Being a Rodimus angst enthusiast feels so ridiculous sometimes… yes, let’s make the silly hotdog-coloured car suffer unspeakable loss and disappointment
barber cuck chair posting made me curious: does minimus know about rodimus and megatron and what does he think if so? or are they scared he's going to go all HR violation mode on him and trying to keep it from him lol
Oooooh well. I do find it interesting that most of the Megarod fics I've encountered tend to gloss over how close Minimus and Megatron become in the comic. You can ship it or not, but, well. You know me. You know how much I adore a love triangle. And as far as I'm concerned, there is no way that passionate, lonely, emotionally cloistered Minimus does not develop some sort of limerent attachment to Megatron. I'm not sure it's romantic. I'm not even sure Minimus is sure. He's so unused to feeling this aligned with another person that he has no idea what to make of it, other than to recognize it as love.
Megatron, of course, perceives this. He is also, thanks to the unprecedented nature of their friendship, completely at a loss as to how to clear the air between them. It's for this reason that he absolutely does not rub Minimus's nose in what he and Rodimus are up to, and Rodimus, being much cannier than people give him credit for, follows suit. It's not as if it's a secret, but Minimus appreciates their discretion all the same, understanding, with some sorrow, that it is meant to spare him.

Forever thinking of that moment in The Dying of the Light when Rodimus unbegrudgingly hands the captaincy over to Megatron.
....And then the moment at the end of Lost Light when Megatron just as graciously hands it back.
† (religion) rodimus!
I think that Nyon developed a kind of folk-religion approach to the wider Cybertronian religious stuff around Primus; one based on a lot of comparatively 'informal' beliefs about it, less based on written texts and views endorsed by religious authorities, and which were more idiosyncratic to layperson believers from that place who developed it into a version of the religion that spoke to them.
And I think this is where Rodimus' obsession with the Knights comes in. They're not formally acknowledged #Official parts of Primus-related religion, they're folk heroes who have been incorporated into day-to-day worship in the way that, say, many Christian saints are in some forms of Christianity. If there is an organized Primal church, they're mad about it! But Rodimus came of age in a society that was imploding that was desperate for a view of society that said don't worry, one day this will all go back to how it used to be, and the idea of very real, very non-abstract people who might one day return and Fix Things was understandably appealing in that context. He's religious but he cares less about Primus as a creator god compared to caring about the idea of those who are supposedly chosen who can bring society back to an imagined better time in a very grounded way.
For this reason, he knows a lot of Knights-related stories that more 'formally' religious people like Cyclonus have never heard of. He's one of the only people alive now who knows a lot of them, because many were specific to Nyon. Sometimes he says stuff and Drift is like 'huh? i've never heard of that' and Rodimus is kind of cagey about explaining it even though he knows Drift really is interested, because it feels very private and even sort of embarrassing. And a lot of those stories are much weirder and less 'elevated' than most religious stuff! I am thinking here of stuff like the Infancy Gospels in Christianity; stuff that is very offensive to formally religiously educated folks that proliferates in religious communities nonetheless because it is grounded and speaks to their questions about faith in a day to day context.
Rodimus is for this reason a very strong believer in Primes as religious figures. He feels very very defensive about almost but not quite having become one. It's an odd place to be for someone like him.
my rodimus shimp emotions are, in no particular order:
Brainstorm'ss Wacky Time Travel Adventure stopover to save those sparks means they went to Nyon iirc? So fetus Rodimus mixed in the lot somewhere, maybe.
The way Rodimus INSTANTLY sobers up when Drift confronts him about his sobriety at the funeral. And the ensuing sadness.
How Rodimus is literally doing "be as stupid as possible so they'll make you do less work" through MTMTE and it works. genius. asshole. stellar all round.
THE RODIMUS STAR GOING FROM HIM TO MEGS BACK TO HIM. WANNA SEE HOW HARD I CAN CRY?
Wym he "showed off his new roller skates to everyone"??? The cunt turns into a CAR.
All very excellent and lovely shrimp emotions! The Rodimus Star especially... I so many feelings about its journey back and forth and Roddy's final decision to let it go when he did. Hnnnng. Yeah.
I get the feeling that Roddy and Megs tread very carefully around one another in most of their vulnerable moments. Like there's this sorta 'it didn't happen, but it happened' sorta thing. With the exception perhaps being moments where Roddy starts to unravel and snap, becoming borderline manic, almost euphoric. I wonder if in moments like that Megs shows a very rare side of himself and how much he actually cares about Roddy?
You know, I've been thinking about this, and I'm beginning to suspect that the most objective evidence of Megatron's... care? presence? influence? ... is that Rodimus doesn't fall into those states very often when Megs is with him. I said earlier that the two of them have a tonic effect on each other's souls: Rodimus inspires Megs to be better, and Megs encourages Rodimus to be steadier. Sturdier. Steelier. "We're at our best when we're together," says Rodimus at the end of Lost Light, and I think this is what he means. The peaks and valleys of his temperament smooth to more even terrain; the very wrinkles seem to fall from his clothes.
That's not to say that Rodimus doesn't have his wobbles. But what Megatron offers him in those moments isn't a secret aspect of himself, some rare concealed tenderness. It's the galvanizing current of his respect, the stiff drink of his uncompromising regard: things Rodimus has always needed, deserved, and never had enough of, and they shock him back into himself.
