White Rose:Â Atlas Drabble
This is based on your post! I really want this scene too...
There are many things Weiss has been dreading in Atlas, but somehow it all leads up to here, to this moment where her father stands before her. His eyes are narrowed, and his back is straight.Â
He raises his hand again, and Weiss looks away, bracing for the pain.
Instead, she hears a voice.
âDonât touch her.âÂ
The words cut in, echoing through the dark. A figure sweeps into the room and Weiss can feel someone stand in between them. She opens her eyes in a daze.Â
Weiss doesnât understand, because she recognizes everything about Ruby Rose, the swishing sound of Crescent Rose, the scent of her rose petals, a glimpse of her dark hair.Â
Except, what she sees in her eyes is a look of disgust, a kind that Weiss has never known. Because Ruby doesnât get mad. Ruby gets frustrated, and annoyed, and tired, but she never gets angry.
âI said donât you dare touch her,â Ruby warns him again. And Weiss watches as Rubyâs fingers tighten around her scythe. She sees her father take a step back, alarmed and furious.
It doesnât even matter what heâs yelling at her, what sort of threats heâs making this time. For once, Weiss doesnât need to hear what he has to say. She knows that he doesnât truly care about her. Itâs just too easy to forget, when sheâs alone with him in this empty house. Itâs as if sheâs eight years old again, looking up at the man whoâs back to her was always turned.
There are footsteps now, storming off into the opposite direction. The place falls silent, and Weiss wants a second more of it to herself, to not remember.
âWeiss,â Ruby says at last. Her voice goes suddenly quiet. She reaches for her hand, holds it, and squeezes it tight. âAre you okay?â
She canât answer that, not yet. Weiss looks up at Ruby, wondering what sheâll see, wondering if itâll be the same expression of sadness and pity sheâs grown used to. Then all she sees is a look of love, of comfort and relief.
She thinks maybe she doesnât need anything else. Sheâs been working her whole life to prove her worth, but when it comes to Ruby, Weiss is stunned into silence. Sheâs reminded of how easy it is to just be herself.
Because Ruby doesnât expect more from her. Because Ruby loves her for what she is.
âIâm okay,â Weiss says, with a faint smile. âThank you, Ruby.â
Thank you for being there for me.
Iâm always okay when Iâm here with you.
