Maul saw the fish’s gills flex and realized it was still alive. Maul didn’t flinch. The fish’s eye shifted to look at its former home, the orb above the table, where other fish continued to swim. Maul doubted that Sidious expected him to pick up the fish and insert it back into the orb. “Go on,” Sidious said. “Dig in.” Maul obeyed. He tore into the fish, starting with the head"
Wrath of Darth Maul
Okay, I read The Wrath of Darth Maul, and it traumatized me. Then I watched Clone Wars and Rebels, and they traumatized me too.
So I drew a happy life for all these characters who were destined to be miserably killed. It's some kind of therapy for my damaged soul. Maybe it'll heal you too.
Let's imagine Maul runs away with his friends, Kilindi and Daleen, and then saves his brothers, Feral and Savage, from slavery. And then, happy kids like Team Avatar somehow defeat Sidious and Plagueis and save the galaxy :D

Sam Witwer: "When something goes wrong in our lives we often ask ourselves “Who was present?” and if there was ever a singular person that was present in whatever the event was when something changed our lives. If we can't get beyond that event, we become obsessed with it or it changed our life in a way that we can’t make sense of. We often seek out that person because that was the last time our lives made sense. The last time Darth Maul’s life made sense was on Naboo and then everything changed. And he hasn't been able to put the pieces back together again because he’s been looking in the wrong direction. We saw it over and over again in Clone Wars - they faced off multiple times. Darth Maul had several opportunities to kill him and the first time he defeated Kenobi he realized, “This doesn’t make me feel better.” It didn’t make him feel any better. “Okay, what if I torture him psychologically? What if I kill the woman this loves?” It doesn’t make him feel better either. He knows 100% that it’s that guy, there’s something about that guy that will heal me. And that’s where Darth Maul is correct. The one part that he has right is that Obi-Wan Kenobi can heal him, just not quite in the way that you first would expect."

I’ll take whatever Matthew Stover was having when he wrote the Revenge of the Sith novelization-

The other thing that makes obimaul so compelling is just like... how do you forgive someone who ruined your life? CAN you forgive someone who ruined your life. How does finding out the ways in which this person suffered and the circumstances that led them to where they are now change your feelings? Does it?
Eventually you find common ground in your suffering. How do you look at someone who has caused you immeasurable pain and suffering and realize the hate isn't there anymore? Maybe, even, that it's been replaced with something like affection? For Maul in particular, who has clung to his hatred for the sake of his very life and has had little cause to know affection at ALL, what is he like when that fire has gone out?
For Obi-Wan, who never really needed Maul in the same way, but nonetheless has been forced to view Maul as nothing but a monster realizing that he is more wounded than he himself even recognizes. Maul has always just been A Monster to Obi-Wan, but the fact of the matter is that he was once just a wounded boy as well. That if things had been a little different, he could have been Maul? How does he grapple with the potential self loathing that could arise with empathizing with Maul and feeling like he has betrayed the people he loved by forming an attachment to the person that hurt them?
Delicious drama. 10/10 no notes.
