“Me neither, but it tastes nothing like actual cherries.” 

“Does it taste like those candy cheeries?”

“Sorry, Bails. No can do.” He replied slowly, without looking up. Sebastian had finished his lunch twenty minutes ago, and promptly rested his feet on the chair across from him, starting up some inane game he’d downloaded to his phone. If they weren’t going to assign him anything good, he wasn’t going to sit and do paperwork all day. “Do you even know whose those are?” He drawled, making a face as he continued to tap the small screen.

“Please Seb, I will seriously beg,” she replied. “I’ll give you fifteen bucks, anything. I’ll even beg someone to put you on a good case with me if you want. Anything.” Bailey kept doing what she was doing, it was rare for the blonde to be like this. “And no, it’s not mine, but I do this when I’m nervous. I fucked up and I need your help. Seriously help me out.”

“I…yeah. I would be, too.” Kendall sighed. She looked at her hands and picked at her nails. “I didn’t mean to find Holland. I was looking for my mom, I just wanted to know why…I don’t know what I wanted.” Kendall watched as a small bubble of blood popped up on her cuticle, not feeling the pain. “I think you’d like her.”

Bailey folded and old shirt angrily. “I don’t know, Kendall. Maybe I’d like her a little more if you told me about it beforehand,” she replied. “What am I supposed to do? Just be like ‘ooo yay! golly gee, my sister has this biological sister now, guess I’m just kicked to the curb.’?”

“Oh! I have no idea who the Casey boys are!” Kendall said with mock enthusiasm. “Bailey, I need more than that. Why was it a mess? Did he have poo breath?”

“Jesus Kendall, Sam Casey?” Bailey replied. “You’re friends with his little sister.” Bailey put her hands over her face. “It was a mess because I lied and told him I needed to get help Brax with something after I kissed him and then ignored him for weeks, because I can’t deal with the possibility of working with someone that I love and commitment.”

“I think I met your sister the other day. She told me that she’d eat my eyeballs for dessert if I hurt Braxley. Short, angry, blonde…not really that scary?”

Bailey nodded. “That sounds like Kendall,” she replied. “And trust me, she may not look scary, but she is.”

“I got twenty bucks that Burrows and Wilkinson blow something up today.”

“I got twenty bucks on two hours,” Bailey responded back, not looking up from her paperwork.

Kendall stood in the entry to Bailey’s room for a moment before walking in. “You’re not mad at me, are you?” She said softly.

It was awkward after the family dinner. Bailey was staying at the old house for the night, in her old room, and it felt weird now since Kendall said all that stuff. Part of Bailey couldn’t feel bad, she still hung onto the letter her parents gave her, the necklace her parents gave her before they left her, part of her wished for a relationship with her biological parents just like Kendall did. Though, part of Bailey wanted to scream. This sister, this sister wasn’t planned at all, this she didn’t see coming. Bailey was always the big sister, and suddenly there was another big sister in the picture. What if that changed everything? What if Kendall left her? So after Kendall retreated to her room, Bailey retreated to her old room, and she cleaned. A weird nervous habit of hers. When Kendall entered she didn’t stood, she wasn’t sure what to say to her young sibling. “I don’t know,” was her answer. “I guess maybe.” She shrugged.

“Fielding! Where’s that tall, weird boyfriend of yours? He owes me five bucks.”

“First of all, he’s not my boyfriend. Second of all, you come to me when you can go to him for something next time I’m going to hit you. I’m not in charge of Sam, or his babysitter. Thirdly, I don’t know where he is, have you tried the HIT department?”

“You have what?” Kendall grinned. “What are these boy troubles? You got a boy toy?”

“No, not a boy toy,” Bailey replied. “Just a boy trouble. One of the Casey boys and I kissed and now everything is kind of a mess.”

“Congratulations. I’m not your brother.” He said dourly, sighing in frustration. The company had been nice, for a moment, but now he was wishing he hadn’t opened the door at all. “I don’t give a shit what you think, I’m not hungry. I ate, you can go.”

Bailey slammed her magazine down on the table and stood up. “Fine,” she said. “But just so you know. The people you push away and keep pushing away, one day they’re just not going to come back, Casey. So you should give a shit, because it’s a lonely life not having anyone.”

“Can I interest you in a free sample of our newest creation, the cherry cake? It’s zingy, delicious and completely freshly made.”

“I’d love to, but I’m kind of not a big fan of cherries. Like at all.”

“Fuck off.” Was his only reply as he leaned back, crossing his arms and putting his feet up on the coffee table next to the bowl of soup. He wasn’t about to tell Bailey, but it was more than he’d eaten in days, so it was a step in the right direction, he supposed. “I ate.”

Bailey mirrored his actions. “Not enough,” she replied. “Don’t you try and test me, Casey. I basically helped raised my little sister after my mom left. I’m impassive to this childish bullshit you want to pull.”
