Time is time and dreams are dreams.

Khaenri’ah knows about time, knows about time better than anyone could ever know about it. Time is fickle. Time is never ending. Time is time.

But, Khaenri’ah doesn’t know dreams. Khaenri’ah does not dream. It is said that Khaenri’ah only dreams of dreaming. But Khaenri’ah does not dream.

And so they wonder…

What is a dream if not the desperate cry of a nation who dreams of dreaming?

Khaenri’ah falls, of course it does, and Celestia celebrates. The people from Teyvat, centuries later, only talk in hushed voices about the fate of the godless nation. The sinners. The unfaithful. The threats.

Amber tells him about a dream of hers, one where she’s walking with her grandfather in a field of flowers, one where he tells her about his adventures, his greatest pride. It reminds him of the days—old old days, long gone now—when Diluc would whisper to him about his dreams; dreams filled with warm, impressive flammes, a bird made of fire soaring through the sky, brighter than anything he could ever imagine.

Kaeya listens absentmindedly, nodding once in awhile —just like the old days—. He even smiles at her and ruffles her hair and she lets him.

Kaeya listens and nods and says he understands…but he doesn’t, for Kaeya is Khaenrianh and Khaenri’ah does not dream. Khaenri’ah wonders and hopes and yearns but Khaenri’ah does not dream.
