a popular weak hero author is using AI to write - @/juliettejwnewinesa
while looking for weak hero fics to read, i noticed this author's writing sounds an awful lot like ai wrote it (â_â) and i did some further digging and i'm like 97% sure most of their fics are from chatgpt
1. word counts of fics don't match up
you can clearly see that it's nowhere near the written word count. (fic here)
it doesn't look anywhere near 8.2k words. there are multiple instances of it and i'll link them below
1 2 3 4 5 - if you go and check personally you can see that it just doesn't add up. even if you're just doing a broad estimation of what the word count is, it's around 10x more than the actual and it'd be clear.
here's me using chatgpt to do something similar with a random request. the word count is very off too
i did notice that they put the actual word counts on some fics so i'll give them credit for that, but there's just too many with the far-fetched ones to be a coincidence
2. wrong name for characters? screenshot 1 screenshot 2 screenshot 3 screenshot 4
the wrong surname for baku..? (ÂŻ . ÂŻ;) either this is bad proof-reading (thrice) or it's the AI messing up because the author has written multiple fics with baku where they get the name right. + chatgpt thinks baku = bakugo.. also the ask has the name spelled differently and the AI generated the wrong name based off of it too đ almost every other fic is "Seongje", but this one is "Seong Jae" because of the ask
3. screenshot 1 screenshot 2
there's a complete 180 in these responses and the second one is in the same exact vibe of chat gpt
thanks for reading and please do not write off ai generated fics as your own writing đ no offense to anyone with a similar writing style but after reading through multiple fics i find it really robotic, especially the headcanons (ăť_ăť)

taesan doesn't like you... is what he would always say. after all, you're just his neighbor. so what if you accidentally spill drink on your shirt and he just happens to be considerate? not like he cares or anything. he's just trying his best to stop you from whining at your own messâlike how you just wore your favorite shirt and now it's completely ruined so he borrows you one of his shirts instead. that meant nothing, obviously.
á°.á
"just admit it. you're literally so obvious, dude." jaehyun snickers, watching taesan who's too busy pretending to mind his own business. jaehyun lets out a dramatic sigh as he flops down on the sofa behind taesan. he obviously wouldn't be stopping his blabbing anytime soon.
this was an everyday routine for taesan. he just ignores jaehyun as if he didn't existâsimply nothing more than just a puppy who acts like an annoying fly, buzzing in his ears.
jaehyun's words were nothing but harmless bullets for him because he knows to himself that he's not into you, he's sure of it.
it's not like his world revolves around youâhe's literally your neighbor. it's not his fault he knows the exact face you make when you thought you've lost your key, the way your eyesbrows suddenly glue together, your eyes glaring at your very own bag, rummaging inside in frustration (which by the way, entertains taesan every single time it happens). or the way you'd come out at 7pm everyday with tons of cat foods just to feed the stray cats waiting outside your door.
none of it meant anything, really.
dings. it's you, againâasking taesan to fix your broken sink for the 4th time this week. and of course, there goes myung jaehyun again, rambling how taesan instantly closed the book he was holding, which he was barely reading in the first placeâhe just used it to be a somewhat distraction to shoo away jaehyun's voice.
jaehyun couldn't hold himself as a soft chuckle escapes his mouth, he finds taesan amusing because his words does NOT match his actions at all. "dude, do you even realize how nichĂŠ your behavior is right now? YOU DON'T EVEN FIX MY TOILET WHEN I CLOG IT!" taesan couldn't help but to roll his eyes at jaehyun, followed by a small tsk. "a sink is different from a toilet, jaehyun. it's different." he said as he ran off as fast as he could to escape jaehyun's rambling again.
á°.á
taesan comes back to jaehyun creepily smiling at him, what's up with this guy...?
"sooo, how's your sink date with y/n?" he's already bothering him. he didn't even give taesan a secondâ no, a millisecond to put down his bag.
jaehyun walks towards him, his arms leaning on an invisible block, even his hands placed on his chin out in the air. he's here to sip some tea. "so, why did you drop on her place? :3" taesan wanted to argue, but jaehyun's right... right..? no. taesan hesitates. he did drop by your place because he feared you'd flood your entire apartment and stay on his insteadâ totally!
and just like that, jaehyun was soldâthat you like her. a grin stuck on his face, obviously enjoying taesan's reaction, his pride hated it. that's when his mouth fought for him... "fine, i'll prove it." ...jaehyun just snorted at him, "prove what??"
"that i don't like yn." â and just like that, taesan's 10 steps to NOT be in love was birthed and was ready to be put on action. oh he cannot wait to rub it on jaehyun's face once he proves himself right. oh, just you wait, myung jaehyun. just you wait.
á°.á
TAESAN'S 10 STEPS TO NOT BE IN LOVE
STEP 1: avoid you
â avoiding you? that's easy work. he always do that to people in uni. how hard can it be to avoid you?
â except you literally live right next door. right as you two meet outside the apartment, you simply wave at him, and before he could even process it, his arms automatically wave back. just a guy waving with the most blankest expression everâhis face wasn't prepared but his hands were. (STEP 1: FAILED)
á°.á
STEP 2: continue being the mean guy he is
â okay, easyâagain, that's in his nature. sure it's impossible to avoid you, but being mean to you? that's doable.
â both of you are waiting at the bus stop, you tapped himâshowcasing the keychain you made... "so, what do you think? i made it by myself!" he... he couldn't release his inner mean-ness for some reason, "yeah, it's nice." (STEP 2: ANOTHER FAIL)
á°.á
STEP 3: ignore your texts (easy!)
â how easy can it be for taesan to ignore your texts? easy... again... right? right...! he can just turn off his phone and go on with his day.
â his phone dings, he clears his throat, excusing himself, "oh, maybe jaehyun messaged me, that guy... definitely.." nope, it was from you. he swipes up on the notification, barely reading your messageânot until his eyes catches on the words "taesan, can you help meâ" nope, he won't fail step 3 that easily. well, not until he looked outside the window to see you struggling. next thing you know, he's right beside you as he helps you carry your groceries inside. (STEP 3: passed? i mean he didn't reply to you... nope. FAILED! - according to jaehyun)
á°.á
STEP 4: no more favors (sorry yn)
â you can manage... jaehyun said so. as for taesan? he's not so sure. you're literally the fairy godmother for yn. will this be possible?
â jaehyun, taesan, and riwoo's playing gamesâsomeone knocks on the door, and you guessed it. it's yn. "can you fix my sink...? i swearâ" controller down, tools up. the two guys stared at him... weren't we playing games... and just like that, taesan poofed again. "step 4 is another fail." jaehyun muttered to himself. "what the heck do you meanâ" you don't have to know riwoo, you don't have to know. (STEP 4: F)
á°.á
STEP 5: encourage you to date! (jaehyun's idea)
â now this one is easy, just throw her men she can date. that totally proves he doesn't like you, right?
â okay, taesan's in the living room along with jaehyun, listing off guys you could possibly date. sungho - nah, he's a cleaning monster. yn's the complete opposite of him. he'd probably scare her. riwoo â he's perfect! (in jaehyun's opinion!) nope, no. riwoo's too... funny. we don't wanna kill yn from laughing too much, right? right. leehan - an immediate no for taesan. he's too perfect for her, yup. woonhak - he's a baby. we don't wanna turn yn into a single mom juggling her uni duties while babysitting woonhak. (STEP 5: big fail. jaehyun died laughing at taesan)
á°.á
STEP 6: stop remembering things about her, even the tiniest bits (jaehyun's idea again. taesan disagrees)
â let's keep it simple. he just needs to refrain himself of constantly reminding you things that you always forget. except...
â you're in the campus sitting at the bench, reading your notes. taesan's coincidentally at the area minding his own business listening to musicâhe definitely doesn't see you right at the corner of his eyes using his peripheral vision. but he could tell you were stressed, maybe reviewing for another hell of a quiz your prof threw at you this week. and just like that, as you look at your watch, you're about to be late, which forced you to run off. yeah, except you forgot your phone. he knew you'd forget something, and there he wasâoutside your class handing out the phone you left. (STEP 6: sadly a fail)
á°.á
STEP 7: SOCIAL DISTANCING!
â how about we go old school? this should be easy, he had done this multiple times during the pandemic. it wouldn't be hard to keep his distance from you. he hoped.
â no matter how much gap he tries to put on you two, you always manage to close it. you see him walking? you'd call out his name and put on the brightest smile as you wave to himâof course, he'd nonchalantly wave back. you'd bump to him in the convenience store? seconds laterâyou two are walking home together. (STEP 7: embarassingly a fail)
á°.á
STEP 8: not your diary
â you're happy? you tell taesan. you're sad? you tell taesan. you're mad? you tell taesan. you tell taesan everything. he told you multiple times he's your neighbor, not your unicorn diary or whatever. he swore he wouldn't listen to your rants.
â had a stressful day? you sent a voice message to taesanâhe didn't even listen to it. not until a few seconds later. now he's at your door, holding snacks to ease you up, mumbling "here, i hope it makes you feel better, i guess." (what step are we on.. oh! STEP 8: fail...)
á°.á
STEP 9: stop thinking about you
â ever since this plan started, you were all over his head more than ever. jaehyun suggested this step as a "cleansing method," a way to get you out of taesan's head.
â okay, this should be easy. he just needs to focus on his class, video games, jaehyunâ jaehyun!? get out his head, pleaseâliterally anything but you (and jaehyun).
â except everything is suddenly all about you. the empty sit on the bus? that's the sit he saved for you. the plush he saw on the store? it's the same one you had. the music he's listening to right now? that's your favorite songâhe groans, bumping his head on the table, this is hard. his phone lights up, of course, it's you. "taesan, have you eaten yet?" okay, maybe one reply wouldn't hurt. (STEP 9: it's pretty obvious)
á°.á
STEP 10: he's not in love with you
â at this point, this was the ultimate test. he just had to wake up and feel... nothing. he knew this step would be the easiest. he wins, jaehyun loses.
â "you lose." jaehyun snickers at him, annoying the heck out of taesan by doing his silly victory dance. taesan just sits there, arms crossed. he... lost? pfft, no way. jaehyun on the other hand was dripping in amusement, "10 steps? it seemed like 10 steps to prove you like yn." he says, bursting out laughing.
â he didn't even mean to look outside his window but he saw youâwhy were you wearing a beautiful pink sundress? it's literally so cold right now. your face couldn't even hide how cold your body was, the way you were shivering, it worried taesan. and in a matter of seconds, taesan's already outside along with his jacket wrapped around his arms, right in front of you. "here, just take it." with a surprisingly soft voice, he couldn't help but to wrap the jacket on you, his face inches away from yoursâthat did something to taesan's stomach. his heart started beating fast, badum badum why was it doing that??
â as for you, the moment felt different with taesan. usually, these type of things meant nothing, but for some reason, seeing his face up close, you could see the details on his expression, the way his face eyebrows furrowedâhis face genuinely concerned for you. it made you wonder, was han taesan always like this?
â the moment freezed for the both of you, eyes locked onto each otherâonly to be stopped by jaehyun creeping up behind taesan, taking him away. you just laughed at the situation, but is it weird to say you were disappointed you didn't get to spend much time with him at the moment?
â as for taesan, jaehyun's clinging on his shoulders obviously he's got something to say, "you like yn, huh?" and for the first time, that made taesan smile crazy, though he did push jaehyun away right after for ruining his moment with you. (STEP 10: failed. but who cares?) "what about 10 steps of confessing to yn now?" mhm, taesan locked jaehyun outside.

The rain came down in a steady rhythm, a soft patter against the windowpane, threading through the quiet of your room like a soft lullaby. Itâs the perfect Friday night. One of those rare evenings where everything feels settled, where there was no unfinished work tugging at the edges of your mind and no looming responsibilities weighing down your shoulders.
The state of your room was pristine, the scent of freshly laundered sheets mingling in the air with the faint herbal aroma of your tea, the steam still curling in the air from where you placed it on your nightstand. The air was cool from the rain, but the warmth of your post-shower skin seeped into the plush comfort of your blankets. It cocooned you in a delicious contrast of warmth and chill.
The dim glow of your desk lamp flickered slightly, its light casting long, slanted shadows across the room. It danced over the neatly stacked textbooks and scattered notes thatâfor onceâwerenât demanding your attention.
With a deep breath, you nestled deeper into the comfort of your mattress, pulling the covers just a little higher as you opened your well-worn copy of Emma in your hands. The spine creaked with familiarity, the pages soft beneath your fingertips, the edges slightly frayed from years of love. You traced your thumb along the words, sinking in the world Austen so carefully crafted; where meddling and misunderstandings unfold within the genteel drawing rooms of Highbury.
