â â- how long have those been there?â Eyebrows furrow a moment, and she nearly moves just to try and touch them before she decides against it, settling with her hands in her lap. Right. Well. That made things much less complicated. Jesus, those were better constructed than half of the wards at the mill house â although the mill house had dozens of other security systems in place. âYâknow, if I didnât think Iâd wear out my welcome Iâd just sleep here all the time.â Itâs meant as a joke. True, or not. She smirks slightly regardless, pinching the bridge of her nose and falling back into his bed with a huff. âYour bedâs better than mine too.â
âAlways.â Maybe he kind of, sort of, changed the nature of the wood on a more molecular level so that the wards were literally part of the wood, as though they had always been there. âOf course my bedâs better than yours, Kitten, I paid for it.â Well, not really. Heâd managed to get the owner of a high-end mattress store to admit that he wanted to take his wife and have sex with her on every mattress before selling them to unsuspecting customers. And then heâd gotten a free mattress. âAre you asking for a room?â He tried not to pause so long, but Lucifer was trying to figure out the logistics. It could work, ostensibly, though he wasnât sure how many other bed partners heâd be having--not like they were much more than friends with benefits at this point, as far as sex went, at least--and if there was a room that could be repurposed....there might have been. âbecause Iâll have to think about it.â but The Devil smiled at her in a way that showed he was actually considering it.
whcwashe:
âIâm just â Iâm pretty sure that thing that killed me came in under my door, so ââ Maybe. Honestly, she didnât remember much. But that seemed right. âAnd Iâm sure yours is secure, but âŚ.â She was nervous. In general.
âI can save you the trouble.â With a sort of Jedi-like motion, he waved his hand in front of the door, and wards appeared. Not carved, but actually within the wood. There was a dull glow from inside the layers of wood as they all hid there, silent, protecting from whatever Liv could think about and more, as Lucifer had installed them himself, just on the off-chance someone decided to crash his pad. It wasnât for him, no, mostly for whatever humans had ended up in his bed. He didnât need some string of killings starting at Lux.Â
âCome on. Sit down. Iâll gt you a drink while I refuse to tell you anything.â
Lucifer eyed her. âI donât need anyone to get me a drink, I own this bloody bar, darling~.â a bit of a smirk was thrown her way, âand if youâre not going to tell me anything, why should I bother to waste my time sitting with you in silence when I could be out on the floor dancing and enjoying myself, hm?â
âThey donât want to believe in anything they didnât see on Mister Science when they were kids.â
"Iâve no idea what Mister Science is, but I can relate unto the very depths of my being. Dâyou know this one young woman still thinks Iâm a method actor?â

âNot like those Dungeons and Dragons games. The real thing.â
Lucifer put his chin on his hand, leaning in, âReally? Iâve only ever seen creatures like that as manifestations of peopleâs eternal guilt. I assumed they had to be real somewhere, but, well, Iâve never gotten to travel like I wanted.â
âYou didnât look down my blouse even once, did you?â
âWhat on earth are you talking about? Of course I did. Itâs not my fault you didnât notice~.â
Dresden Files Sentence Starters P. 1
These are from the first few chapters of Storm Front, the first book in the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher. Might do more, might not, but there are so many lines that are pretty golden.
