I really hope that in s2 of Shadow Lord we get to see Maul find out about Feral in some way. I think it would just GUT him to figure out not only had the Sith (technically) killed another one of his biological brothers, but they had manipulated Savage into being the one to do it

Maul was a terrible brother to Savage letβs all just face it!!! AND YET (and this is what makes me ill and crazy) Savage loved him so much anyway. And Maul loved Savage too. Healthy love? Heck no. But it was still there.
One of Savageβs first reactions upon seeing his tormented & babbling & insane little brother was protective rageβso much so that he murdered Morley right then and there because he believed that Morley had done horrible things to Maul!! And even when Maul was incoherent and unable to understand anything around him, Savage still rescued him. He still talked to him like a person. He still wanted his brother. He still loved him yβknow.
And they never left each otherβs side until Savageβs death. They stuck together!!! BECAUSE THEY ARE BROTHERS. AND THEY CARE ABOUT EACH OTHER. They went to a diner together. Did you know that. Itβs canon. They also committed crimes at the diner. Maul treated Savage quite terribly but he still loved him and wanted him. His entire face fell when he saw what Sidious did to him. His lips quivered a bit. He immediately stopped fighting and ran to his brother and knelt beside him and held his hand. Held his hand. And he grieves him always after that.

Okay, Iβm actually curious, for those of you who are Maul fans who have watched Clone Wars, how did you feel about Maulβs death in Rebels?
I liked it, still do
I didnβt like it at all, still donβt
I neither liked nor disliked it, still feel the same
I disliked it then but like it now
I liked it then but dislike it now
I had mixed feelings about it
I love it narrative wise, I think it's a really cathartic way to end his story. However I wish Maul got to leave behind a more tangible legacy and grow as a character beyond the weapon that Palpatine fashioned him into because we really do see him try and try and try </3 That's what makes him so compelling though, the fact that he is so competent and driven (with good reason) but despite this he will always shoot himself in the foot because his trauma is at the root of all his actions. We see that when he is stripped down to his base he will choose to abandon his progress and revert back to single minded revenge (eg. His death) and it's awful to watch because even though he's objectively evil (being hot and voiced by Sam Witwer isn't a fool proof legal defence unfortunately π) you can't help but root for him and invest in his growth beyond his abuser.
It's a wonderfully written tragedy and it makes me want to explode.

Maul and Padme would have been an interesting dynamic to explore in the extended media. In the movie, there's this subtle back and forth between them, a mirroring of each other. They are both represented through primarily red and black motifs through the film, Iain McCaig calling them a sort of beauty and the beast, designing them together. Both are groomed and manipulated by Palpatine, both put in positions of power because of him and disposable when unneeded. I think about this parallel a lot
Idk what if when Maul came back he went to Padme, the only other person he knew who had been used. What if she was wary of him but ultimately heard out his case, his plea. It's not enough to save them, but it puts doubt in her mind. There is a rot in the senate and it is taking children, and using them to its own gain.

One of my favourite things about recent star wars is how they portray the empire.
Across multiple media, Obi wan, Bad Batch, Rebels, Andor especially, and recently Maul, we see how the empire only serves Palpatine. Nothing else. Nobody else. And he does not share power.
They treat the empire as an all consuming plague (as they should) . It doesn't matter who you are, Jedi, Rebels, Sith, Criminals, Common people, Even imperials themselves....EVERYONE suffers. The Empire does not care. It does not reward anything. Everyone is always afraid, always miserable, both the bullies and the victims. The Empire is truly Cancer, it just takes and takes and takes until it swells.
This also makes me genuinely love Palpatine as a villian within the narrative. He's just pure, unfiltered evil. Man is THE ultimate sith. The epitome of what it means to be a sith. Everything belongs to him, and to him only. He does not give a fuck about the rule of two, he does not care about vader, he doesn't care about the sith, he doesn't care about his officers, nobody. It's only him and HIS empire. Nobody else's. He finessed the galaxy into willingly making him a dictator by pointing out what others did wrong and making sure you're never looking at him and what he's doing.
There were many things wrong in the galaxy before his arrival but after the empire things get unmistakably worse, and I'm glad star wars is showing this considering our....real world situations.