The rain continued its ceaseless drumming, a quiet accompaniment to the turning of each page. The weight of the week melted away, dissolving into the hush of the storm and the safety of solitude.Â
Youâre glad to escape the world of responsibility and work; at least for a little while. In this moment, you were free: free to lose yourself in the clever and playful words of Jane Austen, warmed by your tea as you wrapped yourself in the comforting embrace of the quiet, rainy night.
The world outside is distant, softened by the misty glow of streetlights and the gentle patter of raindrops against your window. The steady rhythm soothed you, lulling you deeper intoâ
Tap. Tap. Tap.
Faint at first, barely enough to steal your attention from the pages between your hands. A soft, rhythmic tapping. Your brows furrowed, eyes flicking up from the curling pages of your beloved novel, confusion and caution pricked at your skin.
For a moment, you wondered if itâs just a loose branch from the storm, swaying against the glass. But then, the sound came again, more deliberate this time.
Tap. Tap. Tap.Â
Tap. Tap.
TAPTAPTAPTAPTAPTAPâ
And thenâyou saw it.
A face.
Pale against the rain-streaked window, dark eyes peering through the glass and strands of wet hair clinging to sharp cheekbones.Â
Your breath caught in your throat, a strangled sound escaping before you could stop it. For a long moment, you simply stared, heart hammering against your ribs as you struggled to make sense of what you were seeing.Â
The golden glow of your desk lamp flickered against the raindrops of your windowpane, catching on the sharp planes of his faceâpale from the cold, his usual smirk replaced with a tight grimace. His fingers flexed and strained against the wet wood of the sill, and another gust of wind made the familiar looking boyâor ghostâsway precariously.Â
âWhat theââ you spluttered. Finally snapping out of your daze, you scrambled out of bed. You practically threw the book aside as you rushed to the window, fumbling with the latch. When you shoved it open, for a split second, you simply stood there, the wind howling through the open window as rain splattered against your cheeks and the cold air bit at your skin.
The sight before you was utterly absurdâKim Leehan, soaked to the bone, clinging to your fourth-floor window for dear life.Â
âAre you out of your mind? This is the fourth floor! How did you evenââ
âA guyâŚâ Leehan grimaced, tightening his grip on the slippery windowsill as his fingers began to slip. âNever reveals his secrets.âÂ
He was visibly struggling, his knuckles turning white as he fought to keep himself from plummeting to his deathâor at least an expensive visit to the hospital. Your stomach twisted when you glanced down, seeing nothing but the slick, empty space between him and the ground below. His dark eyes, sharp as ever despite the rain dripping into them, flickered up to meet yours.
âNice to see you too,â he drawled, though the slight shake in his voice betrayed him. âIâd love to catch up, really, but I think hypothermia is knocking on my doorâalong with the whole falling to my death thing, soââ
âOkay, okay, shut up,â you grumbled, planting your feet as you hauled him in with as much strength as you can muster. He was heavier than you rememberâlean but packed with muscleâand the rain didnât make it any easier (can you tell that heâs done this a few times). Leehan groaned as his torso tipped over the edge, crashing into you as you staggered back onto your heels.
With a final, graceless heave, he tumbled in, landing in an unceremonious heap on your floor and rainwater seeped into your freshly vacuumed rug. A long silence stretched between you two, save for the steady drip, drip, drip of water pooling onto your pristine hardwood floor. You stared at him, breath still uneven from the exertion. He looked up at you through a mess of wet hair, breathing just as heavily, rainwater glistening along his jaw.
âWhat the hell, Leehan?â you finally said, hands still trembling slightly from the adrenaline. âWhy are you scaling buildings like some kind of delinquent Spider-Man?â
Leehan groaned, lifting his arm weakly before letting it drop back onto the floor. âOne,â he started, voice hoarse, ânever insult the best superhero like that ever again.â
You opened your mouth to retort, but before you could, he sluggishly sat up and peeled his drenched hoodie over his head. It takes a second for your to register what youâre seeingâbut then, your stomach twists.
A deep, angry gash cuts across his torso, fresh and bleeding.
âAnd two,â he finally finishes, lips quirking into a weak, humorless smile as he gestured toward the wound.
Your frustration immediately morphed into something heavier, something sharper. âLeehan,â you breathed, crouching down beside him, âyou need stitches.âÂ
He shrugged, feigning nonchalance, but you could see the exhaustion etched in the lines of his face, the slight tremor of his fingers as he pressed them into his side. âThatâs why Iâm here, doc.â
You exhaled through your nose as you rubbed at your temples. You should be used to this by nowâLeehan showing up in the dead of night, bleeding and bruised, flashing that same reckless smile like itâs all just a joke. But it never gets easier. Not when itâs him.
âBathroom,â you said with a firm voice. âDry off, you know where the towels are. Iâll grab the suture kit.â
He nods, pushing himself to his feet with a wince. As he made his way to the bathroom, you pulled open a drawer to retrieve the spare clothes heâd left behind last time. (Which, coincidentally, had been because of the same exact reason.)
By the time Leehan emerged from the bathroom, his hair damp and a towel draped around his neck, you were already setting up the supplies at your desk. But the moment your eyes landed on him, you froze.
Bruises scattered across his arms and collarbone, blooming in shades of purple and blue. A fresh cut lingered just below his cheekbone and his bottom lip had been bloodied up, a stark contrast against his pale skin.
Your fingers twitched at your sides, the words sitting heavy on your tongue. You wanted to scold him. You wanted to demand why he always did this; why he never thought about himself.
But instead, you gestured toward your bed and muttered, âLie down.â
He obeyed, settled back against the mattress and lifted his shirt without a complaint. You took a deep breath and steeled yourself, ignoring the tightness in your chest as you pressed a sterile cotton pad against the wound. His skin was warm beneath your fingers.
Leehan didnât flinch. He never does.Â
Instead, he watched you, head tilted against your pillow and dark eyes following every movement of your hands with a quiet sort of intensity. The kind that made your throat dry, the kind that made you wish you werenât so used to thisâpatching him up and stitching him back together in the dim glow of your desk lamp while the rain sang against the window panes.
A tired cycle. A routine written into your friendship.
The room was quiet, save for the rain drumming against the window. You worked swiftly and precisely, and your hands moved with the familiarity of routine. Leehan didnât flinch, doesnât even so much as wince. He just stared at the ceiling, fingers tapping idly against his ribs.Â
Finally, you broke the silence. âWhat was it this time?â
He exhaled slowly, his hand pausing mid-tap. âJust a small scuffle,â he muttered. âSome guys were messing with Woonhak. Thought itâd be fun to pick on him.â
Your brows furrowed. âSo you decided to take them all by yourself?â
âIt wasnât like that.â He shook his head, eyes trained back on the ceiling as his jaw tightened. âI just threw a few punches to scare them off. But then someone pulled a knife, and then there were sirens, and, wellâŚâ He let out a breathy, humorless laugh.Â
You pursed your lips as you knotted the last stitch a little too firmly. He hissed but didnât complain.
âYouâre an idiot,â you said, voice quieter this time.
âYeah,â he muttered, head tilting slightly to look at you again. His lips twitched into something almost fond. âBut thatâs why I always come to you. Steadiest hands in all of Koz Uniâs nursing program.â
You didnât look at him, didnât let him see the way your expression wavered. Instead, you pressed a final piece of gauze over the wound, taping it down with the care of someone who wished they never had to do this in the first place.
âYeah, well,â you murmured, smoothing down the bandage, âmaybe next time, use that reckless head of yours for something other than getting it bashed in.â
Leehan hummed, the corner of his lips tugging up despite the exhaustion weighing heavy in his eyes. âWhereâs the fun in that?â
You didnât dignify him with a response. Instead, you pressed the heel of your palm into his foreheadânot pushing, gentlyâuntil he groaned and swatted your hand away, muttering a curse under his breath.Â
With a small smile, you leaned back, letting out a slow exhale. No matter how many times you gave Leehan stitches, you were always nervous like it was your first time. âYou should rest,â you said. âYou lost a lot of blood.â
After giving the typical âseek professional medical help in the morningâ lecture, you moved on to the rest of his minor injuries.
Your fingers moved with careful precision, the cotton ball, squeezed tightly between the tweezers in your grasp, was soaked in antiseptic as you dabbed gently at the wounds on Leehanâs arms. The scent of alcohol lingered in the air, sharp and sterile, as it mingled with the lingering traces of rain and something distinctly him.
Leehan didnât make a sound as you worked, though you could feel his eyes on youâdark, steady, and unwavering. The weight of his gaze pressed into you, searing like embers against your skin, but you refused to meet it.Â
You focused on the task at hand instead, the rhythmic motion of cleaning, dabbing, and wrapping. Anything to ignore the way your pulse quickened with each passing second.
But itâs hard to ignore him when heâs so close.
The space between you was barely a breath. The warmth of his body radiated through the air, despite the damp chill that still clung to his skin from the rain. His hair was a mess, black strands falling over his forehead in uneven waves, and there was something disarmingly soft about him like this. Battered and bruised and yet, undeniably alive, existing in your space as if he belonged there.
And maybe he did.
You swallowed down the thought and willed yourself to focus.Â
Your hands were steady as you finished treating the cuts on his collarbones, brushing over the bruises blooming across his skin with careful fingers. But when you reached his face, your confidence faltered.
The cut along his cheekbone was shallow but angry. A thin, jagged line that caught in the dim glow of your desk lamp. And then there was his lipâsplit and bloodied, the wound stark against the soft curve of his mouth.
You exhaled quietly, steeling yourself once again.
Leehan mustâve sensed your hesitation because he tilted his head slightly, giving you better access to his face. His lips curled into the ghost of a smirk, but his voice was quiet when he murmured, âYouâre overthinking again.â
You didnât dignify him with a response, too focused on pressing the cotton ball to the cut on his cheekbone. He didnât flinch, didnât even blink. He just watched you, his expression unreadable, eyes dark and glittering beneath the low light.
Itâs unbearable.
The room felt smaller, the silence felt heavier. The storm outside softened into a quiet drizzle, but the air between you crackled with something you couldnât quite name. Something warm and unspoken, coiling between the spaces where your hands nearly touched, where your breath nearly mingled with his own.Â
Finally, you moved to his lip, hesitant as your fingers brushed against his chin, tilting his face ever so slightly toward you. His lips parted just the tiniest bit, his breath warm against your wrist as you dabbed at the wound, trying your best not to linger.
Your thumb grazed his bottom lipâbarely there, light as air.
Leehan inhaled sharply.
Your stomach flipped, heart stammering violently against your ribs.
You didnât dare to look at him. You couldnât.
Instead, you cleared your throat, voice barely above a whisper as you muttered, âAlmost done.â
Leehan didnât reply. But when you finally, finally gathered enough courage to glance up at him, his gaze was already waiting for you. And in it, you saw everything.
The weight of every unsaid word. The years of late-night visits, quiet comforts, and silent understandings. The way he looked at you now, like you were something fragile and preciousâsomething he had spent too long pretending he didnât want to hold on to.
Your breath was caught in your throat.
For a moment, neither of you moved.
Neither of you breathed.
And thenâ
âThere,â you whispered, pulling back, severing the moment before it could unravel completely. âAll done.â
Leehan watched you for a second longer, gaze lingering and unreadable. Then, his lips twitchedâbarely a smirk, more like an exhale of something unspoken.
âThanks, doc,â he murmured.Â
And just like that, the tension splintered.
But the weight of his gaze still lingeredâon your skin, in your breath, in the quiet thrum of your heart against your ribs.Â
And you donât think itâll ever leave.
Leehan stayed the night, like he always does. It was an unspoken tradition, a ritual that neither of you ever acknowledged out loud but followed without question. After every fight, every wound you stitched up, he stayedâlike your dorm was the only place he knew to go.
The bed was too small for the both of you, but neither of you made a move to change it. You laid next to each other, bodies barely touching. Only the occasional brush of an arm, a shift of weight, a shared breath in the darkness. The air was thick with the scent of rain and the sharp sterility of antiseptic still lingering faintly between you.
The world outside was still now. The storm had passed, leaving only the rhythmic dripping of water from the eaves, the occasional rustling of tree branches against your window. Moonlight spilled in through the glass, casting fractured shadows across the ceiling, across the sheets, across him.
Leehan was lying on his side, turned toward you, and you should tell him to be careful. You should remind him that his stitches need time to set, that his body needs rest, that lying like this is only going to make it worse. But the words donât come.
Because heâs watching you.
And youâre watching him.
His face was half-lit, half-hidden in the dim glow of the moon, his dark eyes softer than youâve ever seen them. You trace over the curve of his nose, the sharp edge of his jaw, the way his damp hair clings stubbornly to his forehead. Your gaze caught on his lipsâsplit and swollen, still stained with the faintest trace of blood.
Before you even realized what you were doing, your hand moved on its own.
Your palm found the coolness of his cheek, thumb grazing over the cut on his lip with barely-there pressure. The moment your skin met his, Leehan exhaled softly, his eyes fluttering shut like he was melting beneath your touch. His body relaxed, tension unwinding in slow, steady waves, as if heâd been waiting for this.
