Charlotte stopped in her tracks, looking at Tessa next to her with a disgusted look on her face. “Gross, Tessa.” Charlotte said, the thought of an animal being in the same vicinity as them not even crossing her mind. “Did you down a can of coke before you got up, or something?” 

“What? Scared or something?” he said, only teasingly. “I didn’t know you played.”

“Of course– you didn’t let me rehearse,” she teased back. “Uh yeah, Tanner and I’s parents had us playing guitar, piano, violin– anything and everything alongside many other talents they expected us to have.”

“I can probably fetch it myself if you’d rather just enjoy yourself. I feel bad that you’ve had to come away from the festivities.”

“No, no it’s fine. I wasn’t have too much fun back there,” she admitted. “Besides, you can’t go into the forest alone and unprotected,” Tessa added teasingly.

Tanner and Max had run off somewhere during the party, leaving their guitar with her. Sitting by the fire she mindlessly began strumming it until someone came over. “Oh– no no, I wasn’t going to play anything for real.”

“Thank you,” Alex spoke without meaning as she stepped towards the panel attempting to click buttons that she thought would help open the doors; it was bad enough being stuck in an elevator like this, it was worse being stuck with someone like Tessa. After a moment, Alex stepped back, “No.” She answered bitterly, not wanting to admit that it didn’t work for her. “Does anyone know how to answer a phone call in this building?” 

The roll of her eyes came easily as she listened to Tessa talk. The fact that she was stuck in an elevator with someone like Tessa made the situation that much worse for her. “Is it just buzzing? No one is talking?” She asked with a sigh as she moved closer towards the speaker to hear better. “Maybe we need to hold it down,” Alexandria then offered, moving to press the button down. 

“Well of course, I was but I’m gonna try harder now that I know this is meant to be a ploy for you to boost your ego with a win.”

“I actually think I might have thrown the coffee at someone if they’d written Lassie,” Cassia said, wishing she could say she was joking but she was not.

“They’ll come and help, sure, but what’s stopping them from taking their time? I’ll give you a hint; it starts with your and ends in attitude.” She retorted, “Fine. Can you hear anything?” 

“They didn’t even misspell it. My name is Cassia. They just wrote a completely different name on mine,” She showed the other the cup, “It’s so stupid. I should really just say Cass. I mean how could they misspell that?”

“Obviously not but I will certainly try harder now.”

“Huh?” Cassia looked up and glanced at the cup. Then she looked around. The place was packed but there was no other person waiting for coffee aside from herself and the other woman, “Yeah, I guess it is,” She said, picking up the cup. She double checked the name on it too. She scoffed when she saw that Cassandra was scrolled across it rather than her name, “You know, I don’t think baristas are bad spellers so much as they are hard of hearing.”

Tessa was standing by the counter waiting for her order when she noticed one that had been placed there for a while. She checked the side and realized it wasn’t her coffee. “Is this yours?” she asked, turning to the nearest person who seemed distracted by something on her cellphone. 

“And yet, you’re waiting for me to do it?” She spoke with a roll of her eyes. “Yes, yes. I’m sure that applies to protecting people in a stuck elevator.” Alexandria stood back as she watched Tessa, “As a hint, you want them to help. Try being nice.” 

“Tennis sounds good. You do remember I’m hopeless at sports though, right?” Tanner asked, “Wait, did you invite me because you knew you would win?”

“Ah yes, and that moan of pleasure I heard when you took the first bite was something I imagined, right?” Camille teased.

“You’d make noises like that too if you’ve denied yourself pizza for months on end,” she replied back defensively, looking at the pizza guiltily. 

“Look, I’ll be honest, I think we have a few more problems than you being late.” Alex couldn’t help but roll her eyes at the other. Of course she would get stuck with someone like this. “Why am I the one getting us out of here? You’re perfectly capable of pressing a help button!”
