Let’s take a look at the number of women that appeared in the Hottest 100 of the last 20 years. We’ll look at in pie chart form, because people think that...

In the 2009 poll, only 6 women were in any of the bands in any capacity; the aforementioned Elizabeth Fraser with Massive Attack, Meg White of The White Stripes, Kim Deal of Pixies, Gillian Gilbert of New Order, Candida Doyle of Pulp, and Zia McCabe of The Dandy Warhols. Before looking it up, I could only think of 3 of those women off the top of my head. Listening to the Hottest 100 poll over the weekend I was really excited to hear more women than in 2009's poll, but it's still a ridiculously large difference in genders.

The “Stop Telling Women to Smile” piece remained in tact enough for me to include it in the exhibition. I thought it was important to present in the show, so that people could view these written reactions. 

They think it will shut women up, but it really just fuels everything further, I hope they know that. 

I’ve reblogged the individual posters before because I understand them as a victim of the suggestions. But I’m reblogging them now to show the attempt to keep women in their societal place in our culture.