You whispered into the dark, "I wish you didnât keep coming to me like this."
Your voice barely carries between you, but Leehan hears it. You know he does, because his fingers twitched slightly against the sheets, because his breath caught just enough for you to notice.
After a beat, you added, "You know it breaks my heart⌠right?"
Leehanâs eyes opened again, slow and heavy-lidded, the shadows deepening in their depths. His gaze was unreadable, something between sorrow and something elseâ raw and tender. He lifted his hand, covering yours where it rested against his cheek, his fingers curling gently around yours.
"⌠I know," he murmured. "Iâm sorry."
The weight of those words settled between you. There was something unspoken in the silence that followed, something fragile and uncertain yet wholly understood.
Neither of you moved.
Neither of you breathed.
The only sound in the room was the soft, rhythmic ticking of the clock on your wall, the occasional drip of rainwater outside. The world felt impossibly small, folding in on itself until it was just the two of you, here, now.
Summoning every ounce of courage left in you, you whispered, "Please donât make me worry like this."
Leehan didnât respond right away. Instead, he shifted, fingers tightening ever so slightly around your own before he slowly brought your hand to his lips.
Your breath stuttered.
His lipsâsoft despite the split, warm despite the coldâpressed gently against your knuckles, lingering for just a moment too long.
Your heart ached.
"I always knew you were going to be a nurse," he murmured, voice low, words melting into the space between you.Â
Your breath stilled for a moment. âWhat?â you asked in a quiet voice.
âI could tell back in high school,â he continued, his fingers further interlacing with yours. âEvery time I got into a fight, you were always the one patching me up. Cleaning my cuts, scolding me and clucking over me like an old mother hen. You liked making people feel better.â
You swallowed as something warm bloomed in your chest. âI liked making sure you didnât bleed out on the pavement,â you muttered.
You shook your head, staring at the faint glow of the streetlights pooling against your ceiling. You remembered those days vividlyâhim showing up at the doorstep of your childhood home with bruised knuckles and split lips; you pressing antiseptic pads to his wounds in an empty janitorâs closet while you muttered under your breath about his recklessness.
Maybe he was right. Maybe you had always been like thisâdrawn to fixing things, to soothing the ache in others, even when it hurt you in turn.
âYou were always my favorite patient,â you admitted, turning your head to look at him again. He still had your hand pressed against his lips.
He exhaled slowly, and when he met your gaze, there was something lingering in his eyes. Something that made your stomach twist and your heart clench.
âYeah,â he murmured, voice barely above a whisper. âI know.â
Another kissâthis time to the back of your hand, his breath featherlight against your skin.
Leehan lingered there, lips against your skin, like he was afraid to move, like this was something fragile that could shatter if he so much as breathed too hard. His grip on your hand tightened just slightly, as if grounding himself, and for the first time, you saw itâreally saw it.
The way his eyes softened when they met yours. The way he always came to you, no matter how bruised and battered, no matter the hour or distance. The way he let himself melt under your touch, let himself be taken care of in a way you were sure he didnât let anyone else.
He loved you.
And maybeâno, definitelyâyou had always loved him, too.
You werenât sure who moved first, if it was you or him, but suddenly the space between you vanished. His forehead pressed against yours, his breath warm and slow, mingling with yours in the stillness of the room. Your noses brushed, the barest hint of touch, but neither of you pulled away.Â
You let your fingers slip from his just enough to trail along his wrist, feeling the steady beat of his pulse beneath your touch. Your hand traveled higher, skimming up his arm, over the curve of his shoulder, before settling against the side of his neck. He let you. He always let you.
Leehan swallowed, the movement shifting beneath your palm. His lips parted, but no words came. You could see itâthe hesitation, the fear of breaking whatever fragile thing existed between you.Â
âIf I tell you something,â he whispered, voice unsteady, âwill you promise not to run?â
Your throat felt tight. âLeehanâŚâ
âPromise me.â
Your thumb brushed against the corner of his jaw, just barely tracing the line of his throat. âI promise.â
A shaky exhale. Thenâ
âI think Iâve loved you since the first time you pulled me into that abandoned janitorâs closet and shoved a crumpled up band-aid into my hands. â He let out a quiet, breathy laugh, though it sounded more like a sigh. âMaybe even before that.â
Your chest ached.
Maybe it was the way he said itâlike it had been sitting inside him for years, waiting, festering, like heâd carried this love in his bloodied knuckles and broken skin, in every glance and in every touch that lingered just a second too long.
Or maybe it was the way you had always felt it, too.
Leehan swallowed, his lips parting like he wanted to say something else, but you beat him to it.
âI love you.â
It slipped out, simple and certain, like breathing, like a truth you had always known but never dared to say.
His entire body went still.
And thenâslowly, cautiously, like he was afraid you might disappearâhe let out a soft, disbelieving laugh, his nose nudging yours. His fingers found your waist beneath the blankets, tentative, uncertain. His touch was barely there, but it burned all the same.
You felt, more than saw, the way his eyes softened.
âSay it again,â he whispered.
You smiled, your heart stammering in your chest.
âI love you.â
Leehan exhaled shakily, pressing his forehead harder against yours like he was trying to memorize the shape of you, the warmth of this moment. His handsâscarred and calloused, always rough, always bruisedâcupped your face, thumbs brushing tenderly over your cheekbones.
âGod,â he murmured, voice thick. âYou have no idea how long Iâve wanted to hear you say that.â
And then, with all the gentleness in the world, he kissed you.
It wasnât rushed, wasnât urgentâit was slow, careful, full of years of quiet longing and late-night patch-ups, of stolen glances and words left unsaid. He kissed you like he was afraid you might slip through his fingers, like you were something sacred, something he had no right to hold but was holding anyway.
When he pulled away, his lips were trembling against yours.
âYou break my heart too, you know,â he murmured, voice barely above a whisper.
âThen let me be the one to mend yours,â you whispered back. âJust like Iâve mended your wounds since we were sixteen. And I promise, I always will.â
A breath.
A soft, breathless chuckle.
And thenâLeehanâs lips found yours again, sealing the promise between you.

Immediately after turning around, you could feel the hot tears welling up in your eyes against your will, threatening to fall. It was hard to stop yourself from crying on your way back to the apartment. At this point in the night, there werenât many people still wandering around campus. Rather, you were left with only yourself and the warm glow emanating from the streetlamps, illuminating your path back home. If you didnât have a roommate waiting up for you, you were sure you couldâve sat crying on the curb until the sun rose.Â
It was unclear what exactly triggered you to lash out on him like that, but you didnât regret it, despite how shitty you currently felt. You were unaware of the pent up frustration bubbling within you, yet you wouldnât dare take back any of the words said back there. Fuck you, Han Taesan.Â
They werenât tears of sadness, no, they felt more like anger; Anger that stemmed from the realization that Taesan lives under the impression that his actions do not affect the people around him. The realization that Taesan is a hypocrite who cannot accept the fact that he could ever be in the wrong. The realization that Taesan is nothing but a ridiculously clueless boy who didnât care to acknowledge his flaws.Â
You felt like an idiot, really. Han Taesan made you feel stupid; he always managed to do so when it came to things that actually mattered. It was stupid to let him use you for his own entertainment when you knew the truth; the signs were everywhereâ yet you would turn a blind eye. Because you wanted to believe that you could trust your heart. The same heart that told you Taesan was capable of seeing you as more than any other girl on his roster. It was stupid for you to think that for you, he would be different. Donât lie to yourself like that.Â
If all of your suspicions were right â if he actually saw you as more than a friend â you knew it would never work. Because Han Taesan is a man who knows the power he holds over others, and he thrives on it. You can tell he loves feeling like he can get everything he wants with just a handsome smile and a few sweet words, devoid of any real meaning, of course. Tonight, you learned something new: The one thing Taesan couldnât control was his emotions. So what does he do about it?
He runs, avoiding them like the plague.Â
You were far from confident in how much you actually knew about him, if any of it was true to begin with, but it was terribly easy to see right through him when it came to this understanding. It was silly to hope that an emotionally closed-off man would treat you the way you deserved to be treated. It was irritating to be so sure that Taesan truly saw you as something more, and yet he was painfully oblivious to his own feelings.
And despite it all, the feeling rumbled deep inside of you, no matter how many times you tried to tell yourself you were wrong, his actions spoke louder than his words, what everyone said about him is real and you know itâŚÂ You still wanted to believe Han Taesan was more than a fuckboy.
â Ë・âŕ¨ŕ§Ë
It was difficult for you to tell anyone about what happened two weeks ago with Taesan, because quite frankly, you were embarrassed. Even though you finally got out what youâve been itching to say to his face, itâs hard to feel like you werenât overreacting. After all, you two werenât dating. You were never anything like that, right? Just two friends with some tension, thatâs all. Thereâs no reason to be so hung up on a delusion perpetuated by the questions you answered on your own accord; purely baseless assumptions about the person you thought Han Taesan could be.Â
Life went on, though. Not that it was deemed over the second you got your feelings hurt, but it definitely caused a rift in your daily routine. Youâd be lying to yourself if you said you didnât think about your last conversation with Taesan at least once a day. No word from him at all eitherâ not that you were expecting any. If thereâs one thing you knew for certain about Taesan, it was that heâll disappear when you want to see him most.Â
Youâre not exactly sure how Minnie convinced you to come to a party when you were firm on not going; it probably didn't help that you had Riwoo and Sungho practically begging you to show up to one of their parties just one more time before finals. All the moping youâve been doing recently certainly wasnât helping you get over what happened any time soon. You werenât about to be a party pooper just because you didnât want to risk seeing Taesan later tonight â it was far easier to suck it up and go along with Minnie rather than go through all the trouble of explaining everything thatâs happened until now to your unknowing roommate.Â
Riwoo and Sungho knew exactly how to have fun, so you anticipated something a lot bigger coming from the pair hosting. The party was not as bad as you thought it would beâ Not that you feared you werenât going to enjoy yourself tonight, but it was definitely more lowkey than some of the other outings youâve been to. Probably because Sungho didnât want to go all out knowing heâd have to do a bulk of the post-function cleaning right before exam season. You wouldnât be able to handle anything more than what was going on around you in your current mental state, thatâs for sure.Â
Even so, there were still unfamiliar faces scattered around the apartment as you practically hugged the walls, hard seltzer barely touched in your hands. Minnie was off socializing somewhere; youâd normally be right by her side, more than willing to engage in any of the side quests she found for you to tackle together, but you werenât feeling up to the adventure tonight.Â
You were listening into a conversation Riwoo was currently having with some of his other friends around their coffee table, laughing along and periodically chiming in whenever you pleased. The buzz from the few drinks you had earlier was definitely helping the nerves you first entered with; you hated to admit it, but socializing was far easier with the help of a substance. Itâs easy to blend into the background here, finding yourself satisfied as you sink into their plush couch. That is, until the free space next to you was filled by a stranger, smiling at the people across the table before claiming the empty seat as his own.Â
âSorry, is it cool if I sit here?â Itâs funny how he only asks after heâd sat down, as if he knew you wouldnât turn him away once you saw his face. Heâs ridiculously good-looking, handsome features prominent even in the dimly lit room. Maybe itâs the effect of the drinks you had earlier, but his cologne is making you dizzy in all the right ways. You nod, scooting over slightly to make more room for him on the couch.Â
He turns to face you, gaze burning into the side of your head, effectively pulling your attention away from the other discussion at hand. âI feel like Iâve seen you before,â he comments. The eye contact is oddly intense, and he doesnât shy away from it whatsoever. âIâm Heeseung.â He extends a hand for a handshake, oddly formal considering youâre currently at a party, but you take his hand in yours regardless..Â
âY/N,â You lower your head slightly, giving him a small smile that heâs happy to return. His touch lingers on yours for longer than it probably shouldâve, a smirk plastered on his face the entire time. He knows what heâs doing. It wouldnât hurt to have a little fun flirting with a handsome guy, especially if youâre trying to get over Han Taesan. Just for tonight.
âSo, who do you know here?â Heeseungâs eyes scan the circle of people around you, raising an eyebrow at you alongside his question. You motion your head towards Riwoo, whoâs animatedly re-telling a story youâve heard a billion times to everyone.Â
âMy roommateâs floating around here somewhere, too.â Itâs hard to ignore his staring as he watches you take a sip from the can youâre holding. âYou?âÂ
âNo one, really. I came along with some friends, I think theyâre friends with Riwoo too,â He hums, running his hands through his hair before he redirects his arm around your shoulder. A clichĂŠ move, but even the oldest tricks in the book would work with a guy as good-looking as him. âIâd like to know you, though.â Your cheeks heat up unwillingly, the room suddenly feeling far too warm for your liking.Â
The two of you stay like that, alternating between Riwooâs storytime and your own side conversations, finding yourself leaning into his touch as the night goes on. It wasnât anything particularly butterfly-inducing, more like the regular ice-breakers you go through whenever youâre faced with someone new, but talking to Heeseung was oddly refreshing. He was an incredibly attractive guy, and charismatic at that, anyone would be happy beneath his arm at a party.
