For years now, because of all the shit JK Rowling has done/said, I have been incapable of enjoying Harry Potter things, despite how much I’ve loved them as a kid. I have not been able to separate the art from the artist, no matter how much I’ve wanted to. As a member of the LGBT community, she’s upset me too much in the recent years.

My best friend, who’s also been upset by the things she’s done, has been able to still enjoy Harry Potter for what it is. For what it was, to him, throughout his life. We’ve had several conversations where he’s told me “I’m so sorry you can’t still enjoy that world”, and where I’ve told him “I’m happy that you can.”

He is trans.

It’s 2 am and I’m crying in my bed right now, with my best friend sleeping in the room next to me, most likely unaware of what just happened, and it honestly fucking breaks my heart that JK Rowling just openly dismissed who and what he is. It breaks my fucking heart to think about him waking up tomorrow morning and catching up with the internet and reading her disgusting tweet on his own.

Yes. We already knew she was bad. We already knew she was full of shit. None of this is really a surprise. I know that. But tonight, just all over again, I’m overwhelmed with the same feeling of betrayal.
