I choose to see their relationship as enemies fighting a war, not as a weak woman being abused by a man. After all, you wouldn’t say a soldier is being “abused” by another soldier during battle. They are just fighting for their respective sides. 

Rey is certainly not a push-over, or even a “victim” in the same way as we see female victims of abuse in a romantic relationship with their abuser. She willingly tries to get a droid back to the resistance, even though the FO attempts to kill her for it on Jakku. She isn’t an innocent bystander, but a warrior standing up for what’s right. She fires blaster shots, Ren knocks her out with the Force hand wave. Ren invades her mind, she deflects/reverses it without a single second of formal training. He tries to kill her and her friends, she returns the favor with a saber cut to the face and excellent marksmanship in the Falcon throughout the movies. Plus, her friends blow up SKB and kill probably thousands, tens of thousands, I don’t know, but a lot of nazis are dead. After the de-throning of Snoke, she telekinetically grabs the saber, he “grabs” it back. It’s not an attack, but a show of how they are equally powerful in the Force when the saber explodes. 

She’s a soldier fighting and winning battles, not a victim of abuse by a boyfriend. Should the kiss have happened? Maybe not, yet Disney has had some more troubling things out there for years (true love’s kiss, Stockholm Syndrome). But Rey isn’t a princess stuck in a tower, nor is she a passed out, half-dead woman. She nearly killed Ren, healing him only out of guilt when Leia passed away in the same moment. She didn’t even have to really try to “redeem” him, so the burden on her character is very little. They didn’t speak again until Exegol. By that point, Ben made the decision to turn away from the Dark Side for himself, when on the death star ruins. 

Their “relationship” is full of issues (violence), like one would expect from any superhero and supervillain pitted against each other. But to act like Rey is in any way some poor, helpless victim in an abusive relationship is, at the very least, a discredit to the character and, at worst, downright sexist.

Think: Mr. and Mrs. Smith, all of those Marvel (comics, not movies) pairings with villains and heroes, The Bad Batch…hell, even that new Dracula on Netflix that ended with badass extraordinaire Agatha and psychosomatic Dracula boning in the afterlife. But please, don’t think of this as Beauty and the Beast, or the mess of real abusive shit that was 50 Shades. 

Is Ren still a (reformed?) nazi? You bet, that’s the closest real world equivalent of the FO. Is he a murderer of potentially thousands? Absolutely. Does he physically injure Rey? Yep, and she dishes it right back. Is he an “abuser”? Those Storm Troopers he takes his anger out on might say yes, but for Rey’s case, I have to go with no.

I don’t like Scarlet Witch. I don’t like that during Civil War she (accidentally) killed those innocents in that building and then ran from her responsiblites and joined Cap. Yes, many would have died on the ground, and the bomb wasn’t her fault. But that isn’t the point here. She caused death and instead of facing those consequences she chose to become a criminal. Tererffic role model!

I don’t like Bucky. Sure, every probemamtic and awful thing he did was because he was mind controlled, whatever. I just don’t like his overrated self and his face annoys me. Also giving him the title of “White Wolf” was so undeserved.

I don’t like Captain America. Jesus Christ he pisses me off so much. He’s a Gary Stu - MCU has turned him into a Gary Stu. He’s way too overpowered, no one really is a threat to him… I mean fuck he held of Thanos which shouldn’t happen, he’s always correct even when he’s blatantly wrong.. Civil War - the Avengers go around wrecking shit in the process, destroying lives they’re meant to protect, and just go home.. but that of course doesn’t matter, because Cap has to be correct. A nitpick: but his now Disney looking hair in Infity War now stays in place during battle… I just hate this Gary Stu.

I don’t like Black Widow. I enjoy characters with character development. So obviously I cannot enjoy Black Widow. She’s the same character she has always been; she’s been the same since Iron Man 2.. just with a sprinkle of backstory and an out of nowhere romance between her and the Hulk.. she’s also becoming overpowered. She’s a skilled human. HUMAN. That’s it. And she can take on and beat Proxima Midnight? Yeah no…

Sharon Carter is way too overhated. This character could have been awesome, but she was unnecessarily overhated for no other reason than because Cap instigated a kiss between them. I HATE that this low form of pettiness has made its way into the MCU fandom; these fangirls have moved here. Hopefully after Infinity War these fangirls will pack up and move out. We all know Cap is gunna die :D

I don’t like the Stucky Fandom. I don’t give a shit about the ship. I don’t hate it, it’s just whatever for me. But the Fandom makes me wanna take a power sander to my eye socket. So annoying and all the unnecessary hate towards Sharon.

I don’t like this This Bucky x Shuri shit. It’s nasty. Nasty, nasty, nasty. The MCU doesn’t deserve this nonsense. Iron Man didn’t build this up for uglies to be this nasty!!!! :(

That’s not to say I dislike the franchise. It’s just these four I don’t like and think are the downside of the MCU. The fact that it’s all Cap’s Secret Avengers team is a coincidence ahaha.

Bucky was mind controlled by literal Nazis. They warped his mind so much to the point if he heard certain words he would have lost control and killed people. Kylo Ren? While yes, Snoke spoke to him while in womb, he still chose it all. He chose to kill his father. Chose to abuse and hurt Rey; to abuse, hurt, and kill others. Chose to try to kill Luke. Chose to not try and help his mother in space. Even after Snoke died he still chose evil over good. See the key difference here, kids?

I’m gay and I’m in compete support of T’s and anti terf. Am not an actual gay person? Do I have to be bigoted and ignorant in order to be an actual gay person? I’m very good friends with a bi female and she’s in full support of T’s and like me hates terfs, is she not an actual bi person?

But is Dany does something similar along the lines she’s entitled, arrogant, or just like her father… if it were Jon on dragon back and doing what Dany is doing everyone would be cheering (my included) but of course there’s people hating Dany for it…
