Thank you, dear. That sweater is one of my favorites, even if it is a bit plain. How’ve you been, Ayako?

Ayako had never been truly alone, not before the last of her family fell in the war with the Quincy. And not even after, really. Even as a minor noble house, the Chikamai had caretakers, so when Ayako was the last of them, she had caretakers. In the years between her family’s demise and her enrollment in the academy, what used to be her family’s servants BECAME her family. 

But in the Academy, she was more alone than she’d ever been. She was viewed as a walking tragedy, or worse, the sole heiress to the Chikamai family name. Both of these distanced her from the other students. Those that didn’t avoid her due to class difference avoided her out of respect for her loss. In the academy, she only had her zanpakuto, and she ended up becoming Ayako’s best friend.
