even when he's not physically there, his heart is, infallibly. but part of his heart belongs here too. with andrés and bailey, at their house in northport. his safe spaces have relocated throughout the years. it was once in the arms of susannah fisher, nestled into her warm embrace as affirmations trickled from her lips and found a home in his heart. it was also cousins, the house at cousins, to be exact. when she died, his safe space felt fractured, a breach in entry where harm, spite, and the cruelties of the world could reach him. he hadn't known then that that breach could be remedied and reinforced, he hadn't known that he'd find safety in the arms of another. as his phone rests against his chest and he sprawls back against feathered pillows, drowsy hues flicker toward the picture frame on the nightstand — it's one of him kissing his husband on the cheek in front of the house at cousins. it's his favorite photograph of them.

beck's disputing remark generates a playful roll of his eyes, an arm ascending to prop up the back of his head. "i'm basically telling you that i love you and that i'm always gonna be here for you even when i'm not actually there, and this is your response? do you do this to belly and conrad? don't tell me you do it to... what's his name, again? oh, wyaaatt?" he laughs openly into the still air around him, her protests and huffs mostly anticipated and eagerly awaited on the other end of the line. "we're heading back down for thanksgiving, squirt. so sure, come over. are you planning on asking your parents or are you leaving that conversation to me?"

oh the betrayal she's met with, when he coos her boyfriend's name. was he her boyfriend yet? she wasn't actually sure. none of them had put a title to it, all she knew was that her heart was a storm around him. no, it was a hurricane, and when he held her she was in the eye of the hurricane, in the calm of the storm, and it was a feeling she wouldn't tire of anytime soon if ever. he gave her fireworks, and he stood and admired them with her. from listening to her parents for years - that was the goal, the ultimate goal was to find a person who gave you fireworks, and who admired the fireworks you two created together. beck is quite sure that is what wyatt is to her, and she wants to cherish it. " yes, i do that to mom and dad too. it's a part of my unending charm. "

then scoffing as she wonders if she should go into detail about wyatt over the phone or not. he didn't feel like a phone subject, but then again, it wasn't her fault that her uncle lived too far away along with her cousin, who was more like a best friend and brother than her own brothers were. not that she didn't love the two little squirts - who were taller than her now. everyone were, except laura. but she'd probably grow too. unfair. " don't bring wyatt into this! i told you his name in full confidentiality. i am simply too afraid of dad knowing on his own, the more people who know wyatt exists, the better. less chance of him mysteriously disappearing one day if god forbid, he kisses me in front of condad fisher. " then snickering to herself as she plays with her hair on the bed. " thank you for offering, that is your job. i'll pack a bag and grab my car keys. is sebas home? ooooooh, and emmy?? do i have to compete for devoted attention and affection or will you shower me with it? " a loud giggle at her own words, she even ends up making herself snort.

being in love was a new feeling to her, but it didn't feel estranged, it felt more like coming home. like coming home after a long week at briar u, taking off her shoes and dipping her feet into the beach's sand. feeling it between her toes and letting the feeling of summer and the smell of beach settle in her bones. except this was a person, it was wyatt graham, and quite frankly, beck didn't want to let go of the idea of seeing him for the entire christmas break. she just didn't want her dad to be super weird about it. ( which he had been the entire time so far, thanks dad ! )

" i have to ask you something, or well, i have to tell you something, but don't freak out, i don't trust my cpr skills enough for you to start like ... coding on me or something. " the young woman begins to approach her dad, like he was an unknown beast and not her best friend in the entire world. which he was, and he always would be.
