(Sorry it took me a lil bit I was having trouble w ideas and time. Also this now is after Holly was taken and Karen was attacked. But the first part was not. kinda of think of her being Vecnas victim instead of Derick)
Practice ran late.
By the time I finally left the gym, the sun was already setting, making a beautiful sky that dusty orange Hawkins always got before it went dark. I was getting a little chilly in only my t-shirt, jacket, and my biker shorts. My shoulders ached, my cheer bag felt heavier than usual, and my ponytail was falling apart in that annoying way it always did after too many routines.
Everything feltโฆ different now. Holly had been taken, Karen attacked, and the whole town still buzzed with whispers about what had happened. People were scared, rumors flying, but the fear wasnโt just in Hawkinsโit was in me too.
I waved goodbye to the last of my squad and started the walk home alone.
It was quiet. Too quiet.
My sneakers scuffed against the sidewalk, the sound echoing a little louder than it shouldโve. I tried to shake off the weird feeling crawling up my spine, telling myself I was just tired. Practice had been brutal, thatโs all. My brain was probably just messing with me.
Stillโฆ I couldnโt stop thinking about earlier.
About Will Byers freezing in the hallway.
About Mike Wheeler staring at me like heโd seen something he couldnโt unsee.
I turn my Walkman on, hugged my jacket tighter around myself and kept walking
pov change
Somewhere across town, you didnโt know it yet, but the party and everyone was freaking out. Voices raised, theories flying, panic setting in. Will trying to explain what he felt/ saw. Mike pacing, hands shaking, replaying the moment over and over in his head.
And you?
Just walking home from cheer practice, jumping over cracks in the sidewalk, completely unaware that the clock had already started ticking.
The streetlights flickered on.
back to you
And for the first time that day, I felt it โ that strange pressure behind my eyes, like something was watching me from just out of sight.
To the party
Steve leaned back in his chair, spinning slightly, still holding the sense of disbelief in his hands. โWaitโฆ Y/N Turnbow? As in the Turnbow family?โ He glanced at Will, eyebrows raised. โYou mean, likeโฆ the cheerleader?โ
Will swallowed hard, nodding, hands fidgeting in his lap. โYeahโฆ I donโt know how to explain it. I justโwhen she walked past me earlierโฆ I saw it. Likeโฆ a vision. Like what happened with Hollyโฆ but this time it was her.โ
Nancy leaned forward, voice low but sharp. โA vision? Likeโฆ you saw her?โ
โItโs like I was seeing through her, as herโ his eyes flicking nervously between everyone. โI saw her falling during a stunt. She started crying and run out so no one would see her. I was her im positive, it happened just as she walked by.โ
โWait so were you seeing through the eyes of Vecna or YN?โ Steve asked.
โBoth, I was Vecna but in YNs mindโ
โ Vecnas like a psychic serial killer, he stalks his victims, but he does it through their mind is what he did with Max and Chrissy.โ Robin helped
โ Yeah but the way heโs doing it. This time is different.โ Nancy added as everyone stared
โWe went digging at the hospital and it turns out Vecna didnโt stalk her, didnโt appear as Vecna. He appeared as Henry.โ
โWe think he was tryna earn her trustโ Mike says โ Now why he went to all that trouble we donโt know, but i highly doubt the long-term goals friendshipโ He pauses for a moment
โVecna, whatever heโs planning we have to stop him and we have to save YN. No matter what it takesโ
Now Mike is in front of a map explaining how their plan will go down.
๏ฟผโThe Turnbows live here, weโll wait in a van across the street, as soon as theyโre asleep, we move in we grab YN and we move her over.โ He points over like 3 miles โHere, the Corcal farm. Itโs completely isolated itโs abandoned. The only thing is, she canโt see us or hear us the whole time so weโll need the blind fold her.โ
โ wait, wait, wait, wait. Blindfold her?โ Steve interrupts
โSo that Vecna doesnโt know where she isโ Robin says
โ if I may well, Iโm not morally opposed to any of this. There are a few holes.โ Dustin interjects.
