it's not wednesday! whatever. it's just been a hot minute since I've posted any of my writing (vacation brain) so please have this snippet from the mostly finished durge x abdirak one-shot(?)

There were no signs of an altar, no icons or offerings but the blood.

The blood stained the wall, the floor, it painted the alcove scarlet and unwholesome rust; an arched grotto that no doubt once held a statue.

Yes; she would place herself there, become the sacrifice and object of worship both.  It seemed fitting.  When your domain was pain, the very body became holy as it suffered.  Nudity only seemed natural in these circumstances, like the most beautiful of statues.  Her trousers and underthings joined the rest of her clothing, leaving her bare and cold like a monolith.  No.  Not like a monolith.

Silver sparked at the edge of her vision; she turned her head to watch Abdirak lift a knife.

It was too thick to her eyes, too clumsy, and from the wrinkle of his lips and the lidding of his pale eyes, he felt the same.  Two more knives, a box of silver hooks, and a metal-barbed whip were likewise discarded.  He never even gave the heavier implements a glance.  But she was thinking of the beautiful twisting lines of pierced skin on his own arm, visible still as dark red streaks on his skin.  

Something finally drew her attention from admiring them.

The blade in his hand now was thin and vicious, a beautiful stiletto with a curved, jagged bone handle.  Glinting in the light as he turned it, the knife’s razor edge rousing a pleased, but wary sensation within her.  Tremulous, fragile emotion.  Not generally what she felt when pain was on the offering– no bloodlust, no battle.  No madness or malice.
