I’ve always felt like these were cut down on purpose.

Funny how all the half-finished ones encourage uniformity and upholding the status-quo, while the complete proverbs encourage like…living exciting, eclectic lives driven by choice and personal passion.

I’m pretty sure it should be a rule of thumb that any pithy saying that implies one thing, when taken in either its original context or unabridged, means the exact opposite of its current usage. Pot calling the kettle black. Means when you are calling somebody else on something but you are equally bad about it yourself. Except that when the phrase was coined, pots were all cast iron and kettles were polished silver or tin. So it would be the pot seeing its own reflection in the otherwise spotless kettle. It’s about a person seeing the stuff they are bad at in other people who are actually completely innocent of those traits.