âYouâre kidding, right?â âIâve sort of got an appointment.â âYour appointment can wait.â âHave you had lunch yet?â âJust because youâre paranoid doesnât mean that there isnât an invisible demon about to eat your face.â âDonât you have any other jackets?â âThe love suite.â âWhat do you think, Mister Man?â âWere you saving the panties to take home yourself, or did you just overlook them?â âNot bad, Sherlock. But thatâs just foreplay.â âAre we dealing with magic here, or arenât we?â âEither that or it was really incredible sex.â âThey donât want to believe in anything they didnât see on Mister Science when they were kids.â âCould you imagine a world where all the radio stations played ABBA?â âYou donât get in the car, it isnât going to be good for your legs.â âI would like to discuss business with you.â âYou should really wear your seat belt. Statistics say youâre fifty or sixty percent safer.â âHow much would it cost to retain your services?â âI am quite eager to establish a positive working relationship here. If itâs the money, I can offer you more.â âI think youâll be happier if you come down with the flu for a few days.â âIâm not afraid of big men in big cars.â âThis is the third day.â âShe pronounced it like carrot. Amateurs.â âNot like those Dungeons and Dragons games. The real thing.â âIâm not cheap. It might be less costly for you to hire someone else.â âIâm not worried about the money.â âThey say the stuff gives you the third sight.â âCome on. Sit down. Iâll gt you a drink while I refuse to tell you anything.â âJust a hint. A word of comment. Something shared between two people who are very attracted to one another.â âYou didnât look down my blouse even once, did you?â âI am pure of heart and mind. I cannot be corrupted.â âHow about if I ask some questions, and you just answer them with a yes or a no?â âI am a poor liar.â âWould you mind having dinner with me Saturday night?â âJackets and ties required. Can you manage?â âYou ugly, sneaky, hamhanded, big-nosed, flat-footed mortal worm!â âDo you remember our deal from last time, or do we need to go over it again?â âRelease me!â âRelease me now, or you will feel the awful, terrible, irresistible might of the faery magic!â âI will rot your teeth from your head! Take your eyes from their sockets! Fill your mouth with dung and your ears with worms!â âTime, time. Is that all you mortals can ever think about?â âThis is good stuff.â âI really could do the thing with the dung, you know.â âI have deigned to grant you a single request of some small nature, for the generous gift of your cuisine.â âIt is my nature to be both benevolent and wise.â âI want to hear you promise.â âFine, fine, fine! I promise, I promise, I promise!â âHah! I love it! Weâre watching you.â
âHow mad would you get if I carved something into your door?â
"I donât really see why youâd need to, Kitten. But--if itâll make you feel better, go right ahead.â

â â We canât just â we canât just go to an adult store, people would raise eyebrows.â Or something. That seemed like a decent enough excuse, anyway. Regardless, if he really wanted to drag her to one, she wouldnât put her foot down, but sheâd be crimson the entire trip. Smiling when he hands her a chocolate, she laughed, and quickly popped it into her mouth. âIâm not worried about being judged for buying it, I just â I dunno. Feels better to buy it for other people, I guess.â And then reap the benefits. It hardly matters, in the long run. The thought fades quickly though, as soon as he mentions leaving the crowd â thank god, it was never really her crowd anyway. Even if sheâs not sure what heâs implying. âAbsolutely. Yeah, please.â
Lucifer looked at her quizzically, âAnd why not? Itâs just a shop that happens to be full of pornography, dildos and leather items. The entire point of sex shops is discretion, no one would so much as bat an eyelash, let alone raise eyebrows.â He might drag her to one, he hadnât quite decided yet. It would be an experience either way, really, and he wasnât about to force her into it. âWell, donât sound too excited,â he said with a chuckle, holding a hand out to her. As The Devil led her upstairs, he waved his hand and the lighting changed subtly in his condo, mood lighting, and soft, sultry jazz coming from the hidden speakers. His three piece suit was impeccable, but he opened a button as he gestured to the bed, where a gorgeous, burgundy silk teddy was lain out for her.  By the bed, there was also some chocolate covered strawberries, a small mini-fridge that housed champagne and whipped cream, as well as a box that may or may not have held some fun things within it. Lucifer hadnât decided if he was going to open the box with her or save it for a later date. âAnother thing adult stores carry are gorgeous garments such as that. I think youâd look quite fetching in it, why donât you take it into the bathroom and try it on?â

whcwashe:
âLu, what could I possibly need to go into an adult store for â donât answer that.â She blushes, as she asks, nose wrinkling as her glance moves towards her feet. There was a reason sheâd never been into one, she could barely handle the subject as it was. So she drops it quickly, smiling gently as he continued to talk. âThat a threat or a promise?â She winks at him, settling herself as he chews. Special or not â it was only candy. And while sheâs certain itâs probably not the kind of thing heâs USED to â she hadnât even considered NOT bringing him something. Heâd done enough for her to warrant getting chocolate, at least. âAh, yeah â yeah. The sales are better, but it feels kind of sad, buying chocolate in bulk for yourself cus no one else would, yâknow? This way I can buy it for other people, and just âŚ. keep the extrasâŚ.â
