mohammed's wife farah has been shot.
two days ago there was a bombing near al shifa hospital which resulted in @moxayesh 's wife farah getting hurt as well. as of now the doctors have not removed the bullet from her chest.
she is five months pregnant. i don't think i need to emphasize how terrifying this must be for her and for mohammed. they're newly weds who are expecting their first child; they should be celebrating, preparing for this wonderful new addition to their little family, and instead this is what has happened.
mohammed has done so much work as part of @gaza-evacuation-funds so that other families like his can raise the funds needed for their survival. he has not asked for anything in return but now he needs that help and support as well. just transportation to the hospital costs him and farah $70; public transport is not an option due to how much walking she would have to do while pregnant and injured.

I really do not know how to explain this. There is a Rorschach test where you look at a manicured lawn and a nuclear family happily grilling some hotdogs on there and you either smile or you start screaming like you just witnessed a murder and the two camps just aren't gonna get along
Comforts and the concept of those comforts as property is a wild type of anesthesia. And itās insidious, you see your friends buying homes and getting it figured out and all of a sudden you feel the desire for that sort of assurance and comfort slip in. You stop screaming at the sight because you see the pillowy exterior of it all and forget what sits behind it all.
But you gotta keep screaming. You canāt forget that this is expected of you, and the alternative is the extinction of what you call self either through death or imprisonment.
If this page suddenly goes silent one day, know that my brother Samer didnāt make it. I will never forget those who saw him suffering from severe bombing injuries, lacking his vital medications, yet chose silence and kept scrolling.

Dear friends of Palestine, friends of Gaza and friends of my family in Gaza!
FINALLY!!! We are at 99% of our goal in our campaign to evacuate the living hell of Gaza and rebuild our life in Ireland!
While people post Eid outfits, food, and family photos, my family in Gaza is trying to survive another day of bombs, hunger, fear, and unbearable heat.
There is NO safe place left in Gaza.
The bombardment continues every single day. The explosions never stop. And now summer has turned the tents they live in into literal ovens.
Imagine trying to sleep inside plastic and fabric under a burning sky while drones and airstrikes continue around you.
This is NOT a temporary hardship. My family has lived through this nightmare for more than two years.
Two years of displacement. Two years of terror. Two years of watching their lives collapse piece by piece.
I am in Ireland, studying and trying to build a future, while every day I fear getting the phone call that my family did not survive the night.
We have already come such a long way thanks to the incredible support from friends of Gaza and Palestine around the world. Truly, we would never have made it this far without you.

i think before you marry someone, you should sit down and go through the AITA subreddit with them and see what their take on those situations is
does your potential future spouse think it's reasonable for their mother to be involved in your family planning? or to make comments about your body? do you? how does your future spouse feel about girls and/or boys nights? situations involving exes? cancelling trips last minute? under what circumstances do they think it's reasonable to host somebody in your home and for how long? etc.
and the goal of doing this isn't to agree one-hundred percent on every single thing. it's to understand how you both view obligations, family, friends, finances, conflict, etc. and to make sure that even if you don't have the exact same perspective, you can understand where the other person is coming from without feeling like they're a crazy person. you have to be able to come to reasonable compromises and sometimes that involves one person fully caving, and sometimes it involves the other person fully caving, and sometimes it's both of you giving a little, but you need to understand what things you both are and aren't willing to compromise on because those types of situations are going to come up in a marriage.
also, since this has turned into actual advice: you should talk through why you think what you think, even when you agree, because you might not be agreeing for the same reasons.
I rarely bring this up because it feels like fairly silly and low-stakes compared to all the other effects of american imperialism, but one of the funniest things when Americans deny that living in the imperial core and the center of global cultural hegemony confers them any sort of privilege over people from the imperial periphery is that like. In order for this conversation where you tell me you have no privilege over me to even be able to take place one of us had to learn the other's language, and it wasn't you.
I think the fact that by default the onus of learning the other's language to enable communication is always put on the other side is a pretty significant privilege on the cultural front.
