JACOB: You're so competitive now! [Assad laughing] Assad basically just won two races in a row and he's now like, 'Who wins? Did I win? I won it!'
ASSAD: The power's getting to my head a little bit. I need to calm down. [Jacob laughing] Okay. Can someone else read?
VARIETY: Yeah. Pass it on.
JACOB: (Laughs) This feels unfair... 'Worst note you've gotten on set?' Could it be any set rather than our set? Cause we never get bad notes.
VARIETY: Any set. Preferably your set, but any set.
ERIC: Uh, the worst note I ever got on a set was Vincent D'Onofrio telling me how to do a scene on Law & Order. And I said, 'Oh, the way I was doing it was wrong?' and he said, 'Yes.' and I said, 'That's the way I wanted to do it; was the wrong way.' [Laughter] How's that?
JACOB: (Laughs) That was great! Yeah.
ERIC: He'll kill me now. He'll stalk me now. He's going to smash my head into a door or something, right?
JACOB: That's fine! We've got your back. Don't worry.
JACOB: Yeah. Um, worst note... I don't think I ever got bad notes. I guess the only note that I can think of that was unhelpful was pretending that my head was dismembered and I was like, 'How would you breathe?' and I'm pretty sure Adam [Taylor] was like, 'Figure it out!' [Laughter]
ASSAD: That feels like an honest kind of note. Who knows how...
JACOB: Yeah. 'That's your problem'
ERIC: Method acting doesn't work when your head is cut off.
HANNAH: I feel like Levanâ and I feel like it was probably not a good note, but I remember Levan took you [Assad] off into a corner once...
ASSAD: Many times. Many times!
HANNAH: ...and you came backâ Many times! (Laughs). He like takes you away and then you would come back, and I remember you did something extraordinary when you came back and I asked him, 'What did you say to Assad?' and he told me that he had told you to 'Serve cunt' [Laughter]
HANNAH: And I was like, 'Thatâ that... that works.' [Laughter]
ASSAD: You know what? Levan's an example of someone who gives the most like, at first instinct, 'What the fuck?' notes. And then later you go, 'Oh, actually that was a probably the best note that I could have got.'
JACOB: This is why I bothâ I love Levan so much but also it's so annoying 'cause, I'm going to just expose his process but quite often he goes, 'Just say it. Just say the words.' and you're like, 'That's not like, something active!' and then you just say it, and it's so much better. And he goes (mimes Levan), and he goes (mimes Levan).
ASSAD: Uh-huh, exactly. Exactly.
JACOB: And he's always right, yeah.
ASSAD: I don't have a single example of a really bad note from a director, but I know that my least favourite notes are when someone's trying to overly explain something to me and I'm just like, 'Just give me one word, or just give me an action, or a trigger'. 'Cause the more you explain â'Cause that's what I do, I overexplain things myselfâ so if you're overexplaining to me as my head is overexplaining, we're just all overexplaining. And Levan would come and go, 'Serve cunt.' Or his other favourite one with me was 'More face'. Just 'More face' [Laughter] 'Give me more face. You have this face Assad, give me more face.' And I don't know what that means! But suddenly it works. I don't know what happens, but...
JACOB: Is this live, by the way?
JACOB: Okay. We're okay on words.
VARIETY: Yeah, we can tell people that you didn't say any of those things.Â
