If Sephiroth has the Jenova-cursed Masamune, and Angeal has the honor-blessed Buster Sword, what could be the circumstances and origins around Genesisβs Rapier?
Itβs upsetting that Ever Crisis First Soldier provided us with Angeal and Sephirothβs backstories around their swords but with the end of service coming soon, we wonβt see the same for Genesis. :(
But Iβd like to think that Rapier could be related to the Cetra. Looking at it, itβs not very rapier-like, itβs broad, long, and not the daintier style usually seen for rapiers. It has symmetrical wings at the hilt with an additional single wing acting as a knuckle guard. The purple stone embedded would give hints to Jenova, but the blade also has what appears to be script on it. Could it be the Cetraβs indigenous language? The way the sword is used also makes me want to see it as something with the Ancientsβ power.
Genesis is already magically inclined, and his sword acts as a medium to extend these abilities. We see him charging it up to attack in many scenes, and it often glows as he fights.
And how might he have obtained it? Maybe instead of in ancient ruins like Masamune or as a gift from family like the Buster Sword, what if Rapier was created from Genesisβs studies and forged with transcriptions of Ancientsβ texts? Instead of being found or gifted, Genesis drew up the design plans himself and studied Cetra battlemage incantations to put on itβ¦WHAT IF??!
I also like the juxtaposition of the three friends β 1) the one whoβs definitely not an Ancient having a sword cursed by the one being trying to take over the planet 2) another having a sword with humble beginnings, steeped in love from his family and 3) the one friend who constantly strives to be a hero, protagonist, actually having a βchosen oneβ type of sword with some rich archaic historyβ¦
