i think one thing that gets missed in discussions of like. “okay depiction of abuse/problematic dynamics” where the person is on the side of “it's fine to depict problematic things as long as the victim is clearly traumatized/not enjoying it” is that a part of the way in which abuse functions is by changing what intuitively feels good or bad to a person, that is to say, why people stay in abusive relationships is bc your brain can be wired, as a result of sustained trauma, to only feel comfortable or at-home in such situations, and to not recognise that anything is wrong in the first place. that is how conditioning and grooming work, it's how people stay in awful situations for years... and how do you depict that? an abusive relationship is still a relationship, real victims have loved and continue to love those who perpetrate intimate violence against them. you can, from a distance, see and say that the love is wrong and should not exist. but when you're narrating a story from close quarters, you can't effectively differentiate without context, an author depicting as romantic a manifestly abusive relationship and a victim and perpetrator whose inherent sense of themselves, of right and wrong, of boundaries, and acceptable forms of intimacy, has been warped through abuse.
Lolita is a book that appears to be about seduction but is really about rape. The Incest Diary presents itself as the inverse, a book apparently about rape but really about seduction. But this conceit betrays the further truth — call it the secret under the secret under the secret — that sometimes rape and seduction, coercion and desire, are not opposed at all. This is why the question of whether or not a child “wants it” is irrelevant to the morality of pedophilia (something both pedophiles and many reviewers of The Incest Diary overlook): not because children don’t want it — or do want it — but because “wanting it” is itself something so easily formed by adult violence. And not just the declaration of the wanting — what is a child’s “let’s fuck” but a simulacrum of consent? — but the wanting itself. When a victim of sexual abuse says she wanted it, she is telling us about the sort of person the abuse required her to be. The author says that it is only “as if” her sexual obsession is being raped by the man who created her. Here she is hanging back, knowingly, from the bleaker truth: It is not merely “as if” she is sexually obsessed with the man who gave her half her genetic material, fed and clothed her, made her into a thing that would desire him forever. She is sexually obsessed with him. How, indeed, could it be otherwise? Describing her father letting her out of the closet in which he had locked her, she asks, “How could I not love the man who set me free?”

My name is Ayaa from Gaza city, I am a children’s teacher, 24 years old, living with my parents and siblings. We all used to live a peacefu
Hello friends, I hope you are all well. I'm really not doing well. My mother is suffering terribly from tooth pain.
We need dental crowns, which cost over $700, and it's urgent.
Tumblr deleted all my accounts, and I've been trying to contact many of my former supporters, but without success. Please, my mother is in great pain. We're constantly visiting the dentist, and this is on top of providing food and drink for my family of eight. We also need to cover my parents' monthly chronic medication, which costs over $300. So please, try to share and spread the word about our situation so we can raise the money before Tuesday.
From a Computer Engineer to Fighting for Survival: Please Do Not Scroll Past My Urgent Appeal 🥺💔
Before this crisis, I was a Computer Engineering graduate from the Islamic University of Gaza. I had a house, a car, a promising career, and a life full of dreams. Now, I am a brother carrying the heavy responsibility of keeping my entire family alive.
I sacrificed absolutely everything before turning to this campaign. I spent my entire life savings and sold every single thing I owned, including my laptop. Out of pure desperation to feed my family, I took a grueling heavy-lifting job that my body couldn't handle. My back broke under the weight, leaving me hospitalized for an entire month.
Today, I am broken and in agonizing pain inside a tent, unable to even stand up on my own feet.
I feel completely helpless because my campaign is moving extremely slow—it doesn't even cover the cost of basic food for my family right now. We are starving, and the slow support is leaving us stranded on the brink of survival.
Please, do not look away from our agony. Your donations are our only way to eat and stay safe. If you cannot donate, please share my story. You are truly our last remaining hope 🙏😭🥀💔😔
Hi, my name is Max and I am raising funds for Mahmoud and his family who are living in Gaza. Please read his story below:
i made a post like this before but I can't find it now. so. I'll just redo it.
What's the first "big news story" you remember from when you were a kid?
It's something I love to ask mixed-aged groups sometimes because I think it's really interesting to see the responses. I've gotten answers from the Olympics of [whatever year] to Watergate to more recent stuff from my niblings.
My first news thing I remember is the OJ Simpson trial. I vaguely remember watching the news with my grandparents before that, but that's the first story I remember, in part because my second grade teacher had us go play so she could watch the verdict 😂
Do you believe in ghosts?
No, and I don’t get why others do
I can see why others would, but I don’t
In theory yes, in actuality no
Neutral/I have no actual opinion on the matter
In theory no, in actuality yes
I can see why others wouldn’t, but I do
Yes and I don’t get why others don’t

Sorry we don't talk any more. You said something 24 months And 17 days ago around noon when cancer was in the sky that implied the evil in your heart. I could have fixed you but I didn't because low key I don't need that megative energy in my life anymore. The evil is still in you btw.
Years ago I drew a few leafhoppers for an exercise at school. These are still the most popular thing I have ever posted on the internet. So I drew some more and made a poster. These little guys are very fun! finding all their scientific names was a pain though!

"Namaygoosisagagun First Nation, located north of Thunder Bay in north-western Ontario, was engulfed by fire on 15 June. About two dozen people quickly boarded boats packed with their possessions and raced across the nearby lake. “If this community waited for a mandatory evacuation process, we’d be doing a recovery mission for the bodies of children, of elders, of men and women,” said Linda Debassige, grand council chief of the Anishinabek Nation, which represents 39 Ontario First Nations. All members safely escaped but the community’s buildings and other infrastructure were completely destroyed. The Namaygoosisagagun people evacuated to Thunder Bay, where the Anishinabek Nation has been providing assistance. Debassige said that Namaygoosisagagun’s chief, Helen Paavola, had made inquiries to the federal government in the days leading up to the fire, but the community had been assured there was no imminent threat.” [...] “However, First Nations leaders, including from the Anishinabek Nation, accused the premier of being unclear about what support the province was providing and, and of disorganisation in coordinating with First Nations. The CBC has reported that although Ontario spent $271m on emergency firefighting in 2025-26, it plans to spend only $150m in 2026-27. The Ontario government did not respond to requests for comment.”
the federal government had told them that there was no imminent danger, which led them to their own defenses with evacuating the wildfires and to safety. the majority of the targeted areas affected by wildfires are first nations communities.
with the decrease in funds to spend on emergency firefighting, despite this being one of the most intense heatwaves and wildfire seasons, as well as the seemingly purposeful disorganisation in cooperating with the first nations, it very well paints the picture of blatant anti-indigenous racism and silent genocide against the peoples of the first nations.
many of the first nations do not even have clean water to drink and use and live in racialized poverty. they cannot just "move somewhere else". they shouldn't have to. that is their land.
you can donate to help the Namaygoosisagagun nation here—as well as donate to help provide indigenous peoples in canada with clean fresh water here and here.
you can also donate to the canadian red cross wildfire fund here.
