Meet Beaudille
Beaudille is a combination of a 10-stitch blanket and a sampler blanket and the reason that that isn't a common thing, is that I made this up when I was just beginning my knitting journey. Unimpeded by any form of knowledge or experience I embarked on a 6 year adventure of knitting a 200x150 cm blanket, made up of 300 10x10 cm patches.
I wanted a big project that would keep me busy and entertained. I'd tried a regular 10 stitch blanket, but a never ending slog of garter stitch was too boring to continue, so I got creative. I "gauge swatched" and figured out that 30 stitches by 40 rows in stockinette resulted in a patch of approximately 10x10 cm. I bought a stitch bible and merrily set about choosing 273 stitch patterns I liked and converting them to 30x40 patches. Randomized the 273 patches in a spreadsheet, printed 273 graphs and cast on.
I knew noting of gauge, I understood nothing of fiber choices and yet, I forged on. Turns out 4-ply cotton isn't ideal for lace and there is a marked difference between the size of an eyelet 30x40 patch and a slipped stitch 30x40 patch. So she'll be wonky and a little weird looking. That's okay.
By patch 23 I figured I could document my progress, so I started posting short videos on Tiktok. I posted whenever I finished a patch, but eventually settled on a rhythm of 1 patch a week.
Seeing as Tiktok might be banned in the US soon and it isn't clear what that will mean worldwide, I figured I'd backup the whole journey to this cockroach (lovingly) of a website that will survive anything.
I'll be posting daily until I'm caught up, then it'll be a weekly thing.
Eventually, when I'm finished, I might make the charts for the patches available. I refuse to write out an actual pattern for this ridiculous endeavour, but I have the charts, so why not. But not until I'm finished.
