Im not an idiot. I know that banning literal weapons of war isnt gonna stop homicide. Banning all guns isn't gonna stop homicide. Wrapping everyone in bubble wrap isnt gonna stop homicide. Im not trying to stop all homicide ever. But a murderer with a weapon that fires 12 bullets a minute rather than 12,000 is going to do a lot less damage.

“I’m a gun owner. I have two pistols, a rifle, a shotgun…and a (now-expired) concealed carry permit. I’ve been shooting since I was a kid. I also support every single gun control measure out there. Why? Well, because of a number of logical reasons:

3. I’ve seen people handle guns when they are drunk, tired, hungover, or angry. I would never think of doing these things. It is irresponsible, and again, potentially deadly.

4. A friend of my college boyfriend pointed a loaded gun in my face because he wanted to show me how cool his new toy was. I dropped to the ground. He forgot it was loaded. He’s a high-ranking officer in the U.S. Navy.

5. The class you take to get a concealed carry permit in North Carolina is easy to pass. You sit through a two-day class, take a simple written test, get a background check and fingerprints through the sheriff’s office, and basically just have to prove that you can hit the broad side of a barn. That’s it.

6. The “hero mentality” is misguided and dangerous. Unless you have combat training, the “good guy/gal with a gun” is more likely to kill another civilian or get mistaken by cops as the shooter. I’m a decent shot with a pistol. I’m a great shot with my rifle. But in a life or death situation, where people are literally being murdered in front of me, it’s completely unrealistic to think that, even with all my training, I could do anything but add to the chaos.

7. The NRA is a terrorist organization. Yup, I said it. I used to be a member because they gave discounts on shooting-range time. I quit after one year because I couldn’t stomach the thought that my money was funding them. Their magazine and mailers are filled with propaganda about people coming to take my guns when there is absolutely zero evidence at all to suggest that is ever going to happen. Their recent ads make me sick and ashamed that I ever supported them. 8. The home protection argument makes sense to me on some level. I had a friend who was killed during a home invasion, so I get it. But an AK-47 (and other assault weapons) is not an ideal weapon for personal defense, and it serves no purpose for “home protection.” It was designed for military use. A a 12-gauge shotgun is a better, more realistic choice for home defense. I’ve never seen any peer-reviewed study/expert/article anywhere that can refute this. Bottom line: Assault-style weapons should never be in the hands of civilians. Period. And going back to point No. 7, in a home-protection or self-defense situation, you’re still more likely to injure yourself or have your own gun used against you. These are my thoughts on the subject as an experienced, licensed, and trained gun owner. I’m already a member of the Brady Campaign, Everytown for Gun Safety, and will be joining Moms Demand Action. I find it impossible to understand why other gun owners like myself don’t support these groups. They aren’t trying to take away my guns; they are trying to inject some freaking common sense into the equation — something we desperately need and that every gun owner should support.“ 

The AK and AR rounds are good for hunting, home defense, and fun. Having one rifle for all 3 things is monetarily convenient.

Manuals on the mechanical principles of firearms, their means of manufacture, and the tools with which to manufacture them have always been available to every person, almost every person on the planet, but certainly every person in the developed world. 

Compare a single shot, frankly under-powered and delicate firearm that costs over $300 to manufacture (the first time, anyway) which requires technical knowledge and extensive (and fiddly) set up of a expensive power tool, to a single-shot firearm capable of firing a 12ga slug which costs MAYBE $45 to manufacture in it’s entirety, tools included, and can be done in an afternoon, by anyone with two hands and who can follow basic written instructions. The latter can even be done without any electricity, internet connection, infrastructure, and even in the presence of armed guards in a prison (which has occurred before). 

The release of Additive Manufacturing Tools has not significantly effected the capacity of an individual to produce a working firearm, even in bulk, compared to other tools of similar cost (with a $300 drill press set you could crank out fully automatic SMGs at a decent rate).

Note, many libraries (public libraries) have books like the above, and have had them since almost forever. Usenet was sharing firearm designs back nearly at it’s inception.

Why are you focused on attacking people who are the victims of crimes and not going after the aggressor?

If you’re not part of a criminal gang, you should be more wary of bad drivers, sugary beverages, pools, ladders, opiates and/or suicidal thoughts.

No one in his or her right mind supports gun control, because it had, has and never will have no positive impact on crime and violence anywhere.

Okay, I’m going to paint you a story. Imagine being a small 5’2” unathletic girl that wants nothing more in the world to be nice and pretty and perfect. Imagine being sexually assaulted and stalked by a boy three years my senior that didn’t get that no meant no and strong-armed his way into your life over and over again. Imagine him stalking you and trying to emotionally manipulate you into sleeping with him. Imagine him being more intense when he learns you prefer girls. Imagine on top of this you’re now moving into a small apartment with two other weak ass girls in an area with heavy drug problems. A complex that has had issues with junkies breaking in before. Imagine knowing that if this stalker that you hope and pray you got rid of finally, because he hasn’t done anything to get arrested yet, that pepper spray or a knife won’t stop him, because he told you in-depth that he enjoys pain like that and that he gets off on it. Imagine taking class after class after class to know the rules of safe gun handling inside and out and pray to god that you’ll never ever have to take your gun out for anything other than to practice at the range.Imagine wishing that I could live in a world that I could give up my gun, but also knowing that it might be my only line of defense against a man I know would have no problem raping me if given the chance. So yes Gun can do horrible things, and I cry for every last person that dies by a gun used in anything else but in self-defense. But I can’t give up my gun knowing that it might be the only thing that stands in the way of my rapist and I or a junkie so high that he wouldn’t even think about killing a small girl so he can ransack her place.

