I just have so many replies to catch up on, on my ducktales blog I’m feeling a bit like I’m drowning. 

Basil blinks at the handkerchief but takes it, using it to wipe at some wounds he had felt. He really hoped these weren’t going to scar… 

He hoped it also wasn’t too late for Dawson to fix him properly… he didn’t know if there was time limit on when you could get stitches. He knew he would need them elsewhere. 

“As i’ve seen.” He said, then let out a groan of pain as he was jostled. 

“… will this truce last the night? I don’t trust your men to not attack my home while I am unable to defend myself.” He says honestly. 

Basil nearly jumped out of his skin as the shot went off, and he stared at the sudden onslaught. 

A knife to the knee was not in the plans and Basil suddenly felt nervous, although he tried to not let it show. 

He stayed still as Dandy made himself known, not giving himself away. 

“Adler.” Basil says in response, the fake name he had picked. “Here he is.” Basil said gesturing to Ratigan with a lofty hand. Basil bit his back teeth tightly, but did not move from his spot. 

“I wasn’t expecting the attack. You startled me.” ‘she’ said. 

Ratigan resisted the urge to lunge again as his hands were quickly bound behind his back, forced to stay in position on his knees whilst Dandy held onto Basil. There was no FAKING his current anger.

“Very nice work, Miss Adler~” The mouse cooed and gently dragged his fingers through the hair of Basil’s wig, admiring it and whom it belonged to. “I must admit, when my boys came to me talking about you I thought it was all a con and yet… Here we are… Glad to finally meet you in the flesh, Professor, I’m a big fan of your work!”

“Indeed? Perhaps if you were to untie me I could give you a more physical demonstration of my abilities!”

“Now now, no need for such violent words! I’m just checking on how you’re doing, what you intend to do now your empire has FALLEN and I have risen to your place… You surely don’t expect me to let you attempt to steal it back?”

“He’s more concerned about going after that detective first I think... he practically ran here when I told him I had tricked Basil of Baker Street.” He looks to Ratigan. “But then, no doubt he’d be trying to steal your empire...” he gives a shrug. 

Bram frowns in concern with Clarence say he’s sorry. He doesn’t understand. He doesn’t know why his dad is so mad at him… 

There’s a lot he doesn’t understand right now. Why the other is saying sorry. Why Uncle Basil died… 

Dawson isn’t sure what to do, what to say. He looks at Ratigan for a moment before going to gently take Bram’s arm. 

“Come along lad.” He says quietly, going to leave Ratigan alone. “Let’s leave…Clarence to his grief.” 

He couldn’t move for a long minute, or speak or… Do anything…. He merely stood, eyes closed, trying to picture Basil’s face again but just as fast as he thought of it, he was gone.

Opening his eyes once more, Ratigan found that he was alone again… Bram had gone as had Dawson. He was alone. He was truly alone.

And he was not even welcome at his own lover’s funeral. Nobody knew. How could they?

So he left, letting his feet drag, letting his trick knee wail in pain along with all the bullet wounds, cuts bruises and his heart drag him down as he forced himself away from the graveyard.

And of course

There was no Basil waiting at the door for him. And there never would be again. 

Instead Jack was standing near the entrance inside, waiting to greet people, and to send away anyone who wasn’t wanted. He had a pretty good idea of whom Basil had worked with, and which low lifes he actually disliked. 

He saw Ratigan outside, and at first made no move to get him. However when he realized he was not coming in, Jack poked his head outside. 

Basil had only just noticed the passerby, ears perking up slightly as he heard them. His face lit up and he cleared his throat, looking up at the other. 

“I’m fine!” He was far better than fine. His head felt all fuzzy and his heart was racing in his chest. Basil pressed a hand over his face for a moment as he tries to get the ridiculous smile off his face. 

“Yup… perfectly fine.” 

Ratigan couldn’t help but chuckle slightly at Basil’s stupid smile and he shook his head in amusement, lifting his hand to remove Basil’s from his face.

“Are you quite sure?” He smirked with a teasing tone. “You are rather red, Basil, are you ill perhaps?”

Professor Ratigan’s smile grew when Carlos slumped, knowing he had him. Really all it took was a little persuasion and almost everyone agreed to work with him in the end. 

“Well first on the list.” He said before  stepping forward and leaning down so his face was right in Carlos’, his hand gripped tightly his jaw, thumbnail digging into his cheek. 

“you will refer to me as Sir or Professor.” He hissed through his teeth. “Understood?” 

Carlos winced at the harsh grip and, maybe a bit against his best interest, his body tried to lean out of it.

“I… understand, Professor,” Carlos murmured as he consciously tried to relax himself.

He waves a hand and Carlos is let go of. 

“I will be keeping a close eye on you... perhaps a few of my men will be around to make sure  you don’t get into trouble, or think of going to the police...” he smiles. 

“Organizations?” He asks. “What like a spy?” He laughs quietly at the thought. Him? A spy? 

“As long as I was hired as a consultant rather than an agent, I suppose it wouldn’t be any different than when I work for Scotland Yard.” He says. 

Basil was a firm believer in not joining any sort of club, organization, or anything of the sort. If he did, he would have joined Scotland Yard as an actual detective. 

“SO I can only assume, that’s what you’re here for then. To try and recruit me?” Basil asked cocks his head curiously.  

“A consultant? No, no, well, maybe that would be a better suitable job for someone of yer background. Our organization had considered askin’ ya to be an agent but… we understand how important yer current occupation is.” 

The detective known as Basil of Baker Street held an honorable reputation and S.H.U.S.H respected that. Truthfully they had considered Basil as the same ranks of Darkwing Duck, who was also a pretty skilled detective, though not as precise and organized as Basil, but still a worthy investigator when it came to crime solving. This was why S.H.U.S.H had considered hiring Basil for his skills. 

“The door is open for ya to take, mista Basil, but it’s all up ta you an’ what you wanna do.” The canine goes up the mouse, plucking out a business card out almost out of thin air, offering it with a small smile. 

“Besides, the people of London need me.” Someone had to protect it from Ratigan. Who knew if he had time for that doing missions for agencies. 

He takes the card, reading it over before tucking it away into a pocket. 

Ratigan hadn’t exactly planned to kiss Basil, he hadn’t even expected to trap him against the wall like that. But he feared that someone was about to spot them holding hands and Basil had not been listening and blabbing on about something or other.

So he took action and… He hadn’t expected to enjoy it.

Parting their lips, Ratigan looked down to the mouse, eyes lingering over Basil’s reddened face and his ear twitching, hearing the passer by leave and he slowly began to pull away from the wall, Basil having been sheltered and hidden by his body the whole time. He often forgot just how SMALL he was in comparison.
