The overwhelming sense is that the writers belive that neither House nor Wilson is capable of ever having a successful relationship with a woman or really anyone at all besides each other, but also the idea that House and Wilson could be gay is really funny and anyone who believes that is stupid, which must be reinforced by referencing it constantly.
