(needed to get back to posting so I'm working my way back in slowly, 200 words or less at a time)

While I haven’t posted any fanfiction recently- I never seem to have any time- I’m currently doing a creative writing module and am having to deal with something that I considered my nemesis for quite a few years (although according to my Mum I used to love writing it when I was little)….

POETRY

So in a bid to exorcise some poetic demons I’ve started a wordpress blog and am posting online. If anyone gets a chance, feel free to take a look and let me know what you think. The profession poem was in response to a prompt from my creative writing tutor last week- I struggled so badly trying to come up with an idea, and when I finally thought of one I tested out the idea on the wonderful @pirategirlofcollingwood, who thought it would make a good poem. Hopefully it did. The other 2 poems were written last night while I was supposed to be writing a poem about Spring, and both partly stem from personal experience.

So let’s start with the massive apology:

Hey everyone! It literally feels like forever since I last posted, or even came on here properly. I want to apologise for that, life has well and truly taken over (I also want to send out a massive apology specifically to @phrynesboudoir, which I’ll do properly by email). I’ve really missed you all- case in point, I’ve got a little teary, in a good way, recently when I’ve seen @michele02132‘s and @pirategirlofcollingwood‘s hands arrissat tags) I intend to keep in touch more from now on. Life is busy and complicated and incredibly fun, apart from the second year housing nightmare I seem to have had this past week. But one of the incredibly fun things comes from the fact that I’ve taken a leaf out of Phryne’s book in various ways and become a lot more forward about what I want, rather than holding back out of fear about how I’ll come across- something which is paying off so far.

1. WHAT WAS THE LAST FULL MOVIE YOU SAW? Inception and American Hustle- both in the same day with 2 friends as I hadn’t seen either

2. WHAT WAS THE LAST SONG YOU LISTENED TO? Some random Turkish song that the guy who was here tonight started playing on my laptop, and then singing along to while he ate his way through a load of clementines. Last songs I actually put on to listen to= Do it again- Pia Mia, and Birdy’s cover of Firestone

3. WHAT WAS THE LAST SHOW YOU WATCHED? MFMM Series 3. I took the DVDs back with me to Spain to watch with my family.

4. WHAT WAS THE LAST BOOK YOU READ? Roxana by Daniel Defoe

5. WHAT WAS THE LAST THING YOU ATE? Toast and peppers. Impromptu and strange dinner because thanks to someone giving me very late notice I had 25 minutes to eat, tidy my room, put my laundry away and get ready.

6. IF YOU COULD BE ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD RIGHT NOW WHERE WOULD YOU BE? I can’t think of a location right now, but I’m going to say that I’d love to get together, wherever in the world, with some of the people from this fandom.

7. IF YOU COULD PICK A DECADE TO TRAVEL BACK IN TIME, WHAT WOULD IT BE? The 1920s, favourite era. 

8. IF YOU WON THE LOTTO & MILLIONS IN CASH, WHAT WOULD BE THE FIRST THING YOU’D DO? Buy a house to live because I’m currently having major second year housing issues. Give money to my family. Go on holiday, preferably to Australia and the US. 

9. WHICH FICTIONAL CHARACTER WOULD YOU LIKE TO HANG OUT WITH FOR A DAY? Going to be incredibly boring and just say Phryne Fisher- there are others but my brain doesn’t seem to be functioning at the moment

10. WHAT WAS THE LAST FANDOM YOU JOINED? MFMM

So that’s one term at Uni over and done with and I’m now back in Spain for Christmas.......still can’t believe how quickly it went. It was funny, hard work, crazy, messy at times, but the difference between the person I was when I started and who I am now is startling, in a good way. I’m proud of that change. 

And I’m also beyond grateful for the people I have by my side now. In these 3 months I’ve managed to gain 3 friends in particular who are wonderful, witty, caring and brilliant (one of whom will see this post- I’m blaming being overly emotional on the fact that it’s 2 AM and I’m tired!) At the start of the term, as basically all the MFMM fandom knows, I went through a rough patch, and at that time I was completely alone. But I came out the other side of it stronger, thanks to all of you on Tumblr. When something happened a week ago that left me as much a mess to start with as I was at the start of term, I actually had people physically around me this time and once again I’m stronger because of it.  In the same way that I couldn’t imagine being without this fandom, I wouldn’t want to be without them.

There is nothing I would not do for those who are really my friends. I have no notion of loving people by halves, it is not my nature.

