These are Black Olympians whose names are unfairly forgotten since they brought home only silver. Daryl Homer grew up poor in the Bronx and learned about fencing in a dictionary. Today, he won a silver medal. He became the first American man to win saber silver in an Olympics since 1904. Simone Manuel is only 20 years old and became the first African-American woman to win an Olympic individual event. She found the podium in the 50m free with a silver medal finish. All in all, she has two gold and two silver in Rio. Tori Bowie is on her way to success. The Southern Miss grad finished the women’s 100m final in 10.83s to earn her 1st Olympic medal. Venus Williams is a well-known professional tennis player. In 2002 she became the first black American woman to achieve World No. 1  in singles by the Women’s Tennis Association.  is generally regarded as one of the all-time greats of women’s tennis. She ties Olympic record with 5th medal. Justin Gatlin is a 34-year-old Black athlete who took silver for the US, becoming the oldest Olympic medalist ever in the Men’s 100m. He finished second to Bolt in a quick race separated by .07 seconds!
