Fanfiction is art, and it doesnât have to hold stereotypical artistic value⌠Oh, really?
I am in fanfiction for years, I write for the most part of my life. Obviously, I know lots of people who write fanfiction - my readers, writers I admire, just some guys I crossed my path with. Among all of them, - us, - not a single person sees it as a normal practice - to post unfinished text, to post something which doesnât satisfy them fully with itâs quality; to post something written only for their own pleasure and nothing more. I myself and everyone I know spend hours writing, years practicing and learning, sharping our knowledge and skills. As for me, Iâve chosen my path in education to be good enough in something I love - fanfiction. Yes, A+ diploma in journalism, years I spend in the best universities of my country to be able to write something worth posting.
You know, I am not alone here. Everyone I know post only stories they find worthy - in quality, idea, plot, atmosphere and power of words.
Everyone around me take fanfiction seriously. Fuck, we risk as hell posting it, cuz fanfiction, the things we talk about in our stories, are mostly strictly forbidden in our countries. We donât risk posting when the text is written just for fun and holds no artistic value. Oh, we know pretty well what the goddamn artistic value is. Itâs is something worth all the risks we take.
In my, - our, - world fanfiction is a field of battle. The ones who write it are the best on every exam, theyâre the strongest students in universities, they learn, they practice, they create the art no matter what. And now you are standing here and telling me that artistic value is just a stereotype, that everyone deserves attention no matter the quality of their text, and that we forbid women to express themselvesâŚ
Fuck this. I donât really care whatâs inside your goddamn pants. All I care is fanfiction itself, especially the explicit part of it, being seen as art, not as âstupid lazy writings of a tired housewifeâ. I, and not only me alone, spend years proving and propagandizing this idea, in schools, universities, social nets, and now what?
Now youâre, and everyone like you, standing here and slowly, post after post, ruining everything weâre trying to build. Youâre not protecting womenâs rights. You are protecting the right to create shit and feel okay about the it. For me itâs an absurd hellish sin.
I donât care whatâs in your pants. I care about you being able to stop yourself posting shit. Share those pieces with your friends privately, no matter if youâre a man or a woman.
And itâs not my fault that most of people protecting their right to write shit are women. Thatâs just what I see in the web. Improve, work on your skills, then post. Donât make the whole industry look like piece of shit cuz thatâs not for what we fight.
Thanks for your goddamn attention. Go on, block me, since thatâs all you can.