A guy I met last night told me in a message that I’m “truly embracing the go hard or go home attitude”, and right now, I’d say he’s right. I remember a conversation with @brightshinyhonest before I left Spain to come to Uni, and I remember talking about taking advantage of every opportunity, experimenting, going crazy and trying new things, and embracing all the amazing experiences I’ve got to come. And so far, in the 10 weeks I’ve been here, I’d say I’m doing well with fulfilling that. Because right now I’m keeping that wonderful Nathan quote that’s still up on my wall in my mind whatever I do (”If it scares the shit out of me, I should do that.” is literally my motto right now), I’m embracing the wonderful empowering attitudes of both Phryne Fisher and our fandom in general. So I’m not doing this to just be a typical fresher who is going and out getting drunk each night (I’m not a drunken mess when I go out, I can actually promise that). I’m doing this because after 2 years doing practically nothing due to knee operations and being in a place where there was nothing to do, I’m finally taking advantage of life. And loving it!

So just to keep you all up to date, a few things I’ve done/ am doing:

Went to a pub quiz last night where I knew nobody else, and had a great time, then ended up going out with the people I met

Dressed up as a 1920s vampire for Halloween, complete with flapper dress and headdress and long black gloves and I pinned my hair into a bob. Some of you who have me on facebook will have probably seen the photos- I will post on my private Instagram too for those I only have on there. Absolutely loved wearing it all- felt very like Phryne

Have started going to salsa classes and go to a salsa night most Tuesdays where I’ve been doing lots of dancing (with various different strangers who I’m certain Phryne Fisher would approve of). I also attempted to teach a guy in the Royal Marines how to salsa a few weeks ago at one of the salsa nights- ended with him lifting me in the air because “then we don’t have to worry about the steps”

Have started latin and ballroom lessons too. And they played Caro Emerald’s “That Man” as one of the dances for the Quickstep when we were trying it- all I could think of was our fandom at that moment!

My friend left half a bottle of wine here the other night after pre drinking- looked at the label when I put in on my shelf ready for her to get when she comes over again, and it’s Australian wine- yet another thing that made me think of the show and all of you.

Funny fact: I met a guy called Jack Robinson. Although he’s nothing like our Jack, whatsoever.

I’ve told quite a few people about the show/ the fandom/my sketches and my erotic fanfics and everyone is actually interested by it all, rather than thinking it’s strange. A really good friend of mine who I met up with today for a catch up actually asked me how my Welsh online friend was (@pirategirlofcollingwood, I’ve finally sent you a text, after god knows how long! Never did managed to transfer my messages from my old phone like I wanted to, but oh well)

I’m going to a masquerade ball in a couple of weeks, really excited about this, still need to buy a dress/mask/shoes

My flat is being turned into a party venue on Monday (along with next door and downstairs) to host a massive pre drinks for a club night- and I’m then getting up at 6 AM the next morning to clean because we have a kitchen inspection at 10 that day, but it should be an amazing and probably crazy experience so it’s worth it

And if I’m talking about amazing and crazy experiences, tomorrow night I’m going to a club night where you end up wearing weird hats and covered in glitter...I’ll be sure to tell you guys all about it, no idea what to expect!

There’s probably so much more I could say but I need to get some sleep. As always, I’m still reading the fanfics (and writing my fic for your ficathon @phrynesboudoir) and reading as many posts on here as I can and looking at Instagram. On that note- congratulations @desiskipper on the Nathan site! What you and @izzyandlouie created when you originally set it up was amazing to start with, and now it’s Nathan’s actual site- absolutely wonderful achievement! I may have spent a while staring at those new photos- I really need to find the time to start sketching again, give me an excuse to stare at that chair one for hours on end.......all in the name of art, of course ;)

Days when I don’t have a lecture until 12.30 or 3.30 I’ll either get up early and go food shopping or do laundry or work or I’ll sleep in. Very rarely get to sleep before 1 or 2 in the morning. Weekends I’m out at clubs basically every Friday and Saturday so don’t get to sleep until 4 AM most times, and then I’ll wake up whenever.  Lemonade or Iced tea: Lemonade, but only when I’m out and I need a mixer with alcohol and there’s no cranberry (or when I’m drinking Malibu). During the day I drink water Coke or Pepsi: Neither. I really am a water person Day or Night: More of a night person  
Text or Call: Text, definitely texting Make up or Natural: Natural. The only time I put on make up now is when I go out at night, and then my entire make up routine is over and done with in less than 5 mins. Met a celebrity: No, but there are lots I’d like to Smile or Eyes: Both, to be honest

Light or Dark Hair: I’ve always said dark and relatively short hair, and I’d still say dark- though if you look at my choices of guys since I started Uni that probably doesn’t make much sense

Shorter or Taller: Taller (which isn’t too hard as I’m really short) Intelligence or Attraction: Both Chap-stick or Lipstick: Chapstick City or Country: A mixture of the two. I’ve never lived in a big city, but I’ve also never lived out in the countryside- it’s always been somewhere not too big but also not too quiet. Which is why I love the place I’m in now- it’s a small city, so it’s got all the shops and amenities and there’s plenty going on (though some people might beg to differ) but it’s also somewhere you can get around easily on foot