âAh, I remember where Iâve seen you before,â You tilt your head up at him; you were sure you'd never seen him prior to tonight. âYou came to one of our smoke sessions, yeah?â Our? The only other smoke sesh you've been at recently was at Leehan and Taesan's house... Thinking back to it, you vaguely recall hearing his name amongst the names Taesan listed out on that fateful night. Ah, that must be who Heeseung tagged along with.Â
And suddenly you no longer wanted to continue this conversation; the newfound connection linking you two together made you fidget in your seat. Of course Heeseungâs friends with themâ You shouldâve figured from the way he was able to sweet talk you so fast. (For some reason they all happen to be good at doing so.) You didnât want to be involved with anyone in that circle any time soon, and certainly not now.   Â
âI liked that lilâ stunt you pulled with Leehan, doll.â Heeseungâs hand is cold as he reaches to cup your face briefly, bringing his index finger under your chin as he forces you to hold his stare. âWonder what else you can do, hm?â His eyes flicker down to your lips, leaning in ever so slightly before dropping his hold on you.Â
Youâre glad he seems to enjoy the elements of a chaseâ Heeseung doesnât object when you get up to âget another drink,â instead opting to watch you like a predator would its prey as you make your way over to the kitchen. He must think youâre about to fall straight into his hands, melting to putty as he continues his never-ending barrage of flirty comments in an effort to take you home with him later tonight.Â
Youâre quick to take refuge in there, grabbing yourself a bottle of water from the fridge and chugging down a third of it in a feeble attempt to cool down. Now would be a good time to know where your roommate isâ itâd be a lot easier getting away from Heeseungâs advances if you had someone else with you. You feel around your back pocket for your phone, only to find⌠Nothing. Fuck, it probably fell out while you were sitting on the couch.Â
In your attempts to leave, youâre met with a pair of broad shoulders blocking the door frame: Heeseung. âThought you were trying to get away from me, pretty. Had to come and make sure you were really getting a drink for yourself.â The chuckle he lets out is almost scary, especially now that you can see the way he towers over you.Â
You try to squeeze past him, to at least go somewhere with more people, but heâs quick to grab your arm, bringing you deeper into the kitchen with him. âLetâs stay here for a while, itâs too stuffy out there.â Heeseung moves to grab a beer off the counter, opening it with ease as he takes a big swig. âSo, you fuck Leehan yet?âÂ
You choke on your spit at the blunt question, in complete disbelief that heâd ask something like that so casually. âThe hell? Why would I even tell you that?â
âWell, youâre getting worked up over it, so Iâm more inclined to believe that thereâs something between you two now.â Heâs chuckling as he looks at you from where he was standing, leaving only a couple feet between you two. Heâs teasing you just to get under your skin.Â
â...If youâre talking about that bullshit from that night, that was nothing.â Youâd completely forgotten the way you shotgunned with Leehan in an effort to make Taesan jealous; thinking back to it is humiliating, especially knowing it wasnât just Heeseung who witnessed the intimate moment. Damnit, maybe you shouldnât have gone that far.
âIt was hot, you know. Until Taesan went and ruined all the fun by taking you all for himself,â He pauses to take another sip from his bottle. âLooks like youâve got both of them under your belt, huh? Itâs impressive. Most girls would die to be in your place.â Your skin crawled with the way he was openly referring to you like some sort of sexual object being passed around his friends.
âI didnât hook up with either of them, Heeseung. Donât go around talking about shit that isnât true.â The raise of your voice catches him off-guard, but he doesnât back down from a challenge, especially not if itâs you. Your interactions with him felt like you were the subject of some sick mind-game, one where the only goal was to piss off whoever was in their line of vision, and it was working.Â
âSeeing you get so angry is turning me on, angel. You must have something good if it means they both want a piece of you,â He puts his beer down somewhere before striding over to you, forcing you to step back until your back is flush against the cool countertops. Heâs looking down on you once more, arm resting firmly on the cabinet above you, making you feel more caged in than ever. âWhat do you say, my turn next?âÂ
Someone wolf whistles from behind him, making him drop his act as he turns to see who it came from. Itâs no one you know, but youâre more than grateful for the stranger for giving you an out of the situation you were currently in. You ignore the calls of your name as you push past the group of people trying to come in, trying to distance yourself from Heeseung as quickly as possible.Â
You werenât sure where youâd lose him, ultimately deciding that going outside might be your best bet. Damnit, you didnât think to grab your phone on your way outâ Heeseung was probably still looking for you inside, so maybe now wasnât a good time to go back in there. You could live without it for the time being if it meant avoiding that god-awful conversation. The cool air did little to combat the warmth you were currently feeling, a tightness in your chest you could only describe as unease. Your hands trembled at your side, palms sweater than you realized. Fuck, why were you so overwhelmed right now?
It was foolish for you to think you wouldnât run into one of Taesanâs friends â especially knowing that this was Riwoo and Sunghoâs party â but you didnât expect an interaction of that calibre. You felt humiliated, offended even, for something you never did. The way those words rolled off of Heeseungâs tongue as if he was certain they were true; You hated the way Han Taesan had such a presence in your life after the way you two left off.Â
Thereâs small groups of people scattered around outside, luckily too engrossed in their own circles to notice you practically running out the front door. Trying to calm down your pounding heart, you look around in hopes of finding someone you knew to try and distract yourself, to use them as a get-out-of-jail free card if Heeseung came back around. Itâs all a blur, really, scanning the backs of heads of people you donât know, and feeling insane in the process.Â
God, why do they know so many people? You curse yourself for not thinking to grab your phone amidst your route through the apartment; maybe you couldâve called up Minnie to come save you or something. Your eyes glaze over the strangers' faces once more, anxiety creeping into your stomach until you meet a familiar gaze, one that softens immediately upon seeing you.Â
Han Taesan.Â
Shouldâve figured he was somewhere outside if you didnât see him inside the whole night. Damn it, why did he have to be the only person you could name in the immediate vicinity? Heâs stood in a circle of people passing around a joint, eyes fixed onto you despite the fact that someone was currently talking to him. Taesan mouths something to the girl besides him before hastily making his way over to you, parting the group in half to get past them.Â
Seeing him again for the first time since your argument brought back all the emotions you bottled up after your argument, feeling yourself get choked up immediately. You turn your back to him, not wanting to hold eye contact any longer than you need to, and start walking with no end destination in mind. There werenât many other places you could go, not to mention the fact that your phone and roommate were both still inside the apartment, but that didnât matter right now.Â
âWhere are you going?âÂ
You halt your movements, hearing Taesanâs voice from behind you, picking up his pace in an effort to reach you. You didnât know where you were going in the first place. Turning around, you watch as he closes the distance between you two, nothing but the sound of his footsteps echoing through the air. He stopped only a couple feet away, but the smell of weed lingering on his clothes was strong even from where he was standing.Â
âWhyâd you follow me?â
âUh, I donât actually know. I guess I just wanted to see if we could talk,â He scratches the back of his head, struggling to tell you the truth: he missed you. âYou looked upset back there⌠Just wanted to see if you were okay, yeah?âÂ
âIâm fine, just kind of⌠Annoyed.â Just thinking about the way your conversation with Heeseung escalated frustrated you deeply. Taesan tilts his head in confusion at your admission, scooting backwards in the process, not wanting to invade your personal space. âNot at you, idiot. Well, not directly.â Â
âWhat happened inside? Did someone do something to you? Just tell me who and Iâllââ Just like that, Taesan was ready to storm back towards the apartment to find who made you upset, only stopping when you grabbed his wrist, physically preventing him from going any further.Â
âYouâre doing that thing again.â You drop your hold on him. The loss of your touch plants a pit in his stomach.
âWhat are you talking about?â
âThat thing where you act like you care about me,â The boy frowns at you, clearly upset that you donât believe his genuinity. âStop looking at me like that.â
âBaby, câmon. It was never an act,â Taesan reaches to put his hand on your shoulder, only for you to dodge his movements. He pauses for a moment afterwards, debating on what to say next. âI couldnât fake the way I acted with you, even if I tried.â His confession is hushed, loud enough only for him to hear.
âYou guys brought Heeseung with you, didnât you? He was spewing all this bullshit about how you and Leehan are just dying to get into my pants.â Irritation was written clearly into your outburst. â...Unless, heâs telling the truth. Is that what I am to you guys? A stupid bet or something?â
âFuck, if I knew you were here I wouldâve tried finding you earlier and none of this wouldâve-â
âWhat difference does it make? Arenât you the same way? What makes you think he wouldnât have said the same shit if you were there with me?â The tension in the air is thick, uncomfortable.  âSay something, Dongmin.â
It stung when he didn't bother to utter a single word.
âMaybe it was stupid for me to think like this, but I never wanted to believe any of those ridiculous things people would say about you,â You canât be bothered to wait for a response from the boy standing across from you, not anymore. âIf I was nothing but a game to you, why do you try so hard to act like Iâm not? If you knew those rumors were right all along, whyâd you even bother dragging this out the whole time?â
âDragging what out?â God, is he dense? Â
âUs, Dongmin! Why the hell would you keep up this act for so long if you never gave a shit about me to begin with?âÂ
â...None of that is true, Y/N.âÂ
âThen why donât you just fucking explain it to me then?â Why canât he tell you Heeseung was wrong? Why was it so hard for him to tell you what you needed to hear?
âMaybe itâd help if you didnât see me as some fucking bad guy all the time everything would make a lot more sense,â Thatâs the thing: You could never see him as the villain, even after all this. Even when he has you questioning the confines of your relationship after each and every interaction, youâve never had it in you to cut it off for good. âI donât know why you would assume the worst of me. You of all people, Y/N.âÂ
Itâs you who wants to believe everyone is wrong about him. How could he have it so wrong?Â
âYou must be joking, right? I know youâve heard it all, Dongmin.â A laugh comes out of your mouth, but youâre both well aware it isnât because youâre jokingâ The circumstances have become so twisted that it was almost humorous. âAbout how you love jumping from girl to girl, refusing to give them the time of day after youâre done with them. I was bound to end up as one of them, right?âÂ
âStop, Y/N.â Taesan pleaded shakily.Â
âI donât even know what to call you anymore. Does it even matter, Dongmin?â Taesan, Dongmin. Maybe you hated when Han Dongmin became Han Taesan. It was naive to think that youâd be able to focus on all the good parts of Dongmin when all the bad qualities of Taesan remained fixed in place.Â
You couldnât stop yourself from continuing, not now. Han Taesan would never fix his issues if he ran away from them, consistently refusing to fix them properly â If you have to be the one to tell him the truth to his face, then so be it. âHave you ever wondered why we always come back to each other like this? Especially when we both know we never get anywhere afterwards?â
 Taesan canât meet your gaze.Â
âThereâs something wrong with the way we work, you know that, right? Youâd be fucking lying to yourself if you really believed what you said back then,â The buzz from the alcohol was running dry, emotions heightened the more you sobered up. âI donât know what kind of misconstrued definition you have for friends, but we were never just friends, Dongmin. You have to understand that much.âÂ
You take a moment to catch your breath, running a hand through your hair in frustration. âI canât assume the worst in you,â It almost pains you to admit that to him; to let him know that at the end of the day, youâre still weak for him, and youâre well aware of the fact. âNo matter how many times you leave me hanging, the way you always do, I always come back to you and I hate myself for it.âÂ
âShit, I donât know why something in me wants to believe that youâre more than what everyone makes you out to beâ and I try, time and time again, to prove myself correct but I canât do anything about you going silent on me all the time, Taesan.â
âFuck, Y/N, I just⌠I canât let you end up like everyone else.â Itâs the first time heâs even attempted speaking up in the past couple minutes. âWhy canât you just trust me on this?â
âIs that all you have to say? What do you want me to make out of that?â How did Taesan expect you to trust him when he gave you nothing to begin with? If he bothered to explain what was going on in his head, maybe, just maybe, you two would be able to fix things. âWhyâs it so hard for you to just tell me?âÂ
âI-I donât know what it is,â His voice is the smallest youâve ever heard it, itâs hard to believe itâs actually coming from him. âIâd tell you in a heartbeat if I understood, Y/N. I really would.âÂ
It occurred to you that Taesan was just as lost as you were when it involved his own emotions: This coversation was going nowhere. Until he came to terms with whatâs been holding himself back, youâre certain of one thing. âI donât want to see you anymore, Taesan.âÂ
And he watches as you shove past him, beginning the trek back to the party all on your own. Even when he averts his gaze, he couldnât help but turn back around, in hopes youâd be looking back too. It was only when your silhouette became lost among the crowd of people that Han Taesan dropped to his knees, gravel harsh against the bare skin exposed by the rips in his jeans, and choked out a sob.Â
How did things get so complicated?

