I’m not a photographer which made living in California very easy because you can put a frame around anything there and someone will want to look at it. I’ll stop now. That’s enough of this part of the past.

Thanksgiving 2015, maybe, just another moment in a gorgeous place, maybe watching elephant seals nap, probably around gorgeous kind friends, probably feeling like a zit incarnate. The nostalgia posts will end, soon, I promise.
Birthday in the yard, 2015. Some cats smell like piss. Some cats smell like fish. Birthday smelled like if an angel invented fabric softener and used it to tumble dry a dream. I love you Birthday.
Bear with me through this powerful and unexpected nostalgia for an internally ugly time in my life that was, at times, externally beautiful. A walk in a place where every turn reveals a totally different landscape.
Ohhhh boy. This is a project I did with the poet Andrea Wolf. I wonder if anyone has the completed version. It was the final project assignment for a literature class. We conceived of the story together and I executed it. Would have been in 2015 I think.

I used to drive here from Oakland and walk around anxiously. It was such a privilege to have access to this kind of nature, I wish I’d been in a better mindset to appreciate it. I remember this day very well. That was the night E and I snuck into the Keith Haring exhibit.
Missing living in the Bay Area, sometimes, still. Miss being able to drive to this.

Many years ago Lindsay and I collaborated on these letterpressed coasters, which we sold along with homebrew at a screening of Born in Flames. This was all to benefit DC Abortion Fund, but it’s on my mind today for Planned Parenthood’s Pink Out event.
Reproductive autonomy is central to freedom, for all people. This absolutely includes abortion access - on demand, and without apology. This also includes the ability to raise children safe from the violence of poverty and from the violence of policing. The resources, services, and support for that freedom actually ought to be completely publicly funded, since they are central to survival, and to a free society. It’s not though, and that’s why we need Planned Parenthood.
Attacks on access to reproductive health are a form of violence and of social control. They come, not coincidentally, alongside growing wealth inequity, with the regulation of certain bodies serving as a diversion and safety valve to relieve social pressure that would otherwise be directed at the ruling class.
I stand with PP and in solidarity with all people struggling for autonomy and self-determination over their bodies, families, and lives.
(Also, Lindsay and I are always seeking angel investors for our future brewery/print shop/abortion resort!)
