Pulled from a deck of cards with a back that, to most people, would look like a cute design based on the Ace of Hearts, symbolizing romantic asexuality. But upon closer inspection the card back is designed like the bottle necklace he received from Dahlia, butterfly wings are also a part of the design. He holds the deck face down over his stomach, barely showing the back. The design of the Ace of Diamonds is also difficult to see. A spatter of sorts, mixed in with the color of the diamond itself.
Getting butterflies in your stomach, often associated with giddiness and love, is also associated with fight-or-flight, anxiety, or nervousness.
My headcanon is that Phoenix is Demisexual Panromantic. After the events of 3-1, he suffers from philophobia, the fear of love/falling in love. Romance is tainted for him, despite loving and wanting it. His heart is forever scarred, no matter how invisible those scars may be. It even makes him wonder, if one day he wanted to lay down with someone he finally finds attractive, can he truly trust them, body, heart and mind? Can he separate it, give his partner his body but not his heart? Could he trust someone with his heart? Can he even trust the one he loves with his body?
As a poker hobbyist, he knows well how to hide his expressions and feelings. Even when scared or nervous, he'll keep his cards close to his heart. He's intuitive, listens to his gut, so to speak. Love and fear go hand in hand. He'll flee or freeze at both. He's hard-pressed to talk about his feelings with anyone. Who knows how long it'll take for him to be ready to show his hand?