He didnât listen to her, âFor the experience, of course...and perhaps for a few items to make your time with me a bit more exciting. And she was blushing, that was precious. It almost made him feel a little bit dirty, having this...whatever he had with someone as innocent as Liv was. Lucifer laughed, âI suppose a little of both. Mostly the latter.â It was candy, it wasnât super fancy, but it was soft and creamy, and The Devil was enjoying his sweets. He finished one and unwrapped another, handing it to her, âWho says no one else would buy you anything? Thatâs their assumptions. Perhaps you just enjoy candy, thereâs nothing wrong with that.â Also, there may just have been something upstairs for her, but heâd get to that in a moment. âCare to leave this crowd behind for something a little more special?â
whcwashe:
âNever been into an adult store.â Lips press into a line for a moment, if only because sheâs not sure how to respond, really. He was right, but it was hardly her wheel house â she was better with vague sentimentality. Hence the candy. âMm, one upping youâs been my goal this entire time.â She winks. It hadnât been what sheâd intended, though. âI just like giving out candy, thatâs all. Valentineâs day is a good excuse.â It was her own tradition. She was always single, she doubted that would chance any time soon. Might as well take advantage of the chocolate sales. âGives me a good excuse to stock up on chocolate, yâknow?â
That both surprised him and didnât, honestly. âWell, I suppose weâll have to change that sometime, then, wonât we?â The Devil smirked at her, popping a bit of the chocolate into his mouth--it was quite good. âYouâre one of a handful of people who have been able to do so, consider yourself special. If you donât, I might have to show you how special you are~.â Of course, Lucifer didnât need a reason, and he was already plotting on how to do just that. âAnd I like getting candy,â after all, he didnât really have to worry about his figure or getting fat. Those sort of things didnât affect him. Swallowing, he chuckled a bit. âThe day afterâs better for that, isnât it? Everythingâs on special.â
@aygerinos
âI wasnât sure where you stand on Valentineâs Day ââ itâs a sentimental holiday, honestly, and itâs not like she expected him to form an opinion. Nor did she expect that it was the kind of thing heâd celebrate. Sheâd bought him candy, though, nevertheless. Everyone got candy. â â the hearts arenât that good, the chocolateâs pretty great though.â She shrugs, tossing him a bag with a smirk. She just liked the excuse to dish out sugar. It was fun, a few times a year.
Her voice hadnât startled him per se, but Lucifer had been rapt deep in thought. After all, his Father--and he and his Motherâs little trip back to Hell--had given him a lot to think about. But it was easy enough to put on a face for her, âLoveâs all a bit complicated, but all the adult stores have sales and the single people are ripe for the picking, arenât they, darling?â The Devil realised heâd overshared as he saw the small package of a few sorts of candy. âKitten...â he smiled at her, catching the bag, giving it a look-through. âAnd here I am with empty hands for you. One upping the Devilâs hard to do, you know.~â

viduligr:
Loki touched the other manâs cheek, briefly, but without any disgust or fear of what he just witnessed. âYour scars, Lucifer, make you no less handsome than you are now. They speak of terrible things youâve endured and which I dare not begin imagine. They are also a testimony of survival. Of strength. Of victory over whatever misfortune and suffering youâve experienced. That in itself is quite beautiful. Stars would not shine if they werenât burning.â the Trickster said. âThat sounds splendidlyâŚâ he chuckled. It seemed someone finally wanted to stand up to Odin for him. That was a novelty and something he wholeheartedly appreciated. âMy, my⌠So much flattery and to think I am the one known as the Silvertongue⌠To answer your question, it takes a lot of magic to travel between the realms for they are divided very far apart. Only Odin and I mastered this skill. Everyone else use the Bifrost, a magical bridge. While Bifrost saves a lot of effort, itâs not quite efficient and lands you only in fixed places. Travelling via your own magic leads you to the exact spot you desire. My seidr⌠or magic, if thatâs what you prefer to call it, has many more uses than that. I can change my form as I please. I can cast illusions and summon ice and fire for they both answer my command best. It is very useful skill, even though Asgardians consider it ergi. Unmanly. While none of them would ever dare to call Odin that, they have no qualms saying that about me, poor fools acting as though I care. They limited views are so very laughable and outdated. They embarass themselves, but thatâs their choice. And you? What powers do you wield?â
