For the anon : So I think delusions can be seen as bizarre while you're having them. Like you can notice that "hey maybe this isnt a thing I used to believe" or you can feel yourself falling into a delusion but I think that you generally would believe them to be 100% to be a real DSM™ leGIt dOCTOr dx. But paranoia can certainly be similar to a delusion where you are scared that something like that might happen to you (medicine killing you) but not necessarily convinced that it is for certain
for the anon!
so i've had times where i avoided taking headache medicine or cold medicine because i legit thought they would kill me, only ever while i had a lot of hypomanic or manic symptoms too. were those delusions or nah? i'd literally be almost crying from pain, unable to sleep, and still refuse to take headache medicine. i genuinely thought i'd die or something horrible would happen if i took even a small amount. also can you know a delusion is false?
it sure sounds like a delusion to me!
i’m not sure but i think while having a delusion is not possible to know that it’s false. but i always realize they are false when i stop having my episodes.
maybe my followers can help me here!
Concept: you are finally living in the moment. You stopped worrying so much and the anxiety has vanished. You breath at peace.
My boyfriend just started opening up to me about his emotional problems. Yesterday, we both talked about having a lot of the same issues. The thing is, I am being treated for Bipolar II & he is not. The other thing is, I do not remember a lot of what I experienced during periods of major depression or hypomania, so how do I know if I really have this if he seems to live w/ the same issues & has not sought help in any forms? I do not want to invalidate his issues, but I HAD to have help
A lot of people can’t remember what they did during episodes, me included!
A thing that is really important in order to be diagnosed with any sort of mental illness is if it affects you in a significant way. He can have “symptoms” and not necessarily they will cause significant impairment of his activities, as your symptoms have caused.
Do not compare the things you feel with the things he feels! If you think you have  Bipolar II and were diagnosed with this, you probably have it. The disorder does not manifest itself the same way in different people. And maybe your boyfriend has it too, but in a milder form.
I just found your blog and I love it! Unlike a lot of other concept blogs I really feel like your posts apply to me and I'm so happy. I'm bipolar II so sometimes it's hard to relate to the more extreme symptoms people with bipolar have.
aww i’m so glad to hear this :)
bipolar can manifest in a lot of ways and you are no less valid than other people
lots of strength to you!

Concept: People notice when you exhibit psychomotor agitation. Instead of forcing you to stop before you are ready, they acknowledge that you are going through problems that currently feel very serious. They support you with these problems. You calm down. You stop hurting yourself. You are going to be okay.
How do I know if I have bps?
Bipolar disorder can manifest itself in different ways.
-Bipolar I: a person has at least one manic episode lasting at least a week. He or she also has multiple episodes of major depression. Time spent with depressive symptoms, may outnumber time spent with mania symptoms by about 3 to 1.-Bipolar II: a person has a milder form of mania, called hypomania, lasting several days or longer. Periods of depression, though, outnumber the time spent with symptoms of hypomania by almost 40 to 1 in many people with this form of the disorder. Because hypomania can be mistaken for ordinary happiness or even normal functioning, bipolar II may often be misdiagnosed as depression alone (unipolar depression).-Bipolar disorder not otherwise specified (more recently called "not elsewhere classified"), people have symptoms of mania or hypomania that are too few in number or too short in duration to meet currently accepted definitions of a manic or hypomanic syndrome or episode.-Cyclothymic disorder (sometimes unofficially called bipolar III), a person has hypomanias (as in bipolar II disorder) that alternate frequently with brief periods of depression. When present, though, the symptoms of depression do not last long enough and involve enough symptoms to define major depression as a full syndrome.
Hypomanic episodes are characterized by:
A. A distinct period of abnormally and persistently elevated, expansive, or irritable mood, lasting at least 1 week (or any duration if hospitalization is necessary)B. During the period of mood disturbance, three (or more) of the following symptoms have persisted (4 if the mood is only irritable) and have been present to a significant degree: (1) increased self-esteem or grandiosity (2) decreased need for sleep (e.g., feels rested after only 3 hours of sleep) (3) more talkative than usual or pressure to keep talking (4) flight of ideas or subjective experience that thoughts are racing (5) distractibility (i.e., attention too easily drawn to unimportant or irrelevant external stimuli) (6) increase in goal-directed activity (either socially, at work or school, or sexually) or psychomotor agitation (7) excessive involvement in pleasurable activities that have a high potential for painful consequences (e.g., engaging in unrestrained buying sprees, sexual indiscretions, or foolish business investments)"
The difference between manic and hypomanic episodes is that manic episodes cause psychotic symptoms (such as hallucinations).
Besides that, the mood episodes must not be caused by another mental illness, and the mood symptoms must cause significant distrass or impairment in any areas of funciontioning. The symptoms must not be due to effects of a substance (drugs, medications or another treatment) or a general medical condition.
