to some, this noise might bring them to be filled with exhaustion or sadness. the thought of having to go through the motions of their day with the bothers of getting their shoes soaked or navigating everywhere with an umbrella, could sound quite tiring—an inconvenience.
but for you, the moment you saw the weather forecast that signaled rain, you were thrilled.
why? because rainy days were now some of the most special days to you, days that brought you great amounts of joy and happiness.
when the wind blew with the scent of wet and the sky is draped with curtains of clouds, you knew the rainy season was arriving, and you went to bed that night not being able to sleep out of pure excitement.
and that was all because of your beautiful, wonderful boyfriend: eom seonghyeon.

you got ready for the day with a sense of urgency, despite your lack of sleep, as enthusiasm rose in your chest. ignoring your mother’s demanding request for you to take an umbrella, you exited your house to find seonghyeon there, waiting for you. he stood under the cover of your front porch and wore an oversized, dark blue raincoat over his school uniform.
“seonghyeon!” you called to his attention.
seonghyeon turned his head to you, a soft smile immediately brightening upon the corners of his lips after meeting your eyes. he approached you with slow steps.
“yn,” he warmly addressed you.
seonghyeon was just like you; he loved rainy days.
however, it wasn’t always like this.
he first found the cloud with rain drops on his weather app an obstacle that he would have to face all day long. he would think, ‘i have to worry about my pants sagging too low. my heel bite would be horrendous’ and ‘i have to bring an umbrella with me everywhere? really?’ and the list of irritations went on.
the only upside to these days was that his local açaí store wouldn’t be crowded. the cold weather meant a normal person would not want cold açaí, yet seonghyeon was not part of these “normal” people. the rain didn’t stop him from his açaí bowls.
but, after he met you, there was a simple shift in seonghyeon’s perspective. that shift being you.
he realized that he could use the weather as an excuse for him to hold you close under his umbrella, and eventually, leave a gentle goodbye kiss on your forehead while the heavy rain pattered against the ground and the smell of wet concrete was carried in the breeze.
there were two good parts about rainy days now, and the newly added good part—you—was enough to make rainy days no longer troublesome.
seemingly in routine, he took off his backpack and removed one of his arms out of the raincoat he wore. in response, you slid underneath the coat with no hesitation and put your arm through the sleeve. this was why he wore an oversized one.
was it practical or logical in any way for the two of you to share a singular raincoat instead of having individual ones? no. was it easier and would it do a much better job at protecting you both from the rain if you each had an umbrella for yourselves? yes, it fully was.
though, it was like those ideas—the smarter ones that happened to be more effective—were entirely out of the picture. you and seonghyeon never had even thought of those concepts. they were never taken into consideration, and maybe, they never will.
perhaps you two were too indulged in these cheesy romantic gestures. i mean, who truly cares if you are both totally risking getting a cold through the thin fabric of the raincoat if you are happy together?
you giggled, both of you wearing your backpack in the front so there was enough room under the raincoat. the large hood laid over you and seonghyeons’ heads.
your hand, warm from just being inside, had intertwined with seonghyeon’s hand, which was cold from when he was walking to your house only minutes before.
you walked to school together, bodies heating up from the warmth of each other and hearts beating almost rapidly from this silly and utterly hopeless teenage love you were both completely, with not an ounce of shame, swallowed in.
