Nazuna, capsella bursa- a telling name. It not only refers to a plant that has been endemic to Japan since ancient times, which is considered a weed on the one hand, but is also cultivated for medicinal and nutritional purposes. It also points to a Haiku by Basho Matsuo. Here, a lonely hiker on a field path experiences satori when he sees a blooming nazuna. Satori, a central concept in Zen, puts the things of life in a new light, resolves contradictions and opens up new perspectives. In the anime intro, Ko Yamori meets 'his' Nazuna on his night hike. Their relationship at the beginning is reminiscent of that of master and student in the sense of Zen. Nazuna's character therefore remains enigmatic; unlike the main protagonist, we have no access to her thoughts or inner monologues. As a female vampire, however, she uses her supernatural abilities completely selfless. When they meet third parties during their nightly forays with Ko, they help their acquaintances to have the experience described above. She earns her living - even vampires need money - as an Asobi nurse, offering massages and life advice and overnight accommodation for those tormented by everyday life. This is how she gets the blood she needs. She fights the literal boredom of her immortality with excessive gaming. Love seems embarrassing to her (and thus also Ko's search for the feeling of love). According to the plot, however, love for a vampire is a prerequisite for becoming a vampire yourself. It remains a mystery how Nazuna herself became a vampire. (By the way, the soundtrack inspired by a Berlin band from the 90s is great!).