A mess consisting of scrap paper, pens, and various scribbled notes from the lecture was currently occupying the entire span of your desk. You were supposed to be studying for an exam you had in a couple days, but you were currently sprawled out in the comfort of your bed as you scrolled mindlessly through Twitter.Â

the_myungjaeee: LOL look at woonhak dancing in the 3rd slide
Opening Instagram, youâre faced with what looks like a photo dump from a girl who goes to your university. It was recently posted, the caption reading âlate night findsâ. Swiping to see the video Jaehyun was referring to, you cover your mouth to stifle your laughter at seeing one of your best friends dancing horribly in a parking lot, laughter coming from the background of the clip.Â
Out of habit, you find yourself scrolling through the rest of the postâs contents, finding various pictures of what you assume to be the girlâs friend group, neatly-arranged drinks in a cafe, pretty skies from places you recognize around campus. You donât think much of the post until a particular picture catches your eye.Â
To anyone else, it just looked like your typical soft-launch type post. There was no account tagged, but youâve seen enough of the relationship-esque genre of pictures to recognize them when you see one. A set of masculine hands doodling hearts on the condensation of the driverâs seat window. The quality of the photo isnât great, clearly being taken late at night, but the head thatâs half cropped out of the photo is one you recognize all too well. The bleached blonde streaks towards the nape of the manâs neck confirms the suspicion brewing in your gut: Itâs Taesan. You donât really want to think too hard about why the inside of the car is fogging up the windows like that, or why itâs a heart heâs drawing, out of all things, because you know itâll only hurt your feelings even more.Â
Curiosity gets the best of you as you tap on the user who posted the image. kminji04. Kim Minji. Youâre glad the profile was public in the first place, but maybe it wasnât something you should be thankful for. You shouldnât be diving head-first into this rabbit hole. But what you donât know canât hurt you, surely.Â
You ignore your brainâs attempt at protecting you as you examine the profile further. Having your fair share of experience when it came to social media digging, it was easy to get an idea about who Kim Minji was. Her feed reflects the same feeling you got from the first post you sawâ She seemed to take a liking to posting a variety of pictures that revealed different slices of her life. Looked to be an English major, and in the same year as you. She was undeniably stunning, model-like, even. Asides from Woonhak, you didnât share many mutuals. You shouldnât be looking too deep into this. You wouldnât get anything good out of doing so.
You kept going. In her highlights, you didnât notice anything too out of the ordinary. That is, until you got to one in particular, labeled only with a heart. Two weeks ago, a scenic view by the water. After that, two iced coffees are neatly placed side by side in a cute cafe, followed by other food-related pictures of the same nature. Clicking through the slides, you were about to write it off as just another compilation of aesthetic stills-- Except you see a familiar jacket appear in the background of one of the stories. The same jacket that currently resides in your closet. The same jacket Han Taesan wrapped around you before he kissed you for the first time.Â
Putting together the pieces, you quickly realize the entire highlight showcased various dates they went on. You never got the chance to exchange anything besides a brief kiss and your number, but it was easy to find Taesan in both her followers and following. It was more than enough evidence for you to assume that it was Kim Minji he was talking to in the library. The one he called baby. He probably wore that jacket with her in the days leading up to the party. You think itâs dumb the way your heart hurts at the understanding; youâre unsure of why you yearn so badly for someone youâd only recently met, but maybe thatâs why he built up such a reputation in the first place.Â

The notification on the top of your screen pulls you out of your thoughts. Rather than replying, you decide to open your messages, looking for one group chat in particular.Â
to: âwoonhakâs babysittersâ!
can i see u guys tmr :(Â
The responses are instantaneous, and youâre happy to see that your friends are still awakeâ probably procrastinating their assignments as well.Â
woonhakâs babysitters
Jaehyun: OKAY NOW U TEXT THE GC INSTEAD OF REPLYING ON INSTAGRAM
You: girl are u free or not
Woonhak: yes letâs hang out
Woonhak: but wats with the :( why are we :( y/n
Jaehyun: bro ik u have my schedule memorizedâŚ. you KNOW iâm freeÂ
Jaehyun: don't forget we literally operate under the assumption that we are going to see each other everyday đ
Jaehyun: but ^^ is something wrong did something happen
You: not really but i need to debrief again⌠đ
Woonhak: mystery man?
You: âŚâŚ.maybe đđđ meet at our usual cafe @ 3?
Jaehyun: not u using us as love counselors againâŚ. whatâs in it for us đ¤
You: iâll pay
Jaehyun: đđđ SEE YOU GUYS TOMORROW đŻLOVE YOU! đ
â Ë・âŕ¨ŕ§Ë
âItâs crazy how things taste better when you arenât the one who paid for them!â Jaehyun stirs the iced coffee in his hand with the straw, grinning ear to ear.
âYeah, whatever, I knew you would still show up even if I didnât bribe you with free food.â You roll your eyes at the boy next to you, who is clearly enjoying the drink you just bought for him. âHow can you tell if a guy is flirting with you?â
âYouâre just going to drop a bomb on us like that?â Jaehyun lightheartedly criticizes. The teasing never seemed to stop when it came to talking about your love life, but you were glad to know they would always lend you an ear if you needed one. âCan you give us another hypothetical scenario for context?âÂ
âYou remember how I texted that guy about his overdue book? Well, he showed up while I was working on Tuesday,â They nod, listening intently as they periodically take small sips from their straws. âHeâs always calling me pet names, like things my boyfriend should be saying... He even noticed I did my makeup differently that day too!âÂ
âIâm almost certain he likes you if heâs complimenting you like that all the time,â Woonhak affirms. âHeâs definitely trying to woo you over with that sort of act.â
âYeah, I donât think Iâd be so bold with calling a girl those names if I wasnât at least somewhat into her. Did you ask him to hang out after your shift was over?â
âI mean, I tried to. He stepped away to answer his phone, and it sounded like he was talking to a girl. At least, I think he was.â Youâre fairly certain that you were right, but maybe it was safer not to jump to conclusions.Â
âWhat makes you think that?â
âHe kept talking about how he was almost done and that heâd be coming over soon⌠And he called them baby.â Who else would he call âbabyâ if not another girl? Talking about it out loud brings back all the conspiracies going through your head when youâd stalked Minjiâs profile before bed.Â
âWow, what kind of man would call someone that after blatantly flirting with you? I was almost rooting for him until you said that, you know.â Woonhak looks disappointed as he picks up a strawberry off the plate on the table and pops it into his mouth.Â
The conversation goes dull for a moment, sounds from neighboring tables filling the silence at the table. âWoonhak, how do you know Kim Minji?â You pry, deciding not to dance around the question that could give you the answers you were desperately searching for.
âMinji? She helped me write some papers for English 301,â Heâs taken aback by the direct question, but he answers quickly regardless. âSheâs really nice though! I was hanging out with her and a bunch of other people the other week.â
âWoonhakie, what was that video she posted of you?â Jaehyunâs laugh rings throughout your corner of the cafe as he recalls the post he sent you last night. âYou looked so funny dancing like that!âÂ
âAh, is that what weâre talking about? Yeah, I lost a bet and I had to dance to a random song for three whole minutes. l didnât think sheâd post that though⌠Why do you ask?â
â...Is she dating anyone?â You shyly ask.
âWhat, are you interested? I have her number if you want it-â
âSheâs pretty, but thatâs not really what Iâm trying to get at here,â You take a moment to think about how youâre going to go about this conversation. Might as well just rip off the bandaid. âIs she dating Han Dongmin?â
âDongmin? I donât know anyone named Dongmin.â
âMm, Taesan?â You correct yourself by addressing him by his nickname.Â
âOh, that guy with the weird hair? I mean, he was with us a couple times,â Woonhak scratches the back of his head, trying to recall the events of the night. âBut I donât think theyâre together. Not officially, at least.â
âI thought the contact I saw on your phone said Han Dongmin, though. Is he Han Taesan?â Jaehyun recollects the last time you went to them for advice.Â
Catâs out of the bag now. âWould you get mad at me if I said yes?â The laugh you let out is dry as you watch the condensation drip down the side of your cup.Â
âWhatâs so bad about Taesan hyung?â Woonhak innocently asks, clearly lost.
âWoonhak, you know who he is right?â Jaehyun seems shocked as he seeks for confirmation.
âDuh, didnât I just say he was out with my friends and I? I mean, who else has hair like that? Iâm sure weâre talking about the same guy.â
âI donât think you should keep talking to him, Y/N.â Jaehyunâs voice is stern from his place next to you.Â
âOh, you like Taesan Y/N?â Woonhak seems to finally grasp the situation. âYou shouldâve told me sooner! Iâve only met him a couple of times, but I could always invite you if I know heâs coming out with us! But then again⌠I only really see him when Minji is there.â Oh. He only shows up when Minji is there. Everything seems to make a bit more sense now.Â
âHey, am I even in this conversation?â Jaehyun whines, smacking the table with the palms of his hands. âI donât like him for you, Y/N.âÂ
âOooh⌠Are you jealous?â Woonhak wiggles his eyebrows at your best friend, who is clearly upset with the newly revealed identity of the main character in your dilemma.Â
âDude, I donât even know why youâd say that. You know Y/N and I arenât like that.â Heâs glaring at the younger boy across from him, but his eyes soften when they turn back to you. âI just donât want you to get hurt.â
âIf heâs dating Minji, then I guess thereâs no reason for me to be talking to him anymore.â Your throat feels dry. You take a sip from your drink, which was untouched for the past ten minutes.Â
âYouâve never heard anything about Taesan then, Woonhak?â The boy in question shakes his head no, waiting for an explanation. âHan Taesan; music major famous for his rager parties and picking up girls anywhere he canâ If anything, Iâm more surprised you havenât heard any word of him just by being on campus.âÂ
âOkay, so he throws dope parties and is popular with girls. So what? Donât act like you didnât have girls from different classes lining up for you back in high school.â
âThatâs not the same as what Iâm trying to get at. Han Taesan goes through girls like theyâre nothing. And this is our sweet Y/N weâre talking about hereâ Do you want her with a guy like him?â At this point, Jaehyunâs visibly frustrated with his naivety.Â
You place your hand on his shoulder in an attempt to calm him down. âOh, heâs like that? He just seems so⌠Normal?â Woonhak comments, seemingly in disbelief, that Jaehyunâs version of Han Taesan is the same as his.
âYeah, I thought that too.â Your voice trails off. You wanted to smack your past self for thinking everything everyone said about Taesan wasnât true. That they were just baseless rumors.Â
âSorry, Y/N. If Taesan is really that kind of person, I donât want him with you either. Plus, Minji was practically all over him that one time so maybe they actually are a thing-â
âNot the best thing to say right now, bro.â Woonhak shrinks in his seat, shutting himself up by taking a bite of the pastry he had in front of him. âSo do you have feelings for him, Y/N? Didnât you meet like, two weeks ago?â You nod, ashamed to admit the way you feel about someone who only came into your life recently. Sure, youâve had similar crush upbringings in the past, but this felt different than your previous temporary infatuations. âI donât think itâll be easy, but I think you should take a couple steps back when it comes to a guy like him.âÂ
âNormally I wouldnât be one to butt in so heavily when it comes to the guys you like, but I seriously have a bad feeling about him now.â Woonhak frowns, feeling like he lost his previous appetite. Â
âHell, if heâs getting all up close and personal with another girl and then telling you to kiss him the next time youâre at his place, it sounds like he only wants one thing from you. Youâre just going to end as another one of his hook-ups.â You gnaw on the plastic straw in your cup as Jaehyun goes on.Â
Just another one of his hook-ups. And with how well-known Taesan was around campus, people would find out who you were sooner or later. Maybe it wouldnât be too bad. At the very least, you could probably see him more often if you were friends with benefitsâ What the hell are you saying?