โ yeah like what if YN falls asleep before the demogorgan attack attacks her?โ Lucas asks
โOr what if YN wakes up before we grab her alert her family and weโll go to jailโ Nancy adds
โ
Thereโs another but the third in most gaping hole is even by some miracle if this plan works, Hollys still missing, Hopp and El still MIA. This doesnโt bring us any closer to Vecna it just gives YN more time.โ
โNot necessarilyโ Mike hops up โ I think thereโs a way we can save Holly YNโ Everyone turns to him confused. โWhat if we have some established ๏ฟผ trust with her, theyโll hang out get something to eat. Slip something in her food and boom. We get her safe and sound.โ
Everyone turns and takes a long look at Mike. Nancy starts walking toward him. โMike, I swear this better not just be some ploy to get you and her alone together! Iโve seen-โ โHey wait what!? What are you talking about?!โ The truth was everyone could see how genuinely worried and scared he was, not just about Holly and his parents, not just about Vecna.
Nearly everyone besides YN had saw the way he looked at her like he was mesmerized. Walking down the hallway. Flying through the air in stunts. The best part of Lucas joining basketball was that he would get to see you on the sidelines. Now he was the lead of this case. Making sure everyone is putting in their part, not resting for a second. And now coming up with a plan that would allow him to get closer to you and gain your trust.
โDonโt. Donโt stand there and act like this is just strategy. We can all tell, Mike. This isnโt about Vecna anymore, this is about her.โ Nancy said. Mike paused for a minute than started โYeah. It is about her.โ Making everyone snap their heads. โBut that doesnโt mean Iโm wrong. Iโm not a stranger to her.โ Everyoneโs giving him a weird look exchanging glances. โWe worked together before. She knows my name. That matters.โ
Nancy rolls her eyes and cross her arms โYou donโt even talk to her, Mike, so donโt tell me this is just strategy.โ That hits Mike hard because he wished she was wrong. He thinks for a second. โExactly. I donโt talk to her. Which means she wonโt think Iโm lying to her.โ Everyone looks up with hope. Mike starts again โIf it was someone she actually leans on, Vecna would notice the change.โ he takes a look around and can tell he won them over while they all exchange looks.
โIโm not trying to be important to her, Iโm trying to keep her alive.โ He says with desperation eyes moving around the group. Nancy takes a step closer, arms still crossed โYou get one chance.โ Sticking her pointer finger her up, then lifting it i up closer If you mess this up, if you freezeโโ Mike cuts in and starts shaking his head โI wonโt.โ
And for once, Nancy believes him. The room goes quiet once Mike finishes explaining. No one argues. Thatโs how they know itโs bad. But bad doesnโt mean wrong. Nancy nods, once. โWe do it tonight.โ
Thatโs it. Stakes set.
Mike doesnโt look at her.
If he does, he might hesitate.
And hesitation is how Vecna wins.
YOUR POV WERE ALMOST DONE I SWEAR
You heard about what happened at the Wheelersโ secondhand.
Bits and pieces. Broken glass. Police lights. Holly gone.
It doesnโt feel realโnot the way it should. Just another awful thing that happened in Hawkins, another thing people whisper about in hallways and kitchens.
By the time you get home, youโre exhausted in that way that has nothing to do with sleep.
You change, crawl into bed, trying not to think about Willโs face earlier. The way heโd looked at you like he wanted to say something but didnโt.
You shift in bed turning towards the wall.
At first, you think itโs nothing. A neighbor. Someone walking their dog late. But he doesnโt move.
He just stands there under the streetlight, hands folded, staring at your house like heโs waiting for someone to notice him.
You sit up, heart beating faster than it should.
He looks up.
An older guy. Clean-cut. Normal. The kind of person your parents wouldnโt think twice about.
He smiles and gives a small wave.
You hesitate, confused more than scared.
The headache comes next. Dull. Annoying. Like youโve been staring at a screen too long.
You frown and pull the curtain a little farther closed.
When you look back a second laterโ
Heโs gone.
No footsteps. No sound. Just an empty patch of sidewalk and the hum of the streetlight.
You lie back down, telling yourself it was nothing. Someone lost. Someone weird.
Hawkins is full of weird.
Still, you lock your window before you sleep.
Just in case.
