need a hat that says I WONT SPEAK UNLESS SPOKEN TO AND ITS NOT BECAUSE IM DISINTERESTED AND DONT LIKE YOU I JUST DONT UNDERSTAND SOCIAL INTERACTION AS WELL AS MOST PEOPLE AND ASSUME BY DEFAULT MY PRESENCE IS UNWELCOME AS A PRECAUTIONARY MEASURE SO I KEEP TO MYSELF BUT I DONT MIND IF YOU INITIATE so i can wear it to work
Marlene's mother gave her a red ribbon on her first day of Hogwarts. It was meant to make her look tidy and presentable, which of course didn't work, and by the end of the sorting ceremony it was already tangled in the curls of her half-undone plait. But she treasured it anyway, both as a reminder of home and of how excited she had been to be given it, the pride on her mother's face. She'd worn it every day of first year.
As she grew older, the ribbon began to feel more like a reminder of her mother's expectations of her, her constant chastising that Marlene wasn't ladylike enough, that she ought to dress more femininely. Eventually she stopped wearing it entirely.
By sixth year Marlene had already chopped off her long blonde hair to a spiky chin-length, and everyone knew she wouldn't be caught dead in a skirt. So when she found the ribbon again, the weight it carried disappeared, replaced with memories of her wide-eyed, eleven-year-old self. She started to find creative ways to wear it again - as a headband, a choker, a makeshift belt for her muggle jeans. She would even plait it into Lily's hair for her, or let Mary use it to tie her endless curls up.
On her and Dorcas' second date, she had nervously presented the slightly frayed old thing to her girlfriend, along with a honeyduke's chocolate bar incase it all went balls-up and she hated it. "I don't have much use for it anymore," Marlene quickly explained (turned out ribbons did not make for great belts), "And you look good in anything." Dorcas had smiled that gorgeous, heart-stopping smile of hers and wrapped her great long arms around Marlene's torso. "Thank you." She'd whispered in Marlene's ear, making her knees go weak. "Wait, this isn't just a ploy to get me wearing Gryffindor colours, is it?" Maybe it was just nerves, but they'd both laughed for far too long at that.
After Marlene's death, Dorcas never took the ribbon off. It held her practical plait in place for two weeks, keeping her hair out of her face as she'd taken down more deatheaters than the entire order had in two years of war. The masks helped. No real faces to see humanity in, just bodies that dropped limply under her wand. She dreamed about seeing Marlene's grin, her warm brown eyes, her twin dimples reflected back at her in their faces.
When Lily Evans was sent to identify Dorcas Meadowes' body, she hadn't even needed to see her face. That blood-soaked, dirty old ribbon had been enough to break something in her that she managed to keep intact since Marlene's death. She'd cried that night, for herself, for her grief, for her vulnerable baby boy that she couldn't protect. But mainly she cried for the girl with the gap-toothed smile that had sat next to her on the first train ride to Hogwarts, for the sharp-witted girl that had always readily debated her in potions, for their love and the life together they'd lost.
Modern day Remus Lupin would not own a mobile phone. There I said it.
So I lowkey lied

who would i be without lily evans, mary macdonald, and marlene mckinnon??
this pride month i want everyone to consider the benefits of abolishing the sex binary
furthermore, abolish the government systems that require people to categorize themselves into gendered categories. why do y'all need to know that.
no more assigning babies a legal sex at birth. i feel like this should go without saying, but no more surgeries on intersex infants. no more surgeries on intersex children. embrace intersex traits as natural. because they are.
no more gendered dress codes. no more gender markers on passports, driver's licenses, ids. i'm not talking about "adding x" or "adding a third category" i'm talking about no more categories, period. why does the government need to know what my genital situation is? why does the government feel the need to assign me a sex on the basis of genitals? why does the cop who pulled me over need to see an m, or an f, or an x?
no more "gender is a social construct, sex is the thing that's binary." sex is not binary. abolish the idea that it is. normalize conversations about intersex traits. being intersex is natural. the sex binary is a thing imposed by the state.
no more gendered sports. if you really care about equity, sort people into categories based on skill level and athleticism, not gender or sex. the concept that there are only two sexes and that one is inherently weaker than the other is pseudoscience. the male/female hunter/gatherer dichotomy is not based in fact, and is a product of modern sexist cultural biases. one gender is not inherently subservient to the other. people are not inherently different on the basis of sex or gender. it is just more complicated than that.
the concept of multiple genders and sexes beyond the man/woman male/female dichotomy has existed as long as humans have existed. the sex binary only serves to benefit the patriarchy. the gender binary only serves to benefit the patriarchy. continuing to impose it just controls (and harms) the people it forcibly categorizes.
i'm not asking for the end of gender, i'm calling for an acknowledgement of gender and sex that understands the infinite diversity of the human species. i'm suggesting an end to binary systems that only benefit the ruling class. just think about it. okay?
This. Something is just not right about the way we approach gender and it needs to stop.
remember that pride is still a protest
to remus, heterosexuality is another expectation - he's a werewolf, he can't be different in any other way
to sirius, heterosexuality is another pureblood tradition that doesn't make sense and one he's just going to ignore anyways

Sometimes I wonder what Mary wouldβve done if the war hadnβt happened. I like to think sheβd have gone into journalism like Rita for a while before getting fed up and starting her own fashion brand. Sheβd incorporate muggle styles into wizarding fashion and become this big name. And you KNOW sheβs getting Sirius to model her works.

Yet another new study debunked the basis for the anti-trans sports bans. It was never about sports but for creating legal avenues for exclusion and abjection. This is one of the largest analyses ever conducted, involving 52 studies and 6,485 trans people. Read the study here.
post so nice had to reblog it twice and force it down everyone's throats
At minimum about 4.5 thousand people liked this without reblogging it.
We gotta fix that.

Me, opening spell check on my document: The lovely lovely computer is going to help me with my writing now :)
Me, looking at the first (correct) suggestion: Hater. Anti-visionary. Why must I be constricted to the traditional norms of what is and isn't 'correct' spelling. Maybe I meant to spell it that way. Maybe my writing is more abstract and contemporary than your computer brain can grasp.
Why of course I made a Conan Gray edit to Wolfstar
