“Katsumi!”

The scream of her mother pierced the air. Her heart was racing, her mind full of thoughts one so young shouldn’t think. Death.

It was a beautiful Autumn morning. She had woken up that day full of joy and excitement. It was her coming of age ceremony, a tradition that her fathers tribe kept healthful throughout the many years.

At her fifteenth birthday she would be given a choice. To pursue the art of war like her father, or the grace of medicine like her mother to help benefit her tribe.

But the day that was supposed to be filled with joy was instead filled with war.