I’m all for heavier regulations and think control is a strong point of owning a gun, but I can’t give up my gun without feeling like my life, and those of my roommates are at risk.

In countries that guns have been outlawed or extremely heavily regulated, China being the worst, mass knife attacks have become popular. They cause serious damage too, so maybe guns aren’t the only issue at play. X X X

 Oh, and guns aren’t a segregated product. Minorities and LGBT+ members are allowed to own guns too, and a lot do for protection if you actually looked at the post with the #notjustagun you would have seen a trans man was pictured citing he wanted to protect himself from transphobic attacks, a black man was pictured citing that he wasn’t going to trust the police to keep him safe, a girl that appears to be Hispanic agrees with me and says Pepper spray isn't always enough.

I started college today, and the very first thing we did in my very first class was not sitting around introducing ourselves, or getting an overview of what the course would involve this semester.

It was watching a ten-minute training video on what to do if an active shooter comes on campus.  The SELF method, they called it – Survey, Evacuate, Lock-down, Fight-back.

Think about that for a second: my very first college lesson was on how to escape from a building, how to barricade a classroom in the event that evacuation isn’t an option, and how to distract/subdue a shooter in the event that you can’t even lock-down in time.

Consider it like this; if a school didn’t have training seminars or the like, in the wake of a shooting (or series of copycat shootings, themselves fueled by the media frenzy), the parents and students would likely put serious pressure on the school to make those things happen.

So, school funding will have to be allocated to these sort of things almost preemptively to avoid receiving backlash from students and parents driven into a corner by something that is statistically speaking, is incredibly unlikely, taking that funding away from other places it could be used. 

Until 2015, we had a marked trend for 20 years regarding gun violence. Every year gun violence went down by 100-300 deaths, per year. It only went up after a surge in political violence and a surge in social acceptance of political violence, and even then, the statistical likelihood of being killed by gunfire in the US is very low (like, hundredths of a percent low), not even including mass shootings, which are a minuscule fraction of even that percent of a percent. 

I heard someone refer to “the gun climate” today, and I just want to share some facts:

From 1993-2010, homicide by guns dropped a staggering 49%, and dropped slightly since 2010.

This is despite the number of guns rising by 64% in the same time frame.

In a list of the top 10 American cities with the highest gun murder rates, 9 of them are cities that vote Democrat and 8 of them are cities with some of the most strict gun control.

Even in red states, the majority of murders tend to take place in blue counties.  Now, there have been fake gun homicide maps next to fake electoral maps.  So, I’ll show you the real maps and you can decide for yourself:

So, by all means, draw your own conclusions.  The similarities are stark, though.  Logically, this data shows us two logical conclusions:

This is not a republican issue.  The areas with the highest gun control regulations happen to be the areas with the highest rates violent crime, including gun homicide.  You’ll also find that the map shown is a complete contradiction of maps of gun ownership.  Areas with the highest rates of legal gun ownership also tend to have very low or nonexistent rates of gun crime.  Don’t trust me, check the data.  Legal gun owners, in a general sense, are not a problem.

Gun are not the problem.  Even with a steadily increasing number of legal firearms owned by law-abiding citizens, the homicide rate is the lowest it has been since 1963.  Law abiding citizens owning firearms, of any type, are not a threat to the safety of law abiding children.  They are not a threat to school children.  My owning guns is not a threat to my neighbors who want them gone.

The fear-mongering media has pushed an agenda, telling you that guns are bad and should be gone.  But the data shows that guns in this nation are not a problem.  So why don’t we focus on the real issues?  Let’s focus on gang and inner city violence.  As the maps I’ve shared show, the areas of focus tend to be hotbeds for these activities.  Let’s focus on SSRI medications that have proven time and again to have paradoxical effects.  I would love to see comprehensive studies that might show a correlation between SSRI medications and both homicide and suicide.  Let’s focus on why the violence happen, not how.

The AR-15 uses the same caliber as the M-16; NATO 5.56mm; or .223 Remington (for most cases, the same/similar chambering and pressure).

To be clear;

Automatic means the firearm performs the full cycle of operation (loading, locking, firing, unlocking, extracting, ejecting, repeat) repeatedly for as long as the trigger is held down.

Burst fire means it performs the cycle of operation more than once per trigger pull, up to a set amount.

Semi-automatic means it performs the cycle of operation once, no matter how long the trigger is pulled, per trigger pull. (Almost all handguns are of this type).

Manual means it does not perform the entire cycle of operation without external mechanical assistance or action. (Pump action, bolt action, etc).