âDonât even think about it.â Almost as if reading your mind, Jaehyun raises his voice at you. Youâre startled at his tone, flinching a bit in your chair. âFuck, sorry. You donât deserve to be discarded like one of his one night stands, is all Iâm saying.âÂ
âI second that,â Woonhakâs equally as upset as Jaehyun now. âMan, screw this Han Taesan⌠Han Dongmin⌠Whoever he is. Literally any other guy would be better for you.âÂ
âI figured youâd react like this if I told you it was him from the beginning.â You tuck your hair behind your ear, chuckling at your friendsâ concern. âWas it so wrong for wanting to see if he isnât the bad guy that everyone makes him out to be?âÂ
â...I guess not, but if you knew he was a shit person, why even bother trying in the first place?â Jaehyun looks at you with genuine confusion written all over his face.Â
âDunno. I just thought Iâd be interesting enough for him to want something more with me.â Maybe if you were prettier, or more popular. Maybe just then, thatâd be enough for Han Taesan to change his ways.Â
âI wish you saw yourself the same way we see you, Y/N.â
â Ë・âŕ¨ŕ§Ë
Itâs been a few days since you broke down the situation properly with Jaehyun and Woonhak in the cafe. Even if whatever you had between you and Taesan was close to nothing, itâs hard to deny that it hurt a bit to think that your story ended so fast. Youâd be lying if you said you didnât want things to end up like this. Rather than dwelling too hard on what couldâve been, you focused all your energy on cramming for the test you needed to study for.Â
Despite that, you still found yourself wishing the two of you could run into each other, just once more. When you leave the elective class you share with Sungho, you scan around the building in hopes of getting a glimpse of Taesanâs hair in the hallways. When the library doors slide open, you canât stop yourself from looking up from your monitor just in case heâs come to return his book. If Jaehyun knew you still had him on your mind after his scolding, heâd be furious.Â
Unlocking the door to your shared apartment, you melt into the couch after another session of tutoring Woonhak after heâd desperately begged you to save him from failing his math class. The agreement was that he would pay for your lunch for an entire week in exchange for your helpâ You wouldâve helped him regardless, but you wanted to see how desperate he would get for a tutor.
âLong day?â Minnie, your roommate, and friend from high school, greets you from her place in the kitchen.Â
âYeah, Woonhak is impossible to teach sometimes. He gets distracted every five minutes, I swear.â You complain as you run your hands through your hair.
âAw, that sounds like him. Howâs he doing?â The girl rests her head in her hand as she leans onto the kitchen island, looking over at you.Â
âGood, aside from the fact that he currently has a 64 in math.â You chuckle, closing your eyes as you lean back into the plush pillows.
Minnie snorts, moving to open the fridge and bending down to find a drink. âWant something?âÂ
You pry one of your eyes open to see the girl waiting for your response by the refrigerator door. âWhy not? Iâm gonna need something to take away all the stress of trying to get Woonhak to understand how derivatives work,â Minnie smiles at you as she grabs two cans, bringing them to the living room and handing you one.
âBeer? Gross.â The drink feels cool in your hand as you look at the label.
âItâs all we have, unless you want to go buy something different yourself,â She cracks the can open and takes a gulp, groaning at the carbonation.
You pout at her, but you open your drink and take a sip yourself regardless. âYou wouldnât want to come with me?âÂ
âNope, Iâm all showered and comfy already. Youâd catch me dead before you see me leaving the apartment at this time.â You laugh as you stretch your arms into the air before they fall at your side comfortably. âYou arenât going to shower yet?âÂ
âHey, itâs a Friday night. A girl canât relax in her living room anymore?âÂ
âYeah, a Friday night you spent three hours hunched up in those old study rooms again.â She props her legs up on the coffee table from her seat next to you, scrolling on her phone. âWhen was the last time you went out? You gotta take me with you next time.â
Taesanâs party. You werenât one to go out too often, and you werenât sure about the next time you would given the way your last outing ended. âThree weeks ago? I donât remember.â You bluff; practically every detail from that night and the days that followed it were etched into your memory.Â
Placing your can down on the table, you get up. âIâm gonna wash up, Iâll be back.â Minnie hums at you as she looks up briefly from what she was watching. You picked up the bag that youâd haphazardly thrown on the floor when you first got back and made your way to your room. Opening your drawers, you sort through your sleepwear, looking for one of your sweatshirts. On the bed, you hear your phone vibrating against the comforter.Â
âUgh, no way Woonhak has another question. He said he didnât need my help anymore.â Taking off your clothes from the day and throwing on your hoodie and shorts, you move closer to look at whoâs calling you.
Incoming call from âHan Dongminâ!
Just when you thought you werenât going to hear from him again. What could he be possibly calling you for? If anything, you wouldâve thought heâd be throwing another party. Or maybe he dialed the wrong person? You let it ring twice more before picking it up.Â
âHello?â You curse silently at the way your voice shakes when you speak.Â
Thereâs laughter coming from the other end, alongside muffled voices. Is this some sort of prank? Youâre about to hang up when you donât get an immediate response. âY/N? Hi.â Itâs been a while since you heard him.Â
âTaesan? Why are you calling me?â
âNot the name I want to hear from you, angel.â You let out an annoyed laugh, sitting on the edge of your bed. He has the nerve to talk to you as if he didnât ghost you for the past two weeks. âHavenât heard your sweet voice in a while. I guess I miss talking to you.â
âDongmin, whatâs this about?â You feel your heartbeat speed up, much to your disappointment. Curse him for having you wrapped around his finger still even when you thought you were getting over him.Â
âThereâs my girl,â He chuckles into the mic. âYou busy?â Youâre taken aback at his words. His girl.Â
âFuck off, donât call me again.â âŚIs what you want to say, but your cheeks heat up against your will. You feel your composure falling apart at the mere sound of his voice. â...No. I just got home.âÂ
âCome over then.â Now, it really feels like a setup. You knew there were other people with him; he could have you on speaker for all you know. Heâs probably trying to show off how easy it is to call a girl over at midnight. â...Only if you want to. Itâs only me and a couple of other people here.âÂ
âLike who?â
âLeehan, of course. And some of my friends, Matthew, Heeseung, Minji.â His voice hushes into a whisper as he continues his thought. âTo be honest, thereâs a few more people here, but I canât remember their names right now.â He giggles at his confession. Itâs uncharacteristically cuteâ youâve never heard him laugh like that before.Â
Kim Minji. Another name youâd temporarily erased from your mind. âWhoâre you talking to?â Itâs Leehan; he sounds like heâs a couple feet away from Taesan, but you can tell itâs him by his voice.
Youâre silent as you wait to hear what he says in response. Surely he wouldnât admit to talking to another girl in front of his girlfriend. But then again, maybe he didnât care to be cautious when it came to things like this. âY/N, duh. You wanna talk to her?â
âAh, I donât really think you need to-â You get out, not seeing the point in talking to his roommate at this point of time, but ultimately getting cut off by Leehan taking the phone.Â
âHey, Y/N. Long time no see, yeah?â His baritone tone shocks you, sounding much deeper now that heâs properly speaking into the phone. âOur sweet Taesan over here was hogging the joint while he was chatting you up, so I hope you understand why I had to pull you away for a sec there.â Ah. Heâs high.Â
âOh, sorry. I didnât know,â You fiddle with the string of your hoodie as you apologize, even if there isnât anything for you to be sorry for. âIâm going to hang up now, just tell Dongmin Iâm going to sleep or something.â
âWoah, hold up. Your Dongmin called you for a reason. Youâre free to come over, you know. You donât need to smoke with us, itâs cool.â There are more voices in the background, but the phone struggles to pick up the noise. âWho am I to stop a pretty lady like yourself from coming to our house again?â You can hear him smile as he talks.Â
If Jaehyun would be mad if he found out you were just thinking about Han Taesan, heâd be livid if he knew you were seriously considering taking up the offer. Rustling comes from the other end, and you assume itâs Taesan getting his phone back.
âHey, donât try and take whatâs mine, Leehan.â There he was again, calling you his. At this point, the title seemed rather fitting with the way youâre still on call, even after your friends warned you about the man you were speaking to.
âIâd love to see you again, Y/N.â Your name rolling off his lips sounds foreign, especially when heâs been known to exclusively call you pet names. âDoorâs unlocked if you show up. Donât keep me waiting too long, yeah?âÂ
Thereâs a small beep as he ends the call, giving you no chance to keep the conversation going. You fall back onto your bed, groaning out loud. âAre you okay?â You hear your roommate ask you from down the hallway.Â
âYeah, Iâm good!â Not really, though. Youâre upset at how quickly you decided to get ready to leave the apartment nstead of getting ready for bed like you initially intended to. Standing up, you move over to the mirror to address your current appearance. You internally thank Taesan for not calling you to come over after youâve taken off your makeup completely. You touch it up slightly, glad that it hadnât worn off much during the day. Grabbing your perfume on the dresser, you spritz yourself a couple times with the sweet scent. The clothes you wouldâve worn to sleep were good enoughâ After all, it's likely nobody will be in the right state of mind to care too much about what you had on anyways.
You make your way back to the living room, walking past the couch where your roommate was still sitting. âYou going somewhere? Arenât you in your pajamas?â Minnie looks up at you with a confused expression on her face, beer can in hand.Â
âYeah, just going to stop by a friendâs place real quick.â You grab your keys off of the coffee table before moving towards the door.
She gives you a skeptical look, raising her eyebrow at your explanation. âIâm not going to ask you any more questions, but donât do anything youâll regret. Iâll be awake if you need me to save you or somethingâ And donât come back too late!â
âGot it, Mom.â The two of you share a laugh as you walk out into the hallway of your apartment complex, hearing the door beep as it locks shut behind you. You internally apologize to Woonhak and Jaehyun as you wait for the elevator to come up to your floor. You were seriously doing this, huh?
â Ë・âŕ¨ŕ§Ë
In any other situation, you probably wouldnât be going out of your way to walk across campus at midnightâ But because itâs a Friday, there were groups of students roaming around, making their way to bars or house parties.Â
The weather was perfect for the walk, albeit it was only about ten minutes long. Even in your shorts, you werenât too cold on the short trip to the house. It was hard to expect anything in particular by showing up, but you prayed you wouldnât feel like a fool no matter what happened tonight.Â
Just as Taesan said, the door to the house was unlocked; you turned the knob and slowly opened it, revealing the familiar interior. It was significantly cleaner than the last time you were there, probably because they werenât throwing a party tonight. In this sort of setting, it looked more like a regular home than anything. The led lights towards the ceiling were set to a cool purple, enveloping the room in the color. The speakers were playing music, but at a more casual volume; just loud enough to hear the people you were talking to without being too disruptive to the conversation, maintaining a chill background noise for the smoke session you walked into.Â
âY/N? Come sit with us. Taesan just left to go buy some drinks.â Leehanâs head pops up at your entrance, motioning you to sit next to him on the couch with his hand. âYou know anyone here?â
Taking the spot next to him, you glance around the faces scattered around the room. Youâre glad theyâre all preoccupied with passing around a bong, otherwise you wouldnât be looking at everyone so shamelessly. There were only about six other people there, but you could only name Minji from her Instagram profile.
You shake your head no in response, giving him an awkward smile. âThatâs okay, it doesnât really matter. You can just stick by me tonight, then.â Leehan reassures you, oddly sweet compared to your last interaction. âDo you smoke?â
âNot really,â You answer. Weed wasnât your drug of choiceâ you wouldâve much rather preferred to drink, but it wasnât something you were opposed to. It wouldnât hurt, right? If anything, itâll help you take away all the anxiety that was currently weighing down your shoulders. âIâll smoke tonight though. Itâs hard not to join in when youâve all started without me.â There was no way in hell you were going to stay in that room longer than fifteen minutes if you were sober.Â
âAtta girl, I knew you would fit right in.â The brunette praises as he reaches to pick up the tray on the table. You watch as Leehan fills up the rolling paper, skillfully turning it into a neatly packed joint. Itâs kind of mesmerizingâ you can tell he does this often with the way he finishes in an instant, licking the edge of the paper to close it. Of course, he doesnât fail to make eye contact as he does so, effectively bringing a blush to your cheeks. Leehanâs looks were no joke.Â
It made so much sense to think that Leehan and Taesan were roommates. Leehan reaches into the pocket of his shirt, pulling out a neon green lighter. He places the joint in his mouth, cupping the end and inhaling as he lights it on fire. His head is thrown back onto the couch as he exhales into the air after holding it towards you, urging you to take a hit of your own.Â
You take the spliff from him, noticing how large his hands are in comparison to your own. Your actions mimic his; bringing it up to your lips and breathing in the smoke. You immediately cough at the taste, embarrassed that your body seems to reject the weed despite having done this before. Leehan giggles at you, covering his mouth as he rubs the small of your back to help your coughing fit.Â
âFirst time?â He takes it back from you, holding it between his fingers as it burns into the air. âYou can be honest, I wonât judge.â
â...No, but itâs been a while.â The two of you are in your own bubble at this point, as you pay no mind to the other people just a couple of feet away. Almost as a means of proving yourself, you snatch the joint from his hand, taking another deep inhale-- successfully without interruption this time, making you internally sigh in relief. The two of you go back and forth sharing it, alternating hits as it slowly shrinks, his spare hand resting on your bare thigh throughout the whole thing.Â
âYou look like a natural now,â His laugh is breathy; he looked dazed over. Itâs unknown how long theyâd been at it before you arrived. âYou feeling it yet?â He questions as he looks you in the eyes; his own are already glazed over, making them sparkle more than they normally did.
