question
whenever I get anxious after eating food it is always accompanied by the need to eat EVERYTHING. I don’t get hungry, I just feel crappy about how much/what I ate, and my mind responds with the need to binge which only makes me more anxious and the cycle continues??? Im so confused??? Is this a thing?? Could it just be that I haven’t eaten enough through the day so my bod is like HEY FOOD YES FOOD MORE FOOD????? WHat is this????
For some reason the reply button disappeared so I’ll reblog instead (I hope that’s okay!).
Okay so YES THIS IS DEFINITELY A THING. I’ll write down the main reasons I end up binging after eating food and see if you relate to any of them?
1) You said about being “anxious after eating food”. “Anxious” is the key word there. For me, anxiety is a huge binge trigger. Imagine an anxious stomach full of butterflies and knots and squiggles, and then food just squashes all of that down. Obviously, this doesn’t actually work…
2) After eating I get a lot of guilt feelings. I feel like i’ve broken the rules, or given into food. I.e I’VE FAILED. And the eating disorder logic here is, “oh hey, so you failed, so you may as well binge now”. I think this comes from very black and white thinking. Once I’ve failed, it makes no difference if I fail worse. Again, obviously binging doesn’t help… (and eating food definitely is not failing)
3) I don’t know if there’s an actual science explanation for this, but if I’ve been restricting then as soon as I DO eat it’s like my taste buds explode and just need MORE AND MORE. The physical craving to binge overpowers any rationale here. This point has an “easy” solution of not restricting…
Not sure if this is similar to you at all, or if that helps?
I definitely relate to this a lot.
