âHarvestâ, exercises in rootsystems domestication (2015)
âI approach the root system as if it were yarn. For example, the refined, white root structure of grass reminds me of silk and the powerful, yellowish strands of the daisy I compare to wool. Harvest â Exercises in root system domestication is a continuation of my earlier work on plant roots. This photo series is actually a study of work, a research for the work that I will realize in the coming year. Together with botanist scientists from the Radboud University Nijmegen, I will develop a carpet and textile of roots.â
Japanese artist Nana Akua photographed her grandmotherâs embroidery - a folk artform known as Temari, meaning âhand ballâ and given as special gifts
Nothing is invented, for itâs written in nature first.
Antonio Gaudi
Spanish Catalan architect Antoni GaudĂ disliked drawings and prefered to explore some of his designs â such as the unfinished Church of Colònia GĂźell and the Sagrada FamĂlia â using scale models made of chains or weighted strings. It was long known that an optimal arch follows an inverted catenary curve, i.e., an upside-down hanging chain. GaudĂâs upside-down physical models took him years to build but gave him more flexibility to explore organic designs, since every adjustment would immediately trigger the âphysical recomputationâ of optimal arches. He would turn the model upright by the way of a mirror placed underneath or by taking photographs.

Beware the stories you read or tell: subtly, at night, beneath the waters of consciousness, they are altering your world.