You canât hold in your giggle at seeing him in such a state. âYou are, thatâs for sure.â Youâre not sure when the two of you moved closer to each other, but your shoulders are touching as you both rest against the comfort of the couch. âI feel really good.âÂ
The eye contact between you two is broken as you look towards the sound of the door opening. Taesan walks through the entrance with a case of drinks under his arm, taking off his shoes before placing the box onto the table, only after taking one for himself. His face lights up once he sees you on the couch, sending you a grin as he takes his place next to Minji. âNice to see you again, pretty.âÂ
Oh, right. You almost forgot she was hereâ you were so caught up in smoking with Leehan that you werenât trying to get to know any of the other session attendees. Not that anyone cared, though. Most of them were just lying around, either swaying to the music that continuously played throughout the room, eating from the bags of open snacks laid out on the table, or nonverbal on their phones.Â
Minji tries to wrap her arm around Taesanâs as he sits down, earning a side-eye from him as he gently pulls it away. It feels like you should be jealous after seeing that, but your mind is fuzzy. âLooks like Leehan stole my seat.â His tone is passive-aggressive as he addresses the man currently curled up next to you.
âYour seat? Maybe you shouldâve called dibs if you wanted to sit next to Y/N so bad. I got her fair and square.â Leehan bites back. âI donât know why you left right after you asked her to come over.â
He moves to put his arm around youâ you can tell heâs trying to push his roommatesâ buttons, and you decide to play into it. You two share a brief look, mischief in your eyes, as you both silently understand what you were doing. Instead of pushing his arm away like Taesan had just done with Minji, you lean into it, resting your head by his shoulder as you take another inhale of smoke. The pair of roommates are entranced by the way the cloud leaves your mouth, swirling and twisting into the air before ultimately disappearing.Â
Leehan moves the both of you to where youâre sitting up properly and takes his arm off of you. Across the room, Taesan canât keep his eyes off of the two of you; the way youâre feeding into Leehanâs obvious moves on you. âCan I try something?â Youâre a little lost, but you nod your head regardless. His fingers brush against yours as he takes the blunt from your fingers, now a little less than half the size it was when he first rolled it.Â
He takes a long drag, pulling away while keeping the smoke in his mouth. Youâre shocked to feel his hand on your cheek, bringing your face closer to his and using his thumb to part your mouth open. You also feel Han Taesanâs gaze burning into your skull, but you canât turn to look with the grip Leehan has on you.Â
Leehan slowly pushes the smoke out between his lips, which were currently only a couple of inches away from your own. You inhale instinctively, a bridge of smoke connecting you as you do so. The scene feels like itâs in slow motion, or maybe thatâs just the high youâre currently feeling. You donât know when other people began watching the exchange, but you can faintly hear witnesses egging on the intimate moment youâre sharing with Leehan.Â
After all the smoke has passed between you, he moves his thumb to your mouth again, caressing your bottom lip gently. Leehan wants to kiss you. You know heâs not entirely there as he gives you a dopey grin, biting his own lip as his thoughts are fixated on how pretty he thinks you look right now.Â
As much as you enjoyed the way Leehan was currently making you feel, you knew that it was all a game to him. It was significantly easier to read himâ his intentions with you are as clear as day, unlike Taesanâs. The way he spoke to you didnât fool you; his words were laced with nothing but lust, and you werenât interested in taking it any further than it needed to be. This, you were sure of. With Han Taesan, you could never be too sure about what he was thinking. You wish it was this easy to see through him the way you could see through Leehan.Â
You know exactly what youâre doing as you lean into the brunette. He smiles again, seemingly satisfied with your movements, as he closes his eyes and does the same. Of course he thinks heâs going to get what he wants. It pisses you off how smug he currently looks when he moves to kiss you.
âPlease donât, Y/N.â Right before you turn your head to swerve the kiss like youâd initially planned to, Taesanâs voice makes both you and Leehan halt your movements. His voice is⌠small. Itâs not as confident as he would normally sound when talking to you; rather, it sounded like he was uncertain about whether or not youâd go as far as kissing his roommate in front of him. Leehan scoffs in annoyance, as he turns his head to look at the source of the interruption.Â
âWay to cockblock, dude.â The room suddenly feels tense. You can feel more eyes on you now with the way Leehanâs voice pierces the music coming from the speakers. âShe isnât yours, you know that right? Just accept it, Taesan. If she wants to sleep with me, she can make that decision herself. Isnât that right, Y/N?â You canât tell if this is all a part of Leehanâs plan to piss off his friend, but you werenât having it anymore.
âLeehan, Iâm not going to sleep with you.â Heâs laughing in disbelief-- Like he couldnât believe anyone would turn him down like that, especially in front of people watching. You can tell his pride is hurt when he moves to the opposite end of the couch, as far away from you as he can get without having to stand up.Â
âYour loss. Iâm sure youâve heard already, but Iâm a good fuck-â Out of nowhere, Taesan is grabbing your wrist and brings you up to your feet, dragging you towards the door. Your limbs feel weightless as he holds on to you, your steps gliding on the hardwood floors. Youâre barely able to put on your own shoes as you walk into the night, Taesan leading the way.
â Ë・âŕ¨ŕ§ËÂ
The cool air is refreshing; you take deep breaths, relishing at how nice it feels to be free from the smell of weed surrounding you. âDongmin, youâre holding me too tight.â You pull back against his grasp, and he immediately drops your wrist, standing in front of you now.
âWhyâd you do that?â
âDo what? I came over like you asked me to.âÂ
âYeah, and you were all over Leehan when I walked in.â
âIt shouldâve been you,â You breathe out, just barely above a whisper. âHe told me you left when I got there.â
âIf you wanted it to be me, then whyâd you let him do that? You know how he is.â He looks hurt as he confronts you, and you almost regret what you did back there.
âNo, Dongmin, I donât know how he is. And I also donât know why youâre angry at me right now. Youâre acting like I knew he was going to pull that stunt on me!â He doesnât know why heâs feeling this way either. Your annoyance is clear as the night sky above you.Â
â...Fine, say you didnât know he was going to do that,â His brows furrowed as he interrogated you further. âWhyâd you lean in?â
âI knew you were watching us. I wasnât going to kiss him either way.â You confess, not seeing the point in dancing around the bush. What you did could be seen as toxic, but you wanted to see if it would affect him at all-- to get him annoyed, jealous. Anything that could signal that he actually gave a shit about you.Â
âCan you cut the bullshit? Do you want to sleep with my friend or not?â
âDid you not hear what I said to him? I told him straight to his face that I didnât want to have sex with himâ In front of everyone, for godâs sake Dongmin! Are you hearing yourself?â Taesan is quiet, not knowing what to say.
âWhy does any of this matter to you?â You prod, impatiently awaiting his response. Because he likes you. Because youâre more than another one of his groupies. More than just a meaningless one night stand. You just need him to say it himself.
âForget it, then. Whereâs your apartment? Itâs late, Iâll take you back.â He dismisses his previous outburst. You arenât surprised that he changes the subject, but you wished he took the chance to clear up whatever it was between you two.Â
âI can go on my own.â You turn away from him, knowing that if you look at him properly your resolve will fall almost immediately.Â
âIâm not letting you walk back at one in the morning, Y/N. Itâs not good for a pretty girl to go home alone like this.â Why does he want to ensure the safety of a girl he wonât even admit he has feelings for?Â
âYou donât need to do that. Iâll just call someone while I go home, itâs not that serious.â You brush off his offer nonchalantly despite knowing you wouldnât want to go back alone at this time of night.Â
âI want to.â Taesanâs insistent; you didnât take him as the type of guy to be so stubborn when it came to things like this. âItâs either you let me walk you home, or Iâm just going to trail five feet behind you until I see you get back safe.âÂ
âYouâd look like a freak doing that, by the way.â You tease, laughing at the image of him following you around like a bodyguard.Â
âOh, Iâm very aware. Which is why Iâm politely requesting that you let me walk you home.â His gaze is soft as he pleads with you for the last time. âPlease, Y/N?âÂ
The next three minutes go by in silence, the only noise being the nearby chatter of the occasional groups of partygoers passing by the area. You never explicitly told him to go away, but he matches your pace as you make your way towards your apartment.Â
Halfway through the walk, you realize that this could be your chance to talk to Taesan properly. A chance to learn more about him without any intrusions; to see the type of person he truly is. At this very moment in time, this is the closest thing heâll ever be to being yours.
âIâm thirsty, Dongmin.â You blurt out, suddenly realizing how dry your mouth was, having had nothing to drink for the past hour.Â
âAre we almost at your place? You can drink something when you get home, no?â His steps slow down as he turns to you, his hands resting in his pockets. He isnât wrong, but you were searching for an excuse to extend the time you had alone with him.Â
Heâs met with your pouty face looking up at him, and he swears his composure dissolves in an instant; he would do anything for you right then and there. ââŚThereâs a convenience store nearby.âÂ
Your face lights up as you put your hand out for him to take, telling him to bring you there. Itâs things like thisâ you always manage to find a way to catch him off guard. Taesanâs not used to being the flustered one when it comes to women, but he'll gladly endure it if it was you doing it to him. Â
The neon sign is bright in the dark of the night, lighting up both of your faces as the boy moves to open the door, motioning for you to go in first. You wrap your arms around your torso as you head towards the refrigerated section, selecting your drink of choice after some thought. âAre you hungry?âÂ
He shakes his head no, but his eyes are fixated on you across from him standing in your pajamas, playing with the strings of your hoodie as you stand in the middle of the convenience store. His heart is beating so fast, heâs worried you can hear it from where you are. âWhy are you looking at me like that, Dongmin?â
The speed in which his cheeks turn pink is endearing. âUh, your eyes are red.â Taesan clears his throat as he looks back to the various beverages in front of them, pretending to read the labels as he puts an end to his obvious ogling.Â
âThanks, genius. Who wouldâve guessed?â You tuck the bottle you were holding under your arm, moving to look through the aisles of snacks and pre-packaged food lining the store. âYou arenât high anymore?âÂ
âI stopped smoking right after I got off call with you. I donât really feel it.â To be honest, Taesan wasnât much of a smoker either, but you didnât need to know that. The smoke sesh was planned by none other than his roommate, and Taesan only happened to walk in on it after returning home from one of the campus recording booths. He only took a few hits before he thought itâd be a good way to invite you over; it was not nearly enough to get him in the floaty state you were coming down from.Â
âWell, I still am. And Iâm fucking starving,â He lets out a small laugh, watching you exaggeratedly ponder about which pack of instant ramen you were going to get. âDo you want anything?âÂ
âMm, no. Not that hungry.â You squat down to the floor in an attempt to see the bottom shelves better. Heâs glancing around the aisle as well, moving to pick up something from above you. When you turn to look at him again, heâs holding out a cup of Shin Ramyun in your face.Â
You tilt your head. âI thought you didnât want anything, though?âÂ
âI donât,â He answers matter-of-factly. âThis is one of my favorites.â You hesitantly take the ramen from his hands as you get up, walking towards the cashier at the front of the store without any further comment.
You can feel Taesan standing behind you as you both watch the worker scan your drink and ramen. âItâs going to be 3,000 won.â Pulling out your phone to pay, your face recognition fails once, preventing you from opening your Apple wallet. You send an apologetic smile to the cashier for the hold-up.
Your card finally shows up on your screen, allowing you to finally tap the corner of the pay screenâ except youâre met with Taesanâs hand holding his card and paying for your items. âThank you, have a nice night!â The worker pushes your purchases towards you on the counter. Taesan moves to pick them up from behind you, bringing it to a table in the corner of the store.
He slides out the chair for you, which you move to sit in afterwards. Taesan grabs your drink and twists the cap off, offering the opened bottle to you. You gladly accept, taking big gulps and soothing your cottonmouth. âI couldâve done that myself, Dongmin. Same with paying back there.âÂ
âI know,â Opening up the ramen halfway, he brings the cup up to the hot water dispenser, filling up the line inside. âYou probably havenât noticed it, but youâre moving in slow motion. It makes me want to take care of you.â His last comment is just barely loud enough for you to hear. He finally sits down next to you after he uses a pair of chopsticks to pin the cover of the ramen closed while it cooks.
âI owe you then,â You comment, taking another sip from the bottle in your hand.Â
He almost looks offended at your offer to pay off your debt, waving his hand no in front of your face. âJust take it as an apology for me lashing out at you earlier⌠Sorry. I donât know why I got so angry back at the house.âÂ
You want to roll your eyes and tell him the answer to his obliviousness. Surely he should know why. Itâs because you like me, isnât it? Perhaps itâs a big conclusion to jump to, but itâs the only reason that would justify his jealousy after seeing you and Leehan together.Â
Taesan takes the chopsticks off of the cup ramen, breaking them apart and mixing together the noodles. Bringing a wad of noodles into the air, he gently blows on it, the steam rising into the air. You gasp at the smell, suddenly reminded of the intense case of munchies you were experiencing. He hums as he finishes cooling down the bite, bringing the chopsticks to your mouth. âHere.âÂ
Is he trying to feed you? Your eyebrows raise in shock, moving away slightly before leaning in, accepting the food he was holding out for you. The smile he gives you as he watches you eat is sickeningly sweet; he looks content seeing you so happy while you eat. Taking the chopsticks from his hand, you mirror his actions, except this time you offer a bite to the boy currently watching your every move.
