i think it is fascinating how they intertwined the hypnotic (vaguely cycle-like) elements of vampire life with the themes of surviving abuse and ending toxic cycles. the vampires sing about being a "prisoner with no way out" and becoming "who you were meant to me". because i mean, Star has an entire song abt how she's fighting to break free and she's tired of fighting a senseless war. i think that song could be talking about her own abusive relationship with david. it ALSO ties in so well with the show's message of queer acceptance. this brings me to my next point abt Sam's queerness being his superpower 😭 that shit made me tear up so damn fast.

sometimes i struggle to explain my gender to other people. like yes, i use he/him pronouns and i'm nonbinary. like, i describe my gender as "vaguely boy" because if i'm going to be perceived in a gendered way, it will be boy.

i have what my boyfriend refers to as "gender autism," because my autism doesn't let/ want me to understand socialized gender rules and expectations. it's not something i've ever really understood. as a kid, i used to wear flowy dresses because i liked how they felt. i had no sense of gender and i liked how they felt. the shame and dysphoria didn't really appear until i was being forced to do something in a gendered way that i Did Not Like.

i also have an incessant need to know Why. there's no real explanation for *why* we treat people differently based on their gender (or more accurately, their sex assigned at birth).

not to get too woke and transgender. i'm also a gender studies minor and it's a big interest of mine (they call me the woker)
