You would still hate God.
Human beings are not neutral— inclined to either love God and choose him or reject him.
Human beings’ spiritual species is sinner, and we hate God from our first breath.
To assume otherwise is an act of self-righteousness and pride.
The only reason you care about God or know the true and living God is because he already chose you first.
“What then? Are we Jews any better off? No, not at all. For we have already charged that all, both Jews and Greeks, are under sin, as it is written:
None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God. All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one.””
Romans 3:9-12 ESV
God didn’t save a people who wanted to come to Him. Jesus didn’t come to save a people because they wanted to be saved.
Jesus came to save us while we were still slaves to sin.
“For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life. More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.”
Romans 5:6-11 ESV
Which Jesus tells us in his own words.
“You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you.”
And Paul again reiterates—
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved.”
Ephesians 1:3-6 ESV
What then? What of the people God doesn’t choose? Why do they exist? What happens to them?
“And not only so, but also when Rebekah had conceived children by one man, our forefather Isaac, though they were not yet born and had done nothing either good or bad—in order that God’s purpose of election might continue, not because of works but because of him who calls— she was told, “The older will serve the younger.” As it is written, “Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated.”
What shall we say then? Is there injustice on God’s part? By no means! For he says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.” So then it depends not on human will or exertion, but on God, who has mercy.
For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, “For this very purpose I have raised you up, that I might show my power in you, and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.” So then he has mercy on whomever he wills, and he hardens whomever he wills.
You will say to me then, “Why does he still find fault? For who can resist his will?”
But who are you, O man, to answer back to God? Will what is molded say to its molder, “Why have you made me like this?” Has the potter no right over the clay, to make out of the same lump one vessel for honorable use and another for dishonorable use? What if God, desiring to show his wrath and to make known his power, has endured with much patience vessels of wrath prepared for destruction, in order to make known the riches of his glory for vessels of mercy, which he has prepared beforehand for glory— even us whom he has called, not from the Jews only but also from the Gentiles?”
Romans 9:10-24 ESV
God’s holiness is revealed in both his grace and his wrath. By his wrath we know His holiness and justice. By his grace we know His mercy.
Displaying each is His work. Choosing a people is His work.
Praise be to God— because it is not our work— it is NOT our choice— it is GOD’s choice and work in us that brings us to Himself— because of this, it cannot be changed. It cannot be taken. It cannot be moved.
“For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 8:38-39 ESV
God’s speaking is His doing, and there is nothing that can snatch us from Him.
If you love God, praise be to God and his grace and mercy on you a sinner.
If you despise God. Repent. He offers forgiveness to all those who repent and put their faith in God the Son, Jesus Christ who lived perfectly, died our death, paid our penalty, and rose again that we may rise with Him when He returns to judge the living and the dead.
