporation feeding your work to their machine unless you're insanely influential? Let's not be delusional about it please)
And you know what? If you don't have the money to afford something, whether it's a game or a book or a movie or whatever, just pirate it. I know I wouldn't be here writing stuff if I wasn't able to pirate many of the stuff that inspired me in the first place. You can pay back to the original creator later on by purchasing what you pirated or spreading it around by talking about it to the others.