It was cute the way he looked like a surprised puppy once he realized you were giving him a bite of his own. He opens his mouth, letting you feed him the cooled-down noodles. You watch as a blush creeps up his neck once more; he covers his mouth as he chews, looking away to avoid your gaze. âThanks.â He utters, voice quiet with the way he was currently refusing to face you.
This side of Taesan is what truly baffled you. Despite your tendency to fall for people quicker than most, you were smart enough to catch onto the signs of someone liking you back. And in Han Taesanâs case, it couldnât be clearer to youâ his usual cool-guy image disappearing when it comes to you, his atypical moments of concern, his jealousy when it comes to other men, his current acts of service.Â
Even to Woonhak and Jaehyun, it sounded like Taesan liked you. The only thing that made you question your theory was the fact that he seemed to have a tendency to run. To run away when things between you two became a little too real. But what was holding him back from being honest with himself?Â
âDo I make you nervous, Dongmin?â You wanted to try and pry the words you wanted to hear out from him.Â
Now, he reminded you of a deer caught in headlights. His head snaps back towards you, eyes the widest youâve ever seen them. His sudden movements make him choke on the ramen he has in his mouth. Your hand immediately moves to his back to pat it as he coughs. Pushing your bottle of water towards him, he gladly takes a swig from it to end his coughing fit. âWhy do you think that? Do I seem nervous around you?â
âSort of. I canât really think of a good way to describe it right now.â You pick up the chopsticks that were resting on the side of the cup to take another bite into your mouth. âBut I feel like thereâs more to you than what you let on.â
Heâs resting his head on his hand now, elbow propped up on the metal table. âWhat do you mean? You think Iâd be different than I am now?â
âNot exactly. In fact, I think the way you act with me is what Iâd expect from you. Itâs more like⌠With what little I know about you, Iâd think you werenât this sweet just based on how you look.â
â...Is there something bad about the way I look?â
You scoff, playfully pushing his shoulder. âYou canât seriously be acting like this right now. Everyone on campus thinks youâre hot.â Itâs true, yourself included.Â
âOh, is that so?â His lips curve up into a smile. You both know damn well that heâs attractive.Â
âWhatever,â Grabbing the drink sitting in front of him, you wash down the taste of your last bite. âI think Iâve almost got you figured out, Dongmin. Thereâs just a couple things I canât quite place.â Itâs only somewhat true, but you were hoping saying this would make him open up about himself more.Â
âIf thatâs the case, you couldâve just asked me, angel.â Taesan looks taken aback at your admission. In all honesty, he doesnât know what youâre referring to, but that doesnât stop him from wanting to find out. âWhat do you want to know?â
âAnything, really.â
âAnything?â
âYou realize you probably know nothing about me, right? Iâd say the same about you.â
âWhat? Thatâs not true,â He pauses for a second to think about what he could possibly recall about you, only to find that you were right. âOh. I guess you have a point.â He scratches the back of his head, feeling guilty agreeing with what you just said. âItâs weird, though. I feel like Iâm comfortable with you even if we donât know each other that well.âÂ
âSo, are you going to tell me more about yourself or should we just keep pretending weâre friends like we have been this whole time?âÂ
He pouts at you. âYou donât think weâre friends?âÂ
â...Okay, Iâll get going then.â You glare at him as you clean up your mess, dumping it into the empty ramen cup. You move to stand up, only to find him tugging gently on your sweatshirt sleeve and pulling you back down into your chair.Â
âSorry, I was just joking,â He gives you an apologetic look before straightening his posture and turning to face you better. Your knees were touching now, faces only a couple feet away from each other. âWhere should I start, then? My MBTI or something?â
âWhatever you feel like telling me, Dongmin. Iâm not looking for anything in particular.â You shrug. You truly didnât know anything about him from just your interactions and what you heard people say about him, which werenât necessarily the best, to say the least. Anything he said would be new information to you.
âI donât really think MBTI is that serious, but Iâm an INTJ. I wanted to be an idol until I graduated middle school, but I donât think that kind of spotlight fits me too well anymore. Thatâs why I settled on being a music major instead. I think Iâd rather be behind the scenes instead of being on the main stage all the time.âÂ
You can feel a smile creeping up on your face at the way heâs genuinely indulging in your request. âI can see it. You being an idol, that is.â
âYou think so? I donât know. Seems pretty tiring to keep up an act like that all the time. Plus, I think Iâm happy where I am right now,â Taesan looks down at his hands, twiddling his thumbs as he continues. âItâd be hard to not be able to see my family all the time as an idol.â
âYour family?â
âYeah, I have two younger siblings back at home. I miss them a lot, even if Iâm not that far from home. Itâs kind of sad to think that I miss out on watching them grow up when Iâm at school.âÂ
You place your hand atop his, making him stop his fidgeting. Just like that, Han Taesan felt a lot more real to you. He feels like Han Dongmin. âIâm sorry. It must be difficult for you then, huh?â
âOh, yeah, sometimes.â He takes your hand in his, playing with your fingers now instead. The action makes you giggle to yourself; he really resembled a big baby. âItâs fine though, I text them all the time. My dadâs always sending me pictures of our new dog or them having dinner together. Itâs not like I canât call them when I want to. Iâm just grateful.â
You hum in acknowledgment. âYeah, I get it. Itâs nice having some of my friends from high school go here too, otherwise, I think Iâd be way too homesick for my liking.â
âAre you far from home then?â
âIâm only a couple hours away, but Iâm kind of sappy when it comes to things like that. Like, I find a lot of sentimental meaning in different things, and my hometown obviously holds a lot of that for me, growing up there and all.âÂ
âItâs great you have people here you know though, seriously. When I first got here, I knew no one. I only met Leehan by chance at some club event I went to.â Taesan lets out a small laugh at the memory. âHe was a lot different back then, Iâd say. He pisses me off sometimes, but heâs a good friend most of the time. Dudeâs a lot more normal when itâs just us at the house together.âÂ
You think back to your few interactions shared with his roommate. How different could he have been if thatâs the way he acts now? Itâs hard to imagine Leehan anything else than your typical college fuckboy, but you initially saw the boy sitting next to you the same way, so you donât write it off as impossible.
âI donât know why Iâm talking about him. Heâs been annoying me lately,â The grip he has on your hand tightens slightly, but quickly returns to his previous gentle hold. âWho are your friends from home? Sungho and Riwoo?â
âHuh? No, I only met them last year, but theyâre the best. It was some dumb assigned group project thing, but we get along really well. Iâm usually hanging out with my friends Jaehyun and Woonhak, though.â Saying their names aloud reminds you of how they pleaded with you to drop Han Taesan just days before thisâ yet here you were, your hand in his as you talked about your lives in the middle of the local convenience store.Â
âAh, Woonhak? Heâs younger than us, right?â You nod, completely forgetting that Woonhak was the reason you found out that there was another girl Taesan was currently entertaining. âHeâs funny, Iâve hung out with him a few times here and there. He keeps asking me to show him what songs Iâve been writing recently.âÂ
This makes you think they were closer than they really were, but you knew it was just Woonhakâs usual (endearingly) nosy self at work. âWow, Woonhak gets to hear them but I canât?â You pull your hand away from him to grab at your chest, pretending that the realization broke your heart.Â
âCome on baby, donât be like that.â Taesan takes your hand back into his, letting them rest where your knees meet. âI can show you sometime, just not now though. Iâve been working on something special recently, and itâs not perfect yet.âÂ
âDo you call everyone that?â His eyes meet yours, tilting his head to the side slightly.Â
Upon understanding what youâre trying to get at, he waves his free hand in front of you defensively. âAh, itâs not like that. Just force of habit, I guess?â
âOkay, so by force of habit, you mean yes. I got it.â Taesan opens his mouth to defend himself again, but you cut him off. âDonât freak out, I donât really care. Weâre friends, right?â You laugh to yourself at the irony of your own statement. Yeah, friends who kiss and call each other pet names. So stupid.Â
The chime above the door jingles as a group of very obviously inebriated college students come in, loudly seeking out food to satisfy their drunk cravings. âItâs getting late, can I walk you home properly now?âÂ
Quickly cleaning up after yourselves, you both make your way out of the convenience store before you run into more groups of people coming back from the parties that just ended. Taesan grabs your hand as you start walking, interlocking your fingers in his. You were surprised, but definitely not complaining. The way his large hand felt in comparison to yours was addicting; youâd never let go if you could. Feeling your phone buzz in your pocket, you use your free hand to see whoâs texting you.Â
2 new messages from âbabygirl minnieâ!
Minnie: babe r u coming home tonight or do i need to pick u up from somewhere đ¤
Minnie: iâm going to sleep in like 20 mins lmk ASAP or ill kill u đ
to: âbabygirl minnieâ!
You: yes mother iâm omw back now đ u dont need to stay up someoneâs walking back with me
You watch the screen as she hearts your message almost immediately, and you slip your phone back into your pocket. âWhoâs that?â Taesan asks, who was peering over his shoulder while you replied.
âItâs my roommate. Sheâs worried Iâm not going to get back safe.âÂ
âI would be too if I had a beautiful girl like you as my roommate walking all by herself at this time.â His hand squeezes yours gently as you walk, the night sky littered with stars. The route you were taking home wasnât your usual route. In fact, it was the longest path you could take without straying too far off campus. Was it so wrong to want to hold hands with Han Taesan as long as you possibly could?
âI wish I got to see you like this more often, Dongmin.âÂ
âWell, youâre seeing me now. Thatâs not enough for you, angel?â His steps slow down, making you stop as well.Â
âThatâs not what I meant. It was nice to talk to you normally for once.â
âAh, so my girl wants to talk to me more. Iâm just a call away, you know.â
You scoff at his words. âWe both know thatâs not true.â If you even tried calling, would he bother to answer? For all you know, heâd just go back to leaving you with nothing but radio silence for days on end.
ââŚI donât know what youâre trying to say.â
âWhat I want to know is why you treat me so nicely and then disappear for a week?â It might be the effects of your high coming to an end, but you suddenly feel all the frustration youâd previously felt when it came to Taesan coming out of nowhere. âFuck, I hate to ruin the nice moment we just had but itâs hard not to say something when you make me feel like an idiot every time.â
In front of you, Taesan stares back with a blank expression. Nothing. Itâs as if he doesnât even know what heâs been doing to you. Seeing his face just angers you further. âHell, I donât even know why itâs so hard for me to not come running back to you the second you call. I look ridiculous going back to you even when my best friends told me not to.â
âY/N, calm down. Youâre thinking too deeply about things right now. Maybe itâs the weed.â Taesan tries to put his hand on your arm, but you pull away immediately. You felt like he wasnât hearing anything you were saying.Â
âAm I just someone you hit up when youâre lonely? Just someone whoâs conveniently always going to answer? Thatâs the last person Iâd want to be to you.â
âCâmon, sweetheart. Youâre more than that to me, okay?âÂ
âI wish I could find it in me to believe you, Taesan.âÂ
âI donât like hearing you call me that.â Hearing his nickname come from your mouth felt like an arrow to the heart, for some reason. It all felt wrong. You shouldnât be calling him that intentionally; it wasnât right coming from you. Taesan didnât want you to see him the same way everyone else did, but he couldnât explain why. Â
âEven things like this, like calling you by your real name. You make it feel like you genuinely care about me, even when you have other girls wrapped around your finger the same way you have me. Itâs like you go out of your way to make me feel special only to forget about me the next day!â
âDarling, you are special to me. I donât know how else to prove it to you.â He couldnât be serious. How did he expect you to feel special when, for all you know, he could be treating his next girl the exact same way?Â
âYou confuse me, Taesan. Because just now, in that convenience store, you seemed like you were telling me things you havenât told other people, but I know that the chances of me even hearing from you tomorrow are slim.â
âYouâre acting like weâre dating or something. We were never anything like that, Y/N.â He spits back without thinking, feeling equally as frustrated now. The night air felt colder than it did before. Whether or not Han Taesan reciprocated your feelings, he was completely oblivious to his actions. Leehan was right. Taesan wasnât yours, nor were you his, but you felt like tonight told you everything you needed to know.Â
Your mouth opens in disbelief. âDonât say that shit to me,â You turn on your heel, angrily resuming your way back to your apartment. Taesan raises his arm, debating on whether or not to try and stop you from ending the conversation as is, ultimately letting it fall back to his side. You look back at him after a few steps. âIâm fine going home on my own, so donât bother following me to my place.âÂ

[Instagram] the_myungjaeee sent a post by kminji04!
the_myungjaeee: LOL look at woonhak dancing in the 3rd slide
