currently watching (or mostly what i started and havent finished): daomubiji zanghaihua, 九条の大罪、shin irang law office, lockwood and co, miu 404, justice in the dark, nanbu dangan, psych hunter, one cent theif, maybe some i forgot. finished 容疑者xの献身、reading rivers of london stone and sky

i didbt used to be into romance but tumblr mentally conditioned me into being a fudanshi

he got his lawyer qualification in the usa, which we actually learn from naruhodo in the hospital just after garyu first appears. he doesnt talk about it much (i cant remember if he actually mentions it himself at all), and he uses some common english words and rarer english loadwords in japanese, but he isnt randomly using english all the time. this is the only time it uses actual text in english

though japanese already has a lot of loanwords from english that are normal and everyone uses, and using more is often seen as like trendy. usually its done like this

he just says 'its nonsense' using the english word nonsense, which you dont hear often in japanese, but its actually a word in the japanese dictionary. and he doesnt even do this that much, most of his lines are standard

and he never uses english honourifics, only japanese. and he doesnt make america his personality or anything, its more like a general american pop culture influenced rockstar sort of thing. i think the localisation changed all that and made specifically 'germany' his personality, where here the country he atudied in doesnt appear much at all, its more the rockstar thing

(to be honest im not too sure about the line where mitsurugi says 'no need' if i translated the nuance well or not. the localisation makes him sound more regretful, and even when i put it in google translate/deepL it did, like 'well, i dont need it, but...'. but the way i read it hes just not interested. im not a native speaker and i dunno whos right, so if anyone else wants to weigh in?) (also mitsurugi was embarrassed from misunderstanding, but the last line could also be about konomichi (the flight attendant) being politer to the other passenger, though i didnt include those lines)

so it seems fairly similar to the translation, but the first scene could be interpreted differently, i dont know

gyakusai accurrately representing the vending machines that say you can pay with card but theres no card reader so you actually cant
