this post always kills me bc iâm like 90% sure the picture behind him is this:
"I hate reality just as much as the next guy, but it's still the only place to get a decent meal"
- Groucho Marx
IN A WORLD WHERE BEAUTY AND ATTRACTIVENESS HAVE BECOME SO COMMONPLACE AND MUNDANE THE EXCEPTIONAL UGLINESS HAS BECOME DIVINE
I SAW AN ADVERTISEMENT FOR A CAR THAT LOOKS LIKE EVERY OTHER CAR AND THEY COMPARED IT TO A UNUSUAL UGLY LITTLE VEHICLE AND ITS STRANGENESS WAS FAR MORE CAPTIVATING THAN THE SLEEK BORING CAR THE AD WAS ACTUALLY FOR
Umberto Eco, On Ugliness
BEAUTY IS FINITE, UGLINESS IS INFINITE LIKE GOD

Skip Google for Research
As Google has worked to overtake the internet, its search algorithm has not just gotten worse. It has been designed to prioritize advertisers and popular pages often times excluding pages and content that better matches your search termsÂ
As a writer in need of information for my stories, I find this unacceptable. As a proponent of availability of information so the populace can actually educate itself, it is unforgivable.
Below is a concise list of useful research sites compiled by Edward Clark over on Facebook. I was familiar with some, but not all of these.
â
Google is so powerful that it âhidesâ other search systems from us. We just donât know the existence of most of them. Meanwhile, there are still a huge number of excellent searchers in the world who specialize in books, science, other smart information. Keep a list of sites you never heard of.
www.refseek.com - Academic Resource Search. More than a billion sources: encyclopedia, monographies, magazines.
www.worldcat.org - a search for the contents of 20 thousand worldwide libraries. Find out where lies the nearest rare book you need.
https://link.springer.com - access to more than 10 million scientific documents: books, articles, research protocols.
www.bioline.org.br is a library of scientific bioscience journals published in developing countries.
http://repec.org - volunteers from 102 countries have collected almost 4 million publications on economics and related science.
www.science.gov is an American state search engine on 2200+ scientific sites. More than 200 million articles are indexed.
www.pdfdrive.com is the largest website for free download of books in PDF format. Claiming over 225 million names.
www.base-search.net is one of the most powerful researches on academic studies texts. More than 100 million scientific documents, 70% of them are free
Agnes Obel - Riverside
I walk to the borders on my own To fall in the water just like a stone Chilled to the marrow in them bones Why do I go here all alone
I don't give a shit how good the reviews are I will never read something w a cover like this
i hate it when i cant even write a poem about something because its too obvious. like in the airbnb i was at i guess it used to be a kids room cause you could see the imprint of one little glow in the dark star that had been missed and painted over in landlord white. like that's a poem already what's the point

someone in an adjacent literary scene who wasnât my favorite person just died suddenly and i have a lot of conflicted feelings i canât tweet so theyâre going here i guess.
we had a huge falling-out bc she was being absorbed dirtbag, fash-y corners of the lit scene that i had ongoing beef with and didnât want to be associated with. one time we got in a really public fight where she committed an atrocious act of BPD on BPD violence by gaslighting me on behalf of some other dude on twitter. etc. none of that matters now i guess but thatâs how we left things. she never took our falling-out very seriously and was always trying to reach out as if nothing had happened. i ignored her every single time because she was âmessyâ and i just didnât want to deal with any more lit scene drama tbh.
but now sheâs dead and while i donât blame myself i feel like i should have been more emotionally available and not left things hanging in such a weird place. she was definitely not the savviest in dealing with the political aspects of being a writer, and i really held that against her without acknowledging that she was also a victim of those dirtbag guys who didnât care about her and benefited from her excusing their bullshit.
i donât know.
i hope she wasnât hurting too much in the end.
itâs kind of funny how the internet is really (generally) all about acceptance of mental health and abuse history and things like that but when you flip that around and talk about people who have missed developmental milestones and are a little immature for their age, people are fucking BRUTAL lol. like guys what do you think is gonna happen if someone is abused or mentally ill or closeted or isolated for significant periods of time in their youth? what happened to all the acceptance and understanding bro?Â
like i cant think of anything that matters less than someone in their mid 20s being a little immature for their age and missing milestones only to reach them later, as long as the person in question isnât trying to harm anyone or bend the world to meet their specific set of limited experiencesâŚ.who cares otherwiseâŚ
People are like âitâs so beautiful no clouds at allâ it could use a little clouds if I had to be honest.
why was skype so unhinged and fucked up. why were you allowed to quote other people's messages and EDIT THE QUOTE to make them say something totally different. why were you able to do the /me thing and do little roleplay actions every sentence if you wanted to. why could you have a call with like literally 30 people in it all talking at once over really fucking bad 2010s internet connections and creating the worst wall of sound you've ever heard in your life. why was there that fucking dancing cooked turkey emote. why.
i use Skype for therapy and iâm about to hit her with that turkey emote if itâs still there. look out Allison!!

scrolling facebook is like lifting up a rock and seeing all the weird little bugs that were crawling underneath. you get a chill. disgust mixed with awe
