Astraea was the virgin Goddess of innocence and purity, her name meant "star-maiden". Since the Golden Age of Man she had been on the earth alongside humans, ruling them while teaching nobility, law, equality, loyalty and civility which was represented by her balance scales of justice. With each age of man passing from Golden to Iron, humanity began ignoring Astraea to fight and kill amongst themselves, refusing to worship the Gods any longer.

When the Iron Age dawned, bringing along misery and wickedness the Gods left back to the heavens one by one. Astraea stayed behind until she became so saddened and disgusted by humanity that she too, being the last to leave, abandoned the earth and went to the skies where she transformed into the constellation Virgo with her balance scales transforming into constellation Libra. It is said that when Astraea returns to Earth one day, she will once again bring the utopia that the Golden Age is known for and end all human suffering.