The sudden tenderness is unexpected, but he does not balk from it. The Devil merely stands there and listens. The fires of Hell had borne him more than Mum and Dad ever had, they had made him what he was today, and they had irrevocably changed him. Though his beauty was part magic, part past visage, to hear that from someone who seemed to be the redheaded step-child (perhaps literally) of his family, it created a particular tightness in his chest, a warm pool deep in his gut. âYes, well. I suppose there was some irony in my given name, then, Morningstar.â A bit of an uncomfortable chuckle as he found his footing again, instead of being a bumbling buffoon. Thankful for the change in topic, Lucifer wonders if he truly could stand up to a man like Odin Allfather. He was real, and was the Norse equivalent of dear old Dad, perhaps heâd be too strong, but heâd give it the old college try, that much was certain. Those who were deserving of punishment would not make him back down from an opportunity without putting his best effort in.â Lucifer smiled, âWell, flattery is but one of my many charms, perhaps thatâs another reason they may have conflated the two of us...mythologically speaking, of course. Itâs not flattery if itâs true, my good man~.âÂ
This Bifrost sounded incredibly handy, he wondered if a creature such as himself could use it, surely God had figured a way to use it, thatâs how he must have disappeared. âFire and ice, you say? Well, the more you speak, the more we seem to have in common. I suppose my favourite is the ability to know what anyone truly desires. Some eggs are harder to crack, but all I need do is ask, and theyâll simply offer it up. Ruling Hell for so long gave me quite the mastery over flames, they bend to my will, do just about whatever I want them to.â He took another sip of his drink before continuing. âI can change my form, but I donât do it often, as youâve seen. Of course Iâve got the strength and agility of a mountain of humans, Iâm invulnerable,â save for celestial weapons, but he wasnât about to give that information up so easily, âAnd Iâm quite the expert at recognising deception.â Perhaps that last bit was a bit pointed, though he was still smiling, really rather taken with the other god.Â
whcwashe:
âI do trust you, I just âŚ.â She pauses, sucking a breath in as her eyes screw tightly shut. Of course she trusted him. And of course she knew she mattered, in some way or another, although sheâd never have gone so far to call herself important. That felt like asking for too much, somehow. Like it was the kind of thing she shouldnât aspire to be. She was just a blip on the radar compared to him, she couldnât hope to even really chart. But that didnât mean she wanted to be anywhere other than with him. âI didnât realize â important is a word we use pretty sparinglyâŚ.â
Still, the feeling was complicated, and she was TIRED. Sheâd tried to tell him that before, despite the fact that she knew heâd never really understand. Her head finds his chest before she can continue, arms slumping some under his grip. And sheâs very quickly turned to something akin to mush, a wreck of emotions that sheâs barely managing to contain. âEverything changed too fast.â What she wanted to do, desperately at this point, was SLEEP. She couldnât though, not yet. Strong as the temptation might have been. Sheâd tried. And tried, and tried, and tried. It never felt safe anymore. Sheâd gone from her bed, to the couch, and the bathtub and back, none of it felt secure anymore. Not the way it used to. So she slumped into his chest instead, breath hitching as she tried to contain herself. She didnât understand. How any of this could have happened. How she could have been put in this position to begin with, or why heâd have picked HER of all people to spend time with. Although that, out of everything, was the thing she was most glad for. âI dunno what to do anymore, I canât sleep at home âŚ.â
Lucifer raises an eyebrow, but doesnât question her, you just what? but he knew nothing good would come of it. The argument seemed to be fizzling out, and she was tired, he could feel it on her now. Even if he didnât understand the concept as much, he understand how that felt as he held her. âYouâre right, it is. I donât call in favours and personally send angels to Hell to get unimportant people out.â His tone is pointed, as though to say which means youâre important, you silly woman. Accept it. The Devil may not have had many important people, but he was happy to add Liv to the list. âYouâre the first person whoâs told me that Iâm all they have,â he says in a fit of unexpected honesty. Lying was not his thing, but he didnât intend to say that out loud.Â
Pulling her into a hug, something he thinks heâs gotten quite good at in the past few weeks, and it was easier with her, anyway. They were in a conundrum, and as Lucifer kissed the top of her head, he heard the words she didnât speak, the rest of her sentence. âSleep here, itâs the safest place in the city,â At least as long as his Mother didnât show up, but he had ways of keeping her out if he truly needed to. âIâve an acquaintance who deals in dreams, might be able to give you a nightâs worth of respite.â He was sure he would have to call in some favour to Dream to allow her a night without nightmares, a night without remembering what Hell must have been like for her, the poor, innocent dove whoâs world crashed in around them and left them stuck, buried under a set of circumstances sheâd never wanted. Perhaps that was why she was so important. âI know I can get you to sleep, but the realm of Dreams is not mine to control,â he curled her into him as he walked her towards his bed, sat her down as he joined her, tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear. âSleep here, Kitten, no one can bother you here.âÂ
