why is it that when im reading fanfic i feel like i have a fairly good metric for if something is characterized accurately but when im trying to write suddenly its like ive never seen this character in my life. would he say that. would he fucking say that. suddenly i have no idea

as a certified woman-lover I understand the instinct to say there's no such thing as a woman who isn't beautiful or all women are amazing etc. and i take a lot of comfort in loving women. and beauty is in the eye of the beholder etc. we can't say anyone is objectively attractive or not and "ugly" is a loaded worded riddled with a history of fatphobia, racism, and ableism. that all being said, all women don't have to be beautiful to deserve respect. women are allowed to be "ugly". if we hinge our respect for women solely on how much we love them then what happens when there are women we don't find attractive or nice or pleasant or who actually have no desire to be seen as attractive either. what about grandma? idgaf if you find old women hot, what about their unpaid labour? their rights??

Anthy and Akio's backstory does feel like a commentary on fridging,on the surface it seems like a simple "Woman suffers so man can devolp his character" at first.A boy sees his younger sister being brutalized by humanity,something which he believes is unintentionally his fault which causes him to become the very thing he sought to destroy,thing is that when fridging occurs in stories it's always about the male character's distraught at the tragedy inflicted on the female character,never how the woman is affected or feels about the situation.To put it simply since women are treated like accessories in these stories their perail is seem as something akin to an object breaking,it's only bad for the owner,meanwhile in Revolutionary Girl Utena we see how Anthy is constantly affected by this awful situation she sees no escape from.
